The point is to have staragy, if u see a bunch of ppl make traps, combine spells use some tactatcs to corner them some where, the game is MENT for you and a small group against almost impossible odds, just my 2 cents

I read somewhere that BG was never "intended" to be played with 6 full time characters. You'd have the four "core" characters (Main, Imoen, Khalid, and Jahiera and Main, Imoen, Minsc, and Jahiera) and would swap out the other two slots with "disposable" extra characters along the way.
That being said, I couldn't imagine playing BG2 without Edwin. =D
