Ok, just fininshed my first runthrough, I purposely skipped a few companion quests and side quests so I would have some fresh content when I play again on nightmare, however there are a TON of unanswered questions after playing through so if you have any additional questions or answers to mine feel free to post.

First of all, what the hell is that idol?  I checked codex's and stuff but no where in the game do you actually find out what the hell it is.  Is it demon possessed? an intelligent item made by dwarves? (like shale from DAO).  It plays a key part in the storyline and is basically the final boss and you never find out what the hell it is.  seriously, wtf.

Connected to the idol, what was up with the thaig you found it in.  They mentioned in game that they thaig is unlike any other they've seen as it has no statues to paragons or anything.  you never find out.  and what are the rock wraiths or whatever those living rock things were.  are they the dwarves who used to live there?  seriously, wtf

Grey wardens: ok, at the very end when you are fighting through the city you run into a couple of grey wardens.  you ask them to help you and they say "sorry but we got more important things to do than save a city from fanatical templars and insane mages, see yah" and then they run off.  that's it.  aside from retired grey warden anders you don't even see a fricken grey warden in this game (nathanial barely shows his face as well).  seriously, wtf

Sandal: ok, he obviously is not just your average savant dwarf.  he perma-freezes ogres and wipes out darkspawn by himself, plus he has a scary lady stand over his bed at night time and laugh a scary laugh.  We could really use some additional info on him by now.  seriously, wtf

the very end of the game.  Ok, so leliana and the seeker are teamed up trying to find the original warden (mine was in bed with her at the end of origins so it shouldnt be all that hard for her to find him) and the champion for some new mission.  absolutely no closure, if we have to wait for dragon age 3 to find out wtf is going on i'm going to be even more evil on my next playthough, and kick every baby nug i find in darktown.  seriously, wtf

and finally, what happened to sir pounce a lot, if he had been around anders wouldnt have decided to become a terrorist.  seriously, wtf

if you got any other questions to add, or clues/answers to mine feel free to post

What does happen if you let him keep it? Does it just not bring it up again? He seems sane while talking to the seeker so it didn't drive him up a wall if he kept it.

Of all the unanswered questions from DA2 I think the thaig and the idol are one of the top things I want explained. I hope they touch up on that in whatever they're planning next.

Idol case reminds of DMC 4(I hope you know what am I speaking of). To remind you - Trish and Dante decided to turn in the almighty demon sword Sparda in order to uncover a cult which worshiped demons. As a result cultists used that weapon to bring mini-Apocalipse into their own city... What else must be said? Wrong item in wrong place, apparently the idol shouldn't have fallen into commander's hands.

Thaig case speaks clearly for itself - cursed thing has been locked for generations, along with all unnatural s**t inhabiting it, but when our heroes arrive they open a can and voila! We have dozen of unknown creatures running around... haven't this already happened in some another realm?...

In case of Grey Wardens I think you're missing something here - their mission is to defend people against darkspawn and the Blight, they are not some-one personal army or mercenaries, so they just keep to themselfs and let the people handle their own local problems, becouse if we look deeply inside - all the conflicts could've been handled pretty easily without such dramatic ending, but we all know what happened <_<

Speaking of Sandal... what weird Lady are you talking about?  How could I missed such a show?? Blast! Anyway... there is more to him then just using overpowered magic - the fact that he can do it at all! As far as I remember from Origins it was clearly stated that no dwarf is capable of using magic at all! So this leads me to these conclusions:
1) Maybe he was exposed to the lirium in some... "special" way, which allowed him to use magic and affected his mind turning him into a retard(if you played Origins - you may remember bald dwarf merchant in Orzammar, who acted pretty... awkward). And in return his... "retardness" gives him some sort of super magic power! :wizard:

Looks like I've reached the limit, so I have to continue in second post.

Continuing on case of Sandal:
2) There is some grim secret connected with this Lady.

In the end I totally agree with you on these things - major holes with no kind of explanation! I've noticed a few things too...

