I apologize if there's any missing information from the guidelines, I'm doing this from a different machine than I have the game installed on.

Windows 7, Intel i7 @ 3.6Ghz, 6GH RAM
Soundblaster Audigy (drivers within 6 months)
ATI Radeon HD 5980 (drivers within 6 months)
DirectX 11
Physical disc, v1.00, GameStop, 1 day w/o HiRes Textures, 1 day w/ HiRes Textures

Issue: Over the span of about 12 playing hours I had 4 application crashes. There were no error messages. I run dual monitors. Suddenly and at seemingly random times, my primary monitor would go all black, both monitors would turn all white for less than a second, then both monitors would flicker all black again as the application exited to the desktop. The first three times this happened, I didn't notice any other problems other than what seemed a graceful exit to the desktop. This happened twice without the HiRes textures, once with them. Earlier tonight, this same thing happened except that when both monitors turned black and I expected the application to exit my entire computer froze. When I tried to restart it, it failed to POST. Upon further investigation, I found that only after I removed the video card (and left everything else attached) that my computer would POST and run normally (with an older video card in my closet).

I'm not blaming DA2 or BioWare for my video card breaking, I'm only curious as to what may have caused this as I've had the card for over a year and never had any problems with other games. I don't want to buy another card to run into a similar issue. Can this be attributed to just a fluke accident, overheating when Crysis had no affect, or a possibility I'm currently unaware of?

Did you check the PCI-e slot you are using? It could have gone bad.

I've had video cards just go kaput on me before. It sucks, but it does happen. Is the fan on the 5980 still spinning when it has power? If it isn't, it could have went out a while before, and the heat this game may have caused it could have shorted it out permanently.

Try a different power cable from your PSU. Sometimes those go bad, most PSU's will have 2 or 3 GPU lines on them.

Other than that, sounds like you have a bad video card. If you recently bought it, check for warranty status. Some have 2 year warranties, most have 1 year. Go through the manufacturer. Without your receipt, they can sometimes tell when it was purchased with the serial number. If they require a receipt, sometimes you can get them to give you another receipt from the store you bought it from. Worth a shot.

The PCI-e slot is fine. I put an older video card in the same slot just to see if it worked. The fan on the 5980 still works. I tried using two different GPU power cables. What I don't understand is why the motherboard's POST fails. I've never known a POST to fail because of a video card. The timing of the crash and the video card failure just seem too coincidental.

That happened to me, when the video card went out, the computer failed to recognize any hardware, it wouldn't POST unless I removed the zapped card.
