Well, here we go.  FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.  No really, once the game was finished that was pretty much my response.  After playing through the entire game a lot of it's flaws started to shine through especially once I hit chapter three.  I'm just going to do a quick list of pros and cons and explain a few things.

Pros:
 - Combat!  The combat was fun, fast, and visceral.  I thought it was a lot of fun and a much better experience when in comparison to the first game.  No more awkward shuffle, or awkward animations.

- "The Wheel"  I for one like that they brought that system over to D-Age from Mass Effect.  I don't think it's any different from choosing a sentence in the first game but who cares.  It's totally innovation!
--------------
Cons:
- Npcs.  I didn't like the fact that I couldn't strike up conversations with my other party members any time I wanted to.  I found it kind of annoying that the only time I got to really speak to them was right before, during, and right after one of their quests.  Granted you can give a gift here and there too. The NPCs not having access to certain trees was kind of annoying too.  For instances you can't make Isabella into an archer, and you can't turn sebastian intoa melee rogue.  I found that to be some what annoying especially near the end when I cut my main healers throat and was kind of left with out one.  I miss the interaction from the first game.  I was a lot less attached to these characters.  Except for Varric, he's one sexy dwarf.  I'd make love to that voice and I say this as a straight man.

- Side quests/Areas.  In D-Age Origins there was at least the illusion of change when doing random encounters, or doing a lot of the side quests.  I found myself fighting identical looking mercenary groups through out the city in the same looking areas far to many times to my liking.  Don't even get me started on that damn mine....  DON'T EVEN!

- Narrative.  The story in my opinion was lacking.  Not that it was terrible, but I don't think the pacing was very good and I didn't much care for the ending.  Not so much it's closing but in the fact that there was no way to stay neutral or to work through the issues.  Plus, I had to end up pretty much killing everybody anyways.  Not to mention Merridith who turned Super Saiyan Four on me there at the end.

And there you have it.  Sorry about spelling errors or grammatical errors.  It's almost six in the morning right now.

Other random stuff:

Party member AI doesn't seem very intelligent.  They liked to do...  Very awkward and dumb things during chaotic combat situations.  Ranged don't like to get back even when I tell them to etc.  They'll go to the spot I post, then run back to where they just were seconds later.

Same maps over and over again.  I touched on this but it becomes extremely clear during, and after chapter 2.  Especially if you're like me and try to do all of the side quests.

No skills which was kind of sad, I'm the type of player who likes to pretend I'm the sly warrior.  I like to intimidate and talk people down instead of always turning to violence.  I miss intimidate/lie/convince.  :(

I half agree with your view...As curious as I am regarding what happened to Hawke and the warden...I still think its fairly appropriate with the bigger picture....

Clearly this is a trilogy (maybe more)... thus such plot devices end up being necessary to hold interest...Most likely, there will be an expansion soon enough that will dwell a bit into the mystery behind their disappearance...they cant give too much away afterall.

My personal views on game as a whole? Well its a great game. Combat is good and so is the dialogue wheel and graphics. The story did start of kinda slow (didnt pick up until mid-late act 2). But if not compared to orgins, I think it will eventually fit well into the central plot of dragon age as a whole. There are times when theres no real goal to the game unlike the first one where the goal was since the beginning to kill the archdemon. However, If looked at as a standalone game, separate from its predecessor, then it fits well into the world. Clearly all this is merely a fragment of whats to come. Rather than building an impressive short story about hawke, I think bioware's trying to build a story about how hawke started off, similar to the story of the warden, and the role both the warden and hawke have to play in the central story. Afterll their just part of something big thats been going on in the background.

There are various instances where the story piqued my interest, such as when alistair (king of ferelden, alistair in my game) visits, he mentions problems relating orlais and the hero of ferelden reaching denerim (act 3)....so clearly the warden's location was known right about when DA2 was ending....and jus about when hawke disappears so does the warden....definetely worth waiting for....

So couple of questions to look out for...

-What happened between orlais and ferelden during dragon age 2?
-What were the grey wardens upto during DA2? What have they been
investigating? (during DA2 at end of act2, when pprotagonist party meet
grey wardens, there the wardens mention something about a problem or
mission that they have)
-What was the warden (hero of ferelden) upto during the period of dragon age 2?
-Where have the champion of kirkwall and hero of ferelden disappeared off to?
-Does the mirror of eluvian have something to do with their disappearance? (merill had a mirror and so did morrigan (in her dlc apparantly) [ In my storylines both my heroes (warden and hawke) ended up with morrigan and merill respectively, however, I didnt play awakening or the dlc so moriggan left at the end of da:o, so there a lot of uncertainties]
-Will DA3 have a new protagonist like DA2? Will it be warden and morrigan's son? or hawke and merill's son (provided if they have one)? (or choice between either)?
-What role does Flemeth have to play in this?
-Who are the interrogators? Seems like Leilina is leading them....What is she upto?

So from what I see....There are a few individuals who'll shape the future of DA. - The warden, Hawke, morrigan, Flemeth, Lelina, Alistair, Varric....maybe a few others....

:)

Certainly feels good to be part of something big.
