I just found a glitch regarding the Maker's Sigh potion.
  • Use the potion
  • Immediately save without using any Ability Points
  • Reload the save file
  • The game will have issued you a default skill (Gave me Giant's Reach for my warrior and Fireball on my mage)
  • You will notice you will have 5 Ability Points still at Lvl 5 but essentially you got a free skill

At step 5 repeat steps 1-4 and you can get an infinite number of Ability Points, assuming you have enough money to buy potions.

(This was tested and found on the PS3, unsure if it works on Xbox 360 or PC)

Just tried this and ended up having 16 ability points and one specialization point at level 13. I still have Duelist and Parry plus 4 other skills including the Perforate upgrade without having the Backstab ability.

I did use a respec potion earlier but I did not purposefully use the glitch then. Whatever's going on it seems that the Maker's Sigh potions are completely messed up.

edit: Forgot to mention that my character is a Rogue. Posted Image

I ran across this glitch earlier today when trying to respec my character. Except, I didn't do any of the saving and all of that. Instead, I just respec'd and went on about my business, questing and whatnot, and then noticed I had a skill in a tree I invested absolutely nothing into -- Cone of Cold. Annoyed, I respec'd again (Having no idea that's what caused the problem) and it all worked out great. The extra skill was gone and I was happy. THEN, I decided I didn't like the primal tree and respec'd for elemental, again. Couple hours later, I suddenly have four spells from the primal tree.

Ordinarily, something like this would seem 'awesome'. To me, it screws with my game. I wanted a legitimate, first play through with no XP glitch and no unexpected skill point glitch. Now, because the DLC was likely rushed and not tested very well, I'm 25 hours in with a 'cheat' file and the only solution now is to start over.

Dragon Age 2, you have officially become a big disappointment. Just sayin'. It'd be sweet if it was fixed, but it no longer matters -- even if they fix it, I'll have to start over anyway. Ugh.

I agree completely. While it might be cool for some people who would like to try out builds, I however wanted a normal play-through just like you. I was so angry when I respec'd my Warrior and it gave me the entire Sword and Shield branch. No matter if I restarted my PS3, went to a previous save, etc it would still do that anytime I wanted to respec and issuing me an extra 10 ability points.

I ended up deleting that character...

It comes as no surprise to me that the PS3 version seems to have far more bugs than the others. I figured that would happen but since I ordered my Signature Edition on PS3, I stuck with it.

Bioware/EA, I also have yet to receive my weapons from the Signature Edition. It did issue me The Exiled Prince aka Sebastian but not the Digital Armory weapons. Been waiting on EA customer support since launch to respond to my intial customer support ticket or just add them to my account/issue me a replacement code....

I just noticed that each time I use the Maker's Sigh potion, something happens and I keep getting an insane amount of skill points and attribute points for my level. I am only lvl 13 and I have 40 atribute points and 29 skill points now.
I just had 25 last hour and 20 last night I think? I did not lvl at all, just used those respec potions.

Also, today when I logged in, at lvl 13 I have BOTH specialization points there now.

Not sure what to do now or if there is a way to fix this?

i have the same problem.. i'm over +7-8 skills on me right now.
thing is ... actually there is a "fix" for this:
- do not give rest of the points in your trees (i.e... if you're level 10 just use 10 points..although if you bought some books/potions to increase skill points.. you can give additional point..)
- if it already gave you some skills, do not use the additional skills, unless you actually want to use that skill in that tree.. in that case tho. .spend points for the prerequisites..and count that "given" skill as a spent point. if you're not planning to use those skills, so do not use those skills. (e.g. you see cone of cold.. and planning to use it ?.. then give one point to winter's grasp.. and count it as 2, because you're already planning to use cone of cold. if you're not planning on using cone of cold, never ever ever ever cast cone of cold. remove it from any tactics you see. )
- be honest to yourself.
- and always remember.. one doesn't need some rules to have fun.

