@Mystranna Kelteel : You, uh, never tried taking Thane to fight the Oculus?
The party member you take with you to the Oculus only affects the death at the reactor/engine explosion. The Thanix Cannon death happens once Shepard is back up in the cockpit, and as such your party members are back at their posts, including Thane if you took him below decks.

Really? Well, then, since I can't solve your problem, this is all I've got:Mystranna Kelteel wrote...

Problem, Shepard?

Seriously, though. BW provides ample opportunity for players to get rid of any ME2 squaddies you dislike. Just because people manufacture overly complicated reasons to not take that opportunity is not a fault on BW's decision to include Garrus as a permanent squadmate in ME3 (assuming he survives), nor is it a fault of Garrus' character that he would hang in there with Shep until the bitter end. Now, it does sound like ME3 is all about choices and their consequences, so maybe you will have an opportunity to pick up a placeholder squadmate in Garrus' stead. Or do something heinous to drive him away. *shrug* And if, for all that, you still take him on...well, it's on your shoulders regardless. RPing or no, you the player can drive your Shep's story wherever you wish. No good comes from overcomplicating matters for yourself and then complaining that you are forced to play a certain way when you are given ample opportunity to change it.
As for me...I'm thrilled I didn't have to wait until ME3's release to learn Garrus was in as a permanent squadmate (assuming he survives the SM). Better than having to pick apart the game's files to learn if he's back or not.

Roleplaying the character I made is actually really simple. And I haven't faulted anyone for Garrus being in the game in any role. I simply said I want the option to turn him down.
Because I can't drive my Shepard's story wherever I wish, not even close, but it would be nice to control as much as possible.

I just don't like the "I hate X, but X is back, so Ruined Forever" stuff.

Hey, the more options, the better.

Some annoying squadmates/companions don't ruin a game for me. The writers could "Lazarus project" Tali and Garrus (I would rage of course^_^)...I'd still buy ME3. But compulsory party members are one of my biggest complaints about the post-BG games.
Shep: "No, I don't want a quarian teenager aboard my ship"
Udina: "But Thou Must"
Shep: "okay"

I really think the Tali/Liara/Jack/Garrus/Mordin issue was one of game design. In ME1, you needed to have at least four squadmates so that you'd have your two dudes following you around while Kaidan and Ashley set up the bomb/went with the salarians. In ME2, you needed enough people to at least have two left for the end run of the SM. That and Liara/Mordin were necessary to continue the story. So, really, they had no choice but to make a few of them mandatory in order to not break the game (although perhaps they could have done a headcount trigger or something).Barquiel wrote...

To be honest, if I'd been given the option in ME1, I would have told Ashley, Liara, and Kaidan to get lost (although I wouldn't kill 'em). Same with Thane, Miranda, and Jacob in ME2. However, after actually talking to them and using them in combat in subsequent playthroughs, I've grown attached to the bastards. Damn you, Bioware, making me like characters I used to hate...
ALSO: Patrick Weekes (one of the writers) in a tweet a few days ago said that Garrus in ME3 will behave like a combination of Wash from Firefly and Romeo and Juliet's Mercutio (who, IMO, was the only character worth a sh*t in that play). I guess this means he'll be taking the Bro4Life role again (which is awesome news for me), but I am a bit wary because both of those characters died. And died hard.

Just throwing it out there, but I don't get this "I hope X is optional" silliness. Seriously, if you don't like the fact that X is on your squad, just never talk to him/her or take him/her on missions.
Not that I have a problem with stuff being optional, but some people are seriously... petty.
I agree with you very much indeed, and it's more than petty really, isn't it? Makes me wish the reading of certain people's posts were optional (meaning made invisible).

Anyway, I believe an "I told you so" is in order.
Also, pics:
Am I the only one that feels happy each time I see Garrus?
PS. I like his look without the bandage.

As much as I support Teh Nekkid, I have a bit of an... ahem... armor fetish. Call me crazy, but I like Varia Suit Samus better than Zero Suit Samus. Yup.habitat 67 wrote...

No, you're not. I squeed like a Twilight fangirl at the sight of Moar Garrus.MaynPayn wrote...

Love Garrus to bits (in a manly way of course) but that line always makes me smile and seemed appropriate.
