the circle is probably best, only under the templar for a handful of years, then pretty much free, certainly better than the taint or death.

BIG SPOILERS IN HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my first run through i listened to mother and kept bethany at home, when i got back from deep roads, she was getting sent to the circle. i had max friendship with her before that occured. during act 2 she and mother write to each other alot and mother goes to visit with her.
bethany seems to do well there, she adjusts and is for the most part happy. i was very mage friendly in my playthrough, helped the half-elven boy mage by getting him to the dalish and then in the next act i went into the fade where isabela and merril both betrayed me, but varric and i finished it with the good conclusion. i spared the starkhaven blood mages, and helped thrask, keran(keeping him in the templars) and some other things. all this bit me in the butt in act 3 where thrask formed an anti templar/meredith group, with the starkhaven bloodmage i saved. the blood mage decided that even though i saved her life me killing her psychotic lover made me evil and took bethany as a hostage under a blood magic binding spell. keran and another mage i helped were in the group and when i confronted them to get bethany back those 2 helped me and then helped break the binding spell to free her. i got to briefly talk to bethany and she was glad im always there to protect her.

in the end i sided with the mages and bethany was glad i was on her side, joined my group and we decimated the templars, and meredith the psycho. i romanced isabela and got her her ship so i imagine her bethany and i are sailing the seas on the run from varrics end story(didnt mention bethany but i like to assume so)

also i took care of the douche templar sir ulrik so bethany was safe from the tranquil creating mental templar as well.

so i assume the circle is actually a really good option for her. i hope this helps and sorry about how spoiler it is.

Your choices and my choices are exactly the same. Yes Bethany went with Hawke and Isabela in my mind too, family has to stick together.

Bethany and Carver seem to be happier when they are in circle/templar. Carver really stand right beside you if he is in templar and you side with templar.
That said, Carver was wearing Greywarden's armor in exaggerated scene in prologue, so I want to try making Carver a Greywarden next time.

I was scared that Bethany would be made tranquil if sent to the circle.

I like Bethany so much I would have restarted the game to give her a different fate.

Grey Wardens for Beth. Maybe life in the circle of Ferelden wouldn't be too bad, but in Kirkwall?

I like Carver in the Templars, he had been leaning in that direction before Hawke went into the deep roads so it felt right.

Personally? Grey Wardens. That way neither of them have to deal with the political upheaval that is going to tear Thedas apart.

With Carver, I have to honestly say the Gray Wardens. Carver's defining trait is his resentment towards his more successful and prestigious older brother, and the underlying feeling that he's just  "along for the ride." We see it in his interactions with Hawke about templars, and we see it again in his companion sidequest: He doesn't care about the Amells or anything like that, he's got nothing tying him down: He'd make a perfect Gray Warden. This is in contrast to Bethany, who, being a mage is inherently involved in the whole Mage/Templar crisis, and is close to Hawke already.

Aside from that, in the Deep Roads, when Carver is tainted, you get a really good scene (love it, devs, really do) when he's infected and Hawke is trying to keep Carver moving, and then when you find the Wardens, how Hawke is sorry that it came to this, and what really matters is that Carver lives. It's the start of character development for Carver, who mellows out considerably when you see him during the Qunari invasion, and again during the end of the game, where he rejoins you. He keeps the nonchalance about the whole thing: He's just standing by his brother/sister, regardless of his side.

With Bethany, I don't see it having much impact since she's closer to Hawke to begin with.

Obviously Grey Wardens but I think it's our bias since we know the bittersweetness of that lifestyle. I wanted to kill Cullen right then and there when they took her......On my second playthrough she's going with me in the Deep Road, F-that! She's a sweet sister~

The goodbye scene for Carver in the Deep Roads was really sad. He and my Hawke didn't get along very well, but I felt for them there.

I decided to bring Carver to the Deep Roads because my Hawke felt that he was old enough to make the decision himself, and she had had enough of him complaining about living in her shadow. The codex says that Carver feels that he was forced to become a Grey Warden, but his coming to the Deep Roads at all was his own doing. He knew the risks.

For Bethany, my Hawke will be more of a softy when it comes to her mom, and she will probably leave her at home to get sent to the Circle. Hawke will feel terribly guilty afterwards, but since I know it won't end with her Tranquil or dead, I won't feel too bad about it.

Crap I made a topic(or maybe two) about this, didn't know this post was about THAT fate.

I have Carver and I am a Mage. Obviously I'm not going to choose Templars over Mages(that would be silly..considering I'm a Mage and have felt the Templars have been in the wrong since Origins), so does that mean Carver never comes back to my side??

