Are you referring to the Talisman of Saarberas? I wonder about that too.

I was refering to that particular talisman. There is also a staff you can buy in hightown act 1 that improves blood magic too.

Merrill's Blood of the First counts as Blood Magic.

And yes, the bonuses do stack.

Friendship + Blood of the First + Talisman = 4 mana for 1 health
That means an ability that costs 20 mana now costs 5 health sweet!

If you are yourself a Blood Mage, then it is possible to get 1:9 ratio, here's how

2 from basic Blood Magic Spell + 1 from upgrade + 2 for two separate rings that you can buy in act 2 + 1 for Talisman of Serabeth + 1 from a glove + 1 from a staff + 1 from Neophyte robe bought from Lowtown

For Merril, you can get upto 7 since you cannot equip her with the glove and robe

This is the highest that I've been able to get.

I think there are multiple versions of Neophyte Robes like Ornate Rings, the one that I bought had 151 armor and required 24 Magic and 24 willpower.

I'll try to list all the items that I've mentioned above

1. Ring of Transitional Power
2. Ring of Ruin
3. Talisman of Saarebas (Amulet)
4. The hands of Fate (Gloves)
5. Neophyte Robes
6. Corrupted Acolyte Staff (there is another staff avaiable in act 2 from the merchant in the Wouned Coast, I was unable to buy that one as I was low on gold that time :( )

So from just items alone you can get 1:6 ratio + 3 from power  and upgrade to a grand total of 1:9

Merils is already a Blood Mage, her "Blood of the First" spell is essentially just Blood Magic :)

There is a helm at the tailor in low town that only appears after you start Ander's quest chain by talking to Varric and going into the Ferelden Imports. Tailor shop is right outside. Only available in Act 1.

So now the only blood magic item slot thats missing arethe belt and boots.
Could it be possible to reach a 1/11 ratio?

Also the trinket shop in lowtown may randomly stock a ring or two that improves blood magic,
they'll be called the ring of minor cantrips but its random, you may get rings with the same name but different abilities.

I had Meril as a full blood mage on my warrior run and found 4 rings (including the 2 listed above) that had blood magic bonuses. I respecced her and she had 1 health = 7 mana with 400hp so 2,800 mana with 22 regeneration. Ran 3 sustainables from mana before activating blood of the first so they eat into her mana not health and there you have a serious bad ass.
Just wish I had known that spell damage is related to the base damage of the staff you use (this has been confirmed here ) as I had her running around with a lower level blood mage staff that had nice bonuses like +30% cold damage.

Update: In my second playthrough as a Warrior, I came across Neophyte Robes that had the same stat but did not have any Blood Magic bonus. I think a lot of items are generated in the game randomly.

In my second playthrough, I came across a Neophyte Boot that has Blood Magic bonus, but I've yet to stumble upon a belt. As we all can see, these things are pretty random, and the chance of getting all the items in a single playthrough is a bit low. :(

thank you for the answer I have been looking for it for some time :)


with some blood magic trinkets, sustained abilites and all Merrills attribute points put in constitution and magic  I can make Merrill into serious killing machine Posted Image

also note that with just rock armor and arcane shield running (which gives you an impressive defense for a companion mage imo), you have 35% (?) sustains... so 1:5 blood magic is like 1:7.6 ratio
