e8400, Win7 64, 2 8800GTS 512 in SLI, ForceWare v267.24, 8GB Ram

Experiencing all the problems being discussed in this thread. I've tried most of the suggestions with no improvement. This is completely ruining the game for me. Fortunately, after the decades of awesome BioWare has bestowed on this world, I have a healthy cache of goodwill to draw from. And I appreciate Rob's updates very much. I just can't wait to dig into DA2. But it seems I'll have to wait a little longer.

The weather looks awful nice, maybe I'll go outside instead ;)

Same problem here. Freezes mostly during cutscenes. I will try to verify that the GPU load goes down to zero during these freezes or that alt-tabbing temporarily fixes the problem.

DA2:
DX11
Graphics settings @ high
2xAA
16xAF
SSAO ON
HD Texture Pack ON

System specs:
Core i7 920 @ 4.0
ATI Radeon HD 5870 (stock clocks)
6 gb RAM
Windows 7 64 bit

Its good to know that Bioware is aware of this and working on it.

My drivers were woefully out of date and I started playing the game using Nvidia's 186.81 drivers. The first time I played after upgrading to the beta drivers the freezing started.

Also switching from Directx 9 to 11 didn't change the amount of freezes, only seemed to increase the length of additional freezes.

Specs:
Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz
GeForce 9700GTS
4gb of RAM
Windows 7 64 bit

Settings:
Medium Graphics settings
Everything else off except full-screen
1440x900

I've been using the beta 267.26 drivers with the INF edited to allow it to install with my card. It's made a HUGE difference! I haven't experienced any slowdown whatsoever and my GPU usages never drop to 0% like they were before. I'm now running the game at 1080p with High quality settings, High quality textures, 4xAA, 16xAF, VSync On and am consistently getting around 60fps. GPU usages now seem to be peaking at around 75-80%.

System Specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 OCed to 3.6Ghz
Nvidia GTX 260 x2 (SLI)
4GB Memory
Windows 7 64-bit

Has anyone gotten the inf mod to work with a 9600m GT? Or any 9m Nvidia card for that matter? It gets a bit more tricky with the mobile cards from what I can tell.

Still no issues since I switched to Dx9. On another board someone suggested success (for Nvidia cards) by going into the Nvidia control panel and changing the power settings for DA2 to "Prefer Maximum Performance."

On a Q6600@2.4GHz, 6GB DDR3 RAM and a GTX275:

- Beta patch 1.01
- nVidia drivers 267.26 (.inf modded for my card)
- 1440x900 (native)
- DX11 renderer
- High settings (DX10)
- VSync on
- AA 4x
- AF 16x
- HiRes textures on
- Trilinear filtering & triple buffering on (DragonAge.ini config file)

No freezes today so far. Average fps: 40-50, and it looks nice at the same time. It still needs some tweaks, anyways (from both nVidia and BioWare), as I think that it could run smoothly with those settings. But well, it's playable now.

Installed the 11.4 preview drivers from ATI and they seem to have helped a little bit. The game no longer freezes during cutscenes but can freeze on reading a random book or I had it happen once during combat. While the game is frozen the GPU load does drop to zero

It should be possible, you just need to find the right entries. It worked on my GTX 260M.

My first play session had total of 5 of those moments, where it slowed down to nothing.

My second play session the game just locks up & stop responding now, this amazing.....

This happens to me mostly while engaging in a Dialogue Scene with someone. The first part hangs or slows down immensely and then it snaps back into to time as the next part of the dialogue occurs. There is even sound overlap, which makes what people are saying nigh incomprehensible.

Similar issue here. About ten minutes into the game it froze during combat. And it freeezes ever since, but particularly during dialogue scenes. Most of the time the game will continue after 30 seconds with a sound overlap.

I installed new video- and audio-drivers today, so everything is updated. I'm using a laptop (Toshiba Satego) with an Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT and Windows Vista (32 bit). Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a beta-driver for my system and I'm a little bit worried to modify the other beta-driver as was suggested.

