Currently my mage is at level 8 or 9. I have been spending points very specifically to certain areas witht he assumption that I will fill those up and will be able to move on to other areas once those are maxed out. If the cap is at level 20, then I need to start right now to begin to spread my points around. However, if the cap is level 30, then I can continue with my current strategy.

So, does anyone know the DA2 level cap?

The "soft" cap is somewhere between 20-25.

Probably that the soft cap is where you'll end at when you finish the game without doing every side quest.
Hard cap would be if you do every possible side quest as well as the main plot.

Soft cap is how much you can get with the experience that is available in the game.

Soft cap is how much experience is available.
Hard cap is where the numbers stop moving even if you try.

So in other words, I stop having the option to level up once I hit level 20?

I just beat the game and I finished just below 26, no idea if I could have actually reached 26, but there you go, it's at least 25.

How could you hit the hard cap, then?

XP exploits are the only way right now. But i guess future DLC will get us nearer to it.

Maybe I'm just this uber noob (even though I've been RPGing since the mid 90s) but let me put it in a simplier way so I can get a solid answer instead of two answer.

Mass Effect 1 had a max level cap at 60, meaning that even though I still get XP, I cannot level up beyond 60. Meaning that there is not level 61, 62, or 63....just 60 as the max.

Mass Effect 2 had a max level cap at 30, meaining that even though I complete missions, once I reach level 30, there is no more leveling up my Shepard/squadmates.

So............for Dragon Age 2, what is the level in which when I reach, it would be the final time I will be able to level up my character? Is that level 20? Is that level 25? Or is that level 50?

Well like I just said, I leveled up 25 times, almost got to 26 but the game ended.

You theoretically could reach 50 but there is not enough experience in the game. The most you will get will get you to 25. Unless you use some exp glitch or dev console.

that would be level 50. But you won't reach it because there isn't enough experience in the game to get so far. When you do everything you'll be somewhere in the 20s.

Thanks, that is as specific as I wanted it. This tells me that I have atleast 15 more level ups with the possibility of more.

It just irks me when you ask one simple question that calls for one simple answer and instead you get two different vague answers.

It is 50, but you will never reach 50 unless you cheat.

50 is the cap. But its impossible to reach with the amount of xp available in the game. That runs out at around lvl 25.

Do u remeber when u could  play once throught mass effect and only get say 30-40 well i did almsot lv 50 onm 1st playthrought then i could use my old shep that was lv 40ish to play again.

im guessing this is the same thing in DA2 which tbh i kinda liked since u should get bettter items the 2nd time round.

1. No matter how much XP your characters earns, the game engine can't support going beyond level 50.

2. However, as things stand right now, there's only enough XP in the game for you to reach around level 25.  (just like how in the original ME, you wouldn't be able to get enough XP to reach level 60 in a single play-through)

The original ME had a "hard cap" of 60, but the "soft cap" for a single play-through was around level 50. To go higher, you needed new game+. Just like in DA2, you'd need DLC or expansions to go beyond 25.

BTW, the Black Emporium sells an item (relatively cheap, 1 gold 30 silver or something like that) that lets you respec your character completely...

Thanks again, that clears things up further.

Also thanks about the infor regarding the item that lets me re-level my character. I think I'm going to need to do that since Merrill is part of my 4-player party now. I'll make my mage the healer of the group and let Merrill be the attack mage of the group.

Also does this item let me re-level my squad? Or just me? If its just me then thats fine.

Umm everything was perfectly clear. Exp ends around lvl 25, Extra DLC may expand this soft cap, and the hard cap (no more leveling up ever) is 50.

Thats exactly what was stated and you really cant get clearer than that, thats laymens