What options give me the most development for Carver and most Carver appearances. I was really hoping for some nice character development between the siblings and Carver is my favorite non-prequel character in this game.

Does Carver stay at home if he becomes a Templar? Does he get missions? My biggest thing in picking is which options gives Carver the most development/appearances/moments with the sibling. And also which has him end up on my side come the final battle.

In my first playthrough, she was sent to the circle, because I honored my mothers request In keeping her at home, This playthrough I intend to make her a gray warden, just to see the outcome.

While she is sort of angry with you at end of Act II, she comes back at endgame and seems more then happy and thankful that you saved her. You actually have the option of having her in your party for the final quest.

Im not sure if this is any different then if she went with the circle.

Wow, I didn't even know the whole Grey Wardens thing was an option. The first time I played the Deep Roads she died, it was horrible so I reloaded my pre-deep roads save and left her at home. It super-briefly entered my mind 'what if Anders was there, he's a Grey Warden, could he make her one?' but the logical answer was, she said she couldn't make it to the surface, and Anders wouldnt have all the stuff for the ritual with him down there so it wouldnt make any difference. So apparently if you bring him along he knows where there are Grey Wardens nearby or something? Man thats unexpected, thanks a lot for that information, I'd have never guessed that on my own. My current (and first) playthrough is early in act three, Bethany's in the circle and everything is OK and all, aside from the fact that its incredibly annoying that my Hawke is never given the opportunity to bust her out of there, or make a deal for her freedom in return for all the things Hawke does for the city/chantry/templars/whoever, its like Hawke isn't allowed to even care that her sister is in that prison, which is incredibly annoying to say the least.

I think I'll stick with the circle thing since Im so far through the game right now, and from what I'm hearing it does turn out well in the end. Of course being a Grey Warden is super cool also, and it means freedom as well, so next go round I imagine I'll let her become one, I'd think overall that would be the superior thing to happen, aside from the whole '30 years to live' thing, which could probably be overcome by finding Fiona, or Morrigan, or Flemeth, or who knows what :) . Thanks for all this excellent information!

in my game carver isn't really that bad, he is just fed up with hawke getting all the recognition. im nice to him when he is upset but firm when he challenges me. then at one touching conversation he said he "needs to find his own way" so i would like to let him join the templars since he has a lot of disdain for the mages and it would be great if he could change the templar order from the inside using the ideals ive taught him to make the world a better place for mages and normal people. And by the final act he will return to apologize for being a punk the whole time and be a man for once. he will also be decked out in knight commander armor.......wait did i forget to mention he is leading the templars now uniting the forces of the circle mages and the templars to fight back angaist the blight instead of waistng their efforts fighting mages since templar magic can be very useful against the blighted monsters???
Cause that's pretty important.

But i digress, i just want to know if he will fight by my side in the end after he joins the templars.....oh! and the thing about the knight commander armor!!

Has those who played the game more than once have the verdict yet? Which option is best for Carver/Bethany? Or well which they do appear more. I imagine Carver is right in the CHantry or in the Gallows right? Or no? Is he hidden away? And if he is a templar does he rejoin your side/

Combined? I'm confused :-p.

So no matter what side, they can be in the final battle...

Hmm...what to do...what to do...I'm at the scene now...I can't decide which will be better.

Is there any gift I could give Carver in Act 1 that I just didn't get yet? I pretty much have done everything but we're still just a tiny bit in rivals...I rather him be a Warden and my friend...or maybe a templar and my friend.

Dang, I hate choices, lol.

I can't decide which would be best...

Does anyone know which one he appears more in and seems happier with?

I opt for the Wardens.... you're free to live your life...compared to either being dead or trapped in the Circle when everything goes to hell..... I haven' played a non mage yet but that's my take :)

Same with Carver.... I can't face him being a Templar, and ANYTHING is better than dying of the taint....

My first Playthrough I took Carver to the Deep Roads and he became a Grey Warden.
I was pro Mage at the End and having Carver join the fight against the Templars was really touching.
Bethany seems like a dull charakter so I will see what happens with her when I decide to leave her at home and my new Vanguard is pro Templar. ^^

But in my Opinion Carver > Bethany!

You will receive a letter from a 'friend of the family' in Gamlen's house that will lead you to the gallows, which will be a gift for Carver.  Once you complete that, I think it will tell you which Carver is happier being.  So, I won't spoil that for you.

I thought Carver has the better fate, smashed to death, whereas I had to kill Bethany from the corruption