Using the MS removes your default ability... I'd love it if they fixed that in a future patch and allow us to have a bonus ability point, instead of penalizing us.

I does remove your starting abilility but it also issues you an Ability Point for that ability. Nothing to fix there.

It doesn't work like that for me. I can't explain why but I had 24 abilities at level 24, used the potion, then had 23...

Keep waiting on EA - all they did was give me the run around and adivce like reformate your entire PS3 system to factory conditions... why? so I can play one game?  No thank you.  That's not even a work-around, and it is not a promise it will work either.  Sorry EA/Bioware, own up to what mistake you've done and make it up to your community if you want to make a Dragon Age 3 for any system other than the PC.

I returned my copy to Amazon, where I bought it, and they took it back even opened as they expressed I am far from the first with this problem.  I got a full refund in under 5 days, paid shipping, and given a box.  Good thing ONE company is willing to step up and take responsibility for AN ENTIRELY SEPERATE COMPANY's scam.

Both console versions have the same core bugs (Isabela/Sebastien, Maker's Sigh, quest flags, Goad/Armistice do nothing, etc).  I have no idea where you get this idea that the PS3 is a "buggier" system from, unless you just hate the PS3, in which case, sell it?  Lots of people are still playing PS3s they bought at launch, whereas having to replace a 360 happens to some people every few months.  This isn't an appropriate board for "console war" speech.

Then don't bring it here. (You already started that in the ME2 PS3 section) If you would check my profile, I play most of my games on my PS3 and I own copies of all Bioware games on ALL platforms excluding MAC....

I suppose I'm a Xbox 360 fanboy, huh?

"Console war" speech is what you did, which is to randomly say something out of context about how PS3 games are more buggy.  It wasn't relevant, it's not true in the case of this game (that is an actual fact, not an opinion), and added nothing to your argument.

"Console war" speech is saying one console is better than another.  I have never done that.  I did make some observations concerning the general behavior of people who prefer one console over another, which is something that has been going on since the NES/Genesis era, when even the companies who made the consoles lied.

Basically, chill out.  Sorry I called you out for a completely inappropriate and arbitrary comment, but it really added nothing at all to your post.

In no manner did I even attempt to start a Console War. It is an ACTUAL FACT that the PS3 version has been the worst out of the THREE versions I own. It shares the common issues such as Isabella/Sebastian, Maker's Sigh, etc but it also has freezing issues and has locked up my PS3 on several occasions. No game other than ME2 on initial release has ever done that to my PS3. Once it was patched, it worked fine.

At no point did I say that "PS3 games are more buggy." I did however say that I wasn't surprised the PS3 version has the more significant issues. That's given Bioware's track record of DA:O, ME2, and now DA2 on the PS3. Each of those games have been terrible upon release on the PS3. Eventually they were/will be fixed but they were the worst. Despite that, I still own and play these games on my PS3.

You seem to love to lurk in the PS3 Tech forums and cause issues, call people fanboy's, try to discredit legitimate issues, etc. This is a TECH SUPPORT forum, it IS NOT a place to call someone out. Leave that to the Moderators/Bioware Reps. If you aren't reporting a Bug/Glitch/Issue or providing help in respect to those, DON'T post in the Tech Forums.

If you're feeling masochistic, you should try a pre-patch Fallout: New Vegas. Hell, try a post-patch F:NV. :P
Fun game but yeegads does it have lockup issues. <_<

I actually lost 2 points after using MS on the PS3. Respecced for Void's Hammer, added 21 Willpower to get dressed again, and returned the rest to Magic. A few minutes later I have 19 Willpower :(

I can't do anything with my PS/3 because Sony shut down their PSN a week ago. My game was a special edition of DA 2 but the expiration date came and went and I was unable to download anything since logging into their network is the defacto requirement in order to get the goodies. I was surprized at their cavalier response to my email inquiry. Oh well.

Does anyone know if the maker sigh still work on the new update?
