Wait if I am a mage my Sister who is also a mage dies as a direct result of it?

I'm sorry but I want to choose my party not have a pseudorandom event that both cuts corners (No need to have a nice interplay between the two sisters who are mages) and also demanding a second replay to see her content.

The combat seems nice, but this? 's just horrible. RPGs are supposed to have choice and I don't feel like i've made one..

You do not get to keep either sibling. Whichever sibling survives to go to Kirkwall with you will still be seperated from you before you even finish half of the game. There are different ways this can happen, but the end result is that you do not get to keep either one.

Yeah. I had an inkling of that. I was just expecting more of a 'comment' on two mages in the same family or something. Its bound to be rare.

Something like the extra dialogue that dalish get in the morrigan dlc. They apparently get a ton of extra chit chat.

Instead she is just taken out; BAM!

Kinda glad to hear we get rid of them both though. Its world of hawkcraft.

But it still feels like Mass Effect where your choice of soldier or biotic.. or shepards gender is used to determine what happens on virmire.

Actually, it isn't. Not for this family at least. Your cousins on your mother's side were all sent to the Circle it seems.
