I plan on playing a Mage Hawke, romancing Merrill and siding with the Mages all the way. For the rest of my companions who is best left as rival and who is best at having friendships with? Want to be able to keep everyone around and loyal to me all the way towards the end.
Which characters are best left as Rivals/Friends?

Friendship Def go with Anders because he is Mage all the way. Be careful with Merrill's blood mage stuff cause that will ****** off Anders though.

You definately want Fenris as a friend (good luck) if you're siding with mages. Looks like the minimum for him to stick around as a rival while you're a mage is siding with the templars.

I have to disagree with you Malja, as I didnt have him as a friend (maybe very low) and sided with the Mages but convinced him at the end to rejoin me with a comment about freedom. I think if you complete their companion quests to the utmost and not go full on rival you should be okay.

Ummm... I was at 100% rivalry with Fenris and sided with the mages at the end and he never left my party (though he did voice his disapproval). I was in a romance with him though if that makes a difference.

LordHelfort, that's really encouraging. I'm currently playing as a mage, and Fenris just seems determined to be a rival. I just cannot stomach the thought of siding with the Templars. Keeping some checks and balances on mages is all well and good, but I cannot abide by their zealous creation of the Tranquil. I wonder if this has to do with the romance option. People playing with Fenris in a "rivalmance" report not being able to keep him while remaining on the side of mages.

Are you a mage? I was speaking solely for also being a mage.
If so, that's great. I'm not really wanting more reasons for my companions to have a lil rant and leave despite full friendship/rivalry.
