I am on my fourth run and just needed to vent.

PLEASE, no more time wasting hacking in ME3. It is irritating after the first playthrough. It is also nonsense, why force players to waste time with boring and repetitive mini games just to get a few credits over and over again????

I can't stand this mini game either. I can understand Bioware wanting to add somthing to ME2's gameplay to break up all the hiding behind cover and shooting but the hacking mini games occur far to often for my liking and it isn't even fun, it's a chore that I feel obligated to complete. The gamer should always be having fun when they are playing a video game ( re. Bungie's "30 seconds of fun" moto is a good thing for Bioware to keep in mind hwn designing ME3 ) and the Hacking mini game sucks.

Actually, Im ashamed to admit this but, I actually enjoy the hacking minigames. ME1s "hacking" was flat out horrible so to me it was an "upgrade" in ME2. Now you want to talk about something that used to annoy me about me2? Mining. Doesnt so much now that it's been "upgraded" but before that patch....Holy maker lol.

Then what do you suggest?

A Hacking/Bypass skill to open locked doors and vaults?

or

A different kind of mini-game?

I like hacking in ME 2 but HATE bypassing. Its boring. That minigame from ME 1 was fun, I would like to see it return instead of bypassing.

The hacking system in ME was quick and had pretty much the same difficulty level. You have too remember though you were using it on a very regular basis. For ME2 it was less often so I am inclined to think that Bioware wanted to make it a little more inventive and time consuming. However because of said difficulty it has just become a exercise in time consumption. You always win unless your not paying any attention so its just a chore.

I have to say maybe Bioware should take note of Bioshock 2 system where you can hack in real time. That actually worked really effectively and was a lot more enjoyable.

I agree. I have the PC versions so the minigame I got in ME1 was that 360 degrees frogger game. Hacking is fine because it had simple keyboard controls but I didn't like the bypass game because I had to move my mouse around. I'm lazy like that.

My issue with hacking is where and when you do it:

"OhTali, I am so sorry about your father... Oooh some dead quarians wall safe!"

Yeah, just seeing that safe before the cutscene put it in the front of my mind a little. Or the fact when your on Omega being disgusted about all the looting. Then you go loot some families life savings after you tell them to "go to safety"

<_<

Of course thats not directly related to hacking, just poor placement of loot and the concepts behind it.

I thought the ME2 hacking minigame was fine, better than ME1's pressing buttons in order (on Xbox). Bypass was pretty weak as minigames go, but still a step up compared to the first game (again, on Xbox). Best hacking minigame I've seen recently is in BioShock 2 (one of the few things that game did better than it's predecessor).

Or being mad at looters after looting some couples wall safe right under their noses.

Edit: Aaand Captain Crash beat me to it.
I just save edit a crapload of resources and credits at the start of a new playthrough. I did more than enough of scanning, hacking and bypassing on my first few playthroughs.

Well it just goes to show its in everyone's minds that one about how ridiculous it is! Just reinforces the point!  :)

But back to the subject I dont think the mini-game should be removed. Even if tedious I still feel its important and part of Mass Effect. Just like acquiring minerals is. But just like Resource Collection the system needs to be tweaked some more. Make it a skill game and not a time consumption project!

No! Please keep hacking & bypassing! I like it. Adds more variety to the game. The only thing I would like to see changed for ME3: Return to the ME1 scheme were hacking/bypassing is only possible if your character is a tech specialist or you have a tech specialist on the team. It's stupid that everyone can hack/bypass in ME2.

I don't want them to remove the hacking/bypass minigame... However it would be great if you could get a companion to do it for you whilst you cover them if you don't want to do it yourself. Some companions could also be better at it and do it quicker, and be able to hack/bypass tougher systems.

They should make every lock like planet scanning! Oh wait...

Seriously though, it becomes old rather quickly, so how about something like in the original splinter cell? The minigame was based on rotating the right stick to the correct position which was indicated by a feedback from the rumble pack.

Another possibility could be the Fallout 3 minigame.

That one is dangerously close to making you think so it may not be what
Bioware has in mind with the new audiance they try to appeal to...

Oh and yes, I am aware that Mass Effect has no mechanical locks, but that doesn't mean the principle cannot be translated to the ME universe.

Another good idea might be to have less but therfor more meaningful hackable things. The big problem is repetition here. Hacking a vault just to get some more money once is ok. Doing it 10 times on each mission is tedious (why do you do that only during missions anyway? Is there nothing to hack in elsewhere?). Those could easily be kicked if the costs of items in the stores were adjusted. Some of the items in the stores could therefor be found through hacking stuff. Less need to spend money + You find les smoney = balced again, right?

My gripe with the ME2 minigames was being static. Same thing from the beginning to the end.

If they were dependent on character skill like ME1 they would make more sense.

I didn't mind the hacking minigame. It was simple and quick, but still required you to pay attention. Same with bypass.

I find them to be an improvement over ME1's system. At least this time we have two types, instead of just one.

And my older brother is colour blind as well. Can you imagine how annoying this makes ME2's hacking mini game.

i think itd be great if shepard had some kind of techy type tool, lets call it an "omnitool", that he could use to bypass opening up lockers and crates. maybe make it upgradable where you can choose to do the minigames or invest in not doing to boring repetetive minigames.

i did like the variety tho, but come on, whats the point in those types of things in a game anyways?

TIM can blow his wad on remaking a human being, but he cant get me a frickin crow bar to open crates?
