So when you help Emric find his murderer is there absolutely NO WAY to save your mother? In my first playthrough I lost both sibs, and mummeh to be honest it made me sad. I felt like the worst older brother in the universe. Is there anyway her death can be prevented?

Curse it all I spared tons of blood mages in Act 1...maybe it was Decimus who needed to be spared...I must save this poor woman i'm determined! After my first epic failure playthrough I must return myself to glory.

Saving Hawke's Mother is not a feature in Dragon Age 2.

I've already lost Carver and Bethany on my first play through...now I'm feeling like crap knowing I'm gonna lose the mom too. -.-
At first, I thought the Cousland storyline of the first was the hardest knowing you lost your family in that manner but you didn't get to have that time to grow attached to them. Losing Bethany was seriously depressing ><

Cmon. It's not a proper fantasy epic without two dead parents.

Yea' I can hear Gaider now. "You have a family...for a while." Its like the just couldn't resist killing them before it was all said and done.

Also Carver can survive if you leave him at home. Even though he ran off and joined the templars he sided with me and survived the final battle. I assume something similar can happen with Bethany.

While I'd *like* to save them... I'd prefer them dead rather than betray me, as Carver did, end game

It was the same for me. It left a strong impression, so I consider it to be a good part of the story and development for Hawke's character.
