Thanks again, that clears things up further.

Also thanks about the infor regarding the item that lets me re-level my character. I think I'm going to need to do that since Merrill is part of my 4-player party now. I'll make my mage the healer of the group and let Merrill be the attack mage of the group.

Also does this item let me re-level my squad? Or just me? If its just me then thats fine.

It's a potion, so if you want to re-spec multiple characters, you'd have to buy more than one. IIRC the store has an unlimited supply.

How could you hit the hard cap, then?

I'm guessing what they are refferring to as a hard cap can only be hit with upcoming DLC/Expansions that will be released later on.  This gives the dev's room to add things later without people complaining about hitting the cap before they were done.  In DA:O I hit 35 before I finished Witch Hunt....I might have even hit it in Golems, but I can't remember now.

I hope its at least 25 because I'm level 18 and have only did 2 companion quests, 3 secondary and 3 side in Act 2. I have strat guide and I know there is alot more in Act 2, not counting Act 3. The thing that sucks is the guide, as far as I've seen, does not say a level cap.

So why is there no NG+, if there is only enough exp to get to level 25 but the hard cap is 50 then NG+ would be perfect.

i'm going to take a wild guess here (sarcasm) and say its because they plan to have quiet a bit of DLC for this game and want to give the charcter the option to 'grow' with the additions.

Because what fun would the new DLC be if your levell 50 for lvl 25 content and can just blow threw everything? You will get the same kind of Complaining they had in Mass Effect 1 and 2 about not being able to level up any furter and people wanted more levels, just to have more levels.

Basically what Bioware did was give themselves a bit of breathing room for DLC and expansions.

Just because you have a hard cap in a game does not necesarrily mean its in the games best interest to let you reach said hard cap.

I see, so we sacrifice NG+ so they can sell us DLC...and you are defending that?

The cap can be raised with DLC, an expansion or even a patch so there really is no excuse.

It can be raised. But then people with hit that cap, and want more. They basically made it so that can't happen, and they won't have to bother raising it in the DLC/Expansions.

Exactly right.

So developers are not allowed to plan for the future anymore? So anything in the game has to be able to be used right away? Thats a bit short sighted.

Your not being "cheated"  out of a New Game Plus mode, this game is supremely replayarable and is made for multiple playthroughs with different class and skill combinations, plus lets not forget playthroughs with a Dragon Age: Origans save. So I really dont see your complaint?

Let me ask you some questions:
  • What if they had hard capped it at 25?
  • Would you be complaining about being 'cheated' then?
Bioware put the 'extra' levels on the front end as priority code so that they would have less trouble patching in these systems and having conflicts later on.
Because as ANYONE who does programming can tell you, patching in ANYTHING from the littlest hair color to a tiny increase in levels, can cause a billion bugs and unexpected complications.

Why not (if your a programmer) save yourself some hassle and put things out on the front end as base code, and have few less catastrophic bugs/glitches/unexpected conflicts to worry about?

My first run I ended on level 22 just below 23 and I only missed a couple side quests due to bad decisions.

There is a leveling 'glitch' in the game, where you can get unlimited EXP/Coin for the 'item quests' (Like sister plinth's remains). Supposedly if you hit a repeatedly to talk to them, instead of just once, they'll keep dumping coin and EXP.

I've reached level 31 so the level cap can't be level 25.

I ended my first playthrough just a bit ago at 26, no cheats or exploits.

BUT, I did use a potion I bought in game to give it to me. I got to 25 on my own through doing everything in the game I could find, cleaned out all areas through every act, day and night, found every codex I believe there is, or close to it, found all the crafting items, explored every little nook and cranny, etc.

THEN, I made this nifty little potion, called the Potion of Heroism, and it gave me and all party members 1 extra level, which bumped me up to 26 right before the end fight. I thought it was pretty spiffy to have.

I was also playing on hard, so not sure if that gives more exp than on normal/casual or not.

Xbox 360 version you can use the exp cheat to get to level 50. (I'm being fair though and playing through the first time without it.) I created a new save after I did it before they patch it. It'll be my own personal New Game +. :-)

So here's the deal with leveling and the XP Glitch:

Soft cap (experience available in the game): lvl 25ish.
Hard cap (cannot level beyond this point: lvl 50.

Using the XP Glitch to get you to level 30, or 40 or 50 isn't exactly a "cheat" in terms of difficulty as the enemies seem to be level relative to you. I am playing on Hard and got to level 9 regularly; when I found out about the cheat, I reloaded an earlier section and used it because I wanted to play around with more spells. I am currently level 30 and, I had to redo several bits that I had played through already and they were significantly harder once I was level 30 than when I was level 9 because enemies were of a higher rank and had more health. Granted I am not beyond Act 1 yet, I'm taking my time, but it certainly seems that the "level" difference with the cheat doesn't so much matter. - Assassins and Hunters are still a pain to handle and, if anything, they still hit like mad (can take my 65 points into constitution mage from almost full to about 1/5 of her health left in their one vanish/backstab move.)

What does matter is the monetary difference that you get (by level 30 you have somewhere in the vincinity of 500g. This would allow you to make life significantly easier because you can purchase all the potions and armor and upgrades you want. The choice is then up to the player.

For my game experience, I am supposed to be a mage but in my "RPG" I am playing an older witch that deals with blood magic, and hexes and such so it didn't make sense that she wouldn't have any spells at her disposal. As such, once I glitched to level 30 so that I could get more spells to work with I got rid of my money so that I had only 1g (the amount that I had started at before the XP glitch). This kept me in balance with the games enemies... if anything, it put me at a disadvantage because I couldn't purchase the weapon upgrades for my characters for their appropriate level... ie. Carver was using a 5 physical damage sword when it seemed that stores were selling 45 physical damage swords. I had to rely on loot drops (which were not plentiful) to start gearing everyone out.

Of course, there are the arguments that: "Well, now you don't look forward to getting new abilities..." And those are valid arguments. As I am not max level, I am still gaining XP and will probably gain one or two or three levels by the end of the game.... So I can look to some new spells.... Furthermore, my second playthrough will be with a rogue and will not have any cheats. In my opinion, it really depends on how you see the game playing out for yourself.

I glitched to level 14, so I could unlock the 2 specializations in act 1, and didn't want to glitch any further. Had enough gold to buy the significant upgrades, and then progressed through to act 3.

What I found disappointing was that all the named weapons and armor were nothing compared to the unnamed gear available from npc drops and stores. Other than that, the game was still very challenging on hard mode.

The hard battles I had to turn down to normal mode were the end of act 1 boss and the waves of elite enemies at the end of the forbidden knowledge quest in act 2.

My next playthrough (might go rogue instead of warrior) I intend to play on hard mode w/o glitching. I don't think they'll patch it. They never patched the DA:O duplicating glitch (you could increase your money nearly infinitely, by duplicating the total of items if you had more than 1 of anything particular, say, tomes to increase stats spells or skills, or a really nice weapon, and sell all the copies, thus, infinite gold, and infinite tomes to increase your stats and spells)