1) In battle with last boss I had... Zevran on my side! I just had to pause and make sure that its not a bug, and its clearly dual-weilding elf from the past! WTF? He decided to help me just because I've allowed him to manhandle me?... (Male char)

2) First Enchanter(forgot his name... the elf with three-headed dragon staff) has turned into a Harvester?? REALLY NOW? WTF? After all his lectures about "saving the mages and making people see not all of us use blood magic". More then that - why turn against a fellow mage who gave his word to protect him? This is a complete madness.

3)I've played as a blood mage and I'm completely disappointed! When some random NPC or Merrill uses blood magic during plot events they get pushed around alot, etc. But when serah Hawke spills gallons of his own blood to mind control and paralize his foes - noone gives a damn about that! Is it some sort of discrimination? I know that the fact that our hero is a maleficar could spoil the whole plot, but why are we given that choice if it doesnt affect the game in any way? wtf?

4) Im not sure about this one... can I call it a case of false advertisement? Well... as we all remember from the very first trailer - Hawke(mage Hawke) summuned 2 huge blazing demonic hands to tear Arishock apart. No such ability or animation close to this one was ever presented to us in-game. WTF?

I think the Arishock's speechs about chaos and the city destroying itself, kinda of explains what happens (haven't finished the game by the way). This is the Age of the dragon (Codex), an age of change, and changes are rarely peacefull, and often chaotic. But of course, unanswered questions is always bad, you have to give at least some answers, so that you can keep others in the shadow.

Yeah there are just a lot of questions that weren't answered.

And the whole "Gone, just like the Warden" comment makes me pretty much 99% positive Dragon Age 3 will have a whole new character again. It's getting a bit old :/

Or you get to play both Hawke and the Warden, i'd give some credit to bioware if they did that.

i really dont want to have to wait another 1.5-2 years to find out the next "episode". DAO had 1 or 2 major unanswered questions at the end (mainly your son), this game had a ton of unanswered questions, in fact it feels more like the game stopped at intermission instead of an actual ending. i'm sorta hoping they add more content in DLC's or an expansion (i'm not a fan of them doing that just to get us to cough up more money but i really want to find out)

i don't think Varric would be cross if you didn't let him keep it. in fact, he'd probably bow out of the argument gracefully if you insisted. But, if you're up for more awesomeness, I think you'll find Varric makes the grade quite handily with that piece. ;)

if you talk to bertrand at camp during the deep roads quest before you head to move onward, you can talk a lil about the thaig and it predates any dwarven thaig they know about, and it has odd features for one. he suggests it may have been built by others, or by a renegade sect of dwarves long

I was actually expecting the relic to be in the story more, finding the background of it and such but alas it was not. just consider it too strong a dose of catnip for meredith, causing her to go feral.(odd since merril is who isabela constantly calls kitten)

as for the grey wardens, they dont get into political situations and the last time they did, the fereldan order was branded traitors, soldiers keep was put to siege and laid to waste, and grey wardens were pretty much banned in the land. so yeah grey wardens avoid the inner workings of politics as much as possible.

it was interesting to see leliana at the end. im curious what she is doing but i imagine the next part of the story will be in the expansion. this campaign was pretty much the background of the rise of the champion and the power struggle in kirkwall. the expansion im guessing with be cassandra finding the champion and trying to get him to help with the aftermath. so i think they deliberately left all those cliffhangers to make you want the expansion

A union of the Warden and Champion would be amazingly bad ass. Bring back their LI's and a few fan favorites like Shale and have a mighty conclusion to at least part of the Dragon Age story. Better yet, bring back David Warner (Irenicus) as a voice actor and have him be the final bad guy. If Bioware is going to rip off stories, I'd 100 percent support them ripping off Baldurs Gate II again haha.

This is what I absolutely hated about the ending.  A cliffhanger is fine, but damn, give us some level of satisfaction at the ending.  ME 2 gave us a crew full of warriors ready to go and Reapers on the way.  Baldurs Gate II gave us Irenicus in lava with mysterious "hooded characters" talking about killing the main character.  DA II gave us...the world going to crap and everyone disappearing.  Welp...

Now screwoffreg, not EVERYONE was disappearing. Only the people who could actually do something about the world going to crap. We clearly saw that Leliana and Varric were both fine, after all.

In all seriousness, though, I really hope some DLC answers the questions we have. It's up there with the Assassin's Creed Series, on the Cliffhanger scale.