Edit: In the game I selected "DirectX 11", details "high", with verticalsync on. Everything else is not activated. The high resolution texture pack is not installed.

Problem solved by installing an older driver. First I had Nvidia driver 266.58 installed and the game froze. Then I looked once more for a beta-driver  which supports my graphic card  and actually found one this time. But it didn't work and couldn't stop the game from freezing. Finally I went back to the old 260.99 driver and that did the trick for me. I've played about six hours now and the game is running smoothly so far.

Same thing as has been described here:  freezing, usually during dialog but sometimes combat or wandering around.  Appears to be random.  Alt-tabbing sometimes works, others times I need to hit the "windows" key to get back to desktop - this resets the current frozen state.

This only appears to happen when using DX11 option, never happens when using DX9.  Other graphics options do not seem to matter (including turning hi-res textures on/off).

Core2 Duo, 4GB, 9800GTX+, Windows 7

What I've tried:
Update to NVidia beta drivers
Update Realtek Audio drivers
Update chipset drivers

It should also be noted that so far, other than this problem, the game has been stable, with only a single crash in 25+ hours of  gameplay.

Game freezes every 5 minutes or so, sound/music continues to play.  This didn't start happening until about 10 hours in.  It freezes anywhere, combat, dialogue, cutscenes, etc.  The thing that makes it so annoying is that I can't tab out, I have to restart the computer every time.

Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
Intel core i5-2500k @ 3.30 ghz
GTX 570 using NVIDIA beta driver
4gb ram
DirectX 11
All graphics settings on max with pc texture patch @ 1920 x 1080

I have also been having this problem, I however had recently upgraded my graphics drivers and thought that this might actually be the problem, so I rolled them back and *bam* problem solved. I hope this problem is fixed soon, I couldn't even get past the first conversation with Flemmeth it was that bad! Luckily rolling back my graphics drivers worked, hope this helps some people.

Still have this problem. Video freeze while audio continues and then video unfreezes in 10-30 seconds. Latest (non-beta) nVidia driver installed. Game video resolution set at Low.

Intel Core i7 CPU Q720 @ 1.6 GHz
4 GB RAM
GeForce 260M video card

Thank you so very, very much.  I tried this and it worked perfectly.  No more stutter or anything.

Rolled back my drivers to 260.99 and sprayed some compressed air into the vents around my graphics card. No problems now. :]

It works!  After all this time wrangling the thing, I installed the 260.99 driver, and now the game runs SO SMOOTH!  It's like butter!

Like sexy, sexy butter!

Errr... smooth, anyway.  :innocent:

Just killed the final boss in the deeproads on hard (took 20 mins of co-ordinating and planning but was well worth the effort)...then I was rewarded with a 2 seconds cutscene afterwards. Really killed the suspense for me.

my PC spec:
Core 2 Quad Q9550
4GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Radeon 6970 2GB
Motherboard: Maximus II Formula

Like an above poster, I noticed that this may not have happened with my machine when using "older" non-beta (266.58) drivers. However, I had not played the game for very long before switching to the beta (267.24) drivers based on recommendations from this forum, so it's possible it just hadn't had the opportunity to happen.

I do know that I now am having the sporadic ~30 second slowdowns mentioned in the thread. From what I can tell, they usually (but not always) seem to spring up with some type of "change" in the game/environment (e.g., starting a conversation, clicking on a codex item on the map). The pauses will even temporarily stop my ability to alt-tab/ctrl-alt-del out of the game.

Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit

OK! I finally got her fixed for now!... Im not very knowledgable with computers so it took me a while to figure out how to switch drivers lol. While using Directx 11 all my fiddeling and updating seemed to if anything at all make things worse... I wanted to try using Directx 9 but I couldn't figure out how to install an older version of Directx.. Little did I know you can switch from 11 to 9 right in the game configuration.. awsome!! Have not had a problem since............ yet.
Thx to everyone with there helpful info on this forum !!
