My question is simple, is blood magic handled in the same way as in DA:O social wise.

In DA:O no one not even your closest friends even blinked when you used it.

Does it have any effect on compaions or such in DA2 ?

I haven't noticed any difference in their behavior. It's funny to see Hawke use Blood Magic and in next conversation go all out and bash some Blood Mage, that he is source of pure evil and chaos. With companions agreeing in the background, of course.
