I would actually request the Bioware expand on the original proposal of the OP. They should work diligently to take out anything that takes us away from the action, the story, the quest, etc. Minigames like hacking, bypassing, planet scanning for resources, etc. are all obvious examples of things that take us away from the real action.

Sorry but i have to stongly disagree .. mini-games have a bog purpose .. they break the monotony of fighting non-stop ... imagine a piano note in which you just keep bounding the same paino key over and over .. it gets boring very quickly no matter how good the player or the piano is .. that's the same case .. but it also has rules/standards that need to be met in order for it to work .. in detail below.
-If the Mini-games occur too often (and don't have much variety) they will be a source of boredom themselves.
-If the game is oversaturated with too many varied mini-games it could feel like a disjointed mess as the main gameplay will feel like just another mini-game among the lot.
-Mini-games need to be engaging and rewarding, in also in some cases tense (as it is a self-contained experiance losing in it won't affect the rest of the game that much .. so making it challenging/hard is ok).
If those point are addressed the mini-games will enhance the experaince greatly .. the best examples of mini0games in an RPG IMO was FF7 ... they were just brilliant .. first introduced as parts of the story events (High-way motorbike battle chase / Submarine battle / Skiing / .. etc etc) .. then later on you can replay them in some arcade area you can visit whenever you want .. everyone of those games met the criteria above and enhanced the expriance a lot ... and i think Bioware has a lot of work to do in ME3 to make the mini-games actually fun and pace them correctly.
