I have no idea how I'm going to keep all of my compainions, as every decision I make is going to annoy one or the other. If anyone can tell me how to not totally ****** off Fenris, Anders, or Aveline- that would be greatly appreciated.  Also, is the mage ending better or the templar ending better, in your opinion?
Thanks!

I went Templars and found Cullen to provide a much needed temperance against Meredith which I ultimately felt pretty good with. From what I've heard the mage ending is kind of aggravating.

If youve maxed out friendship/rivalry on characters that normally would lean the other side I do believe you can keep everyone. As far as 'best' ending thats pretty subjective. The story ending itself doesnt change much regardless of which side you take and theres no good or evil choice here. Both sides a gray, theyre both inheritable evil and good at the same time. Dragon age isnt a series about the struggle of good vs evil its much darker than that which makes it unique amongst the masses of savior style game stories.

*Spoilers*

If you have The Exiled Prince DLC, Seb makes you choose between him and Anders at the end.

Noooooooooooooo! Stupid Sebastian. So, I can romance Anders and choose the templar side at the end?

Yeah. Seb and Anders are going to go off at each other in the end.

I believe that there are a few companions who will originally go to the other side. Fenris was full friendship and initially disagreed with my character's choice, saying he would fight for the Templars- but we met again at the Gallows and he changed his mind, coming over to the Mage side. I wonder if Merill might do something similar. I'm not sure if you could keep Andars and go with the templars, either.

I don't think that you can keep Fenris if you side with the mages and you're maxed with rivalry.

Well all endings result in the world being all lit on fire by the war between the Templars and the Mages, so...

I guess it's up to you to decide whether your definition of happy ending is 'slaughtered innocents to save other innocents' or 'didn't kill potentially evil crazy powerful people because I might also kill innocents'.

Well, Sebastian demanding Anders death fits perfectly with his personality. He wanted vengeance on those who murdered his family.. in order to recruit him, you kill those people for him. Then his basically adopted mother is killed. No matter how much I wanted Anders not to go insane because I adored him in Awakening... he decides to start his revolution by murdering pretty much the most sane person in Kirkwall...and that person happens to also be the only remnants of family Sebastian has left. Of COURSE he's going to call for Anders to die. Anders, sadly, proves that he, too, is the worst of what mages can be and your trust in him allowed this to continue. If you can't give Justice (ironic to use that word) to Sebastian for the death of the woman he loved like a mother, then you don't deserve to keep Sebastian in your group.

This isn't condemnation... I'm getting to that point and still wavering on whether I can really knife Anders or not, even knowing I'll lose Sebastian if I just let Anders go. But that just means I also feel like I may not 'deserve' Sebastian's loyalties too.

It looks like Anders and Seb are impossible to keep together. Anders needs to die or Seb will leave.

From my experience, unless you're full friend (or close), Fenris will go with the templars and Merill will go with the mages. Full friend can convince Fenris that what's being done to the mages in slavery, and full friend can convince Merill that they have to side with the templars as they hold some responsibility for Anders option. If they're at rival, though, they'll only side with their chosen side... which I actually find strange. I would think it should be the other way around (as rival Fenris is about convincing him not all Mages are bad and rival Merill is about convincing her that some paths should not be taken and to act with responsibility). I don't think you can keep Anders if you go templar, either- I think they order him killed and he wouldn't go with it, but I haven't checked that yet, just the Merill and Fenris deal.

See, now that can't be quite right. I had Fenris at rivalry (can't remember if it was full but his rivalry bonus was unlocked in the skill tree) and he stuck with me when I went with mages.

I've been told it's perfectly possible.

Fenris was full Rivalry for me and he helped me fight against the Templars from the very first fight and Aveline was neither friend nor rival and sided with me. I think it has to do with doing companion quests. I didnt finish Sebastians I think as I didnt get the achievement. I think thats why I had to choose.

I'm not done with the game, but I think The Exiled Prince achievements are bugged cause I should have 4 of them already or something like that and I've got ZERO.

Answer: Buy DAO. The narration of the game basically sets up a zero-sum end game scenario. Very different than almost every RPG out there, kudos to Bioware.

I sacrificed Sebastian, after Ander does his 'thing' at the end. I won't elaborate, but that is the only person I lost.

Same here. He was about in the middle for me. I was surprised when he came back to my side. It was welcome of course.

Merill was in the middle as I barely conversed with her. I did none of her companion quests. When I sided with the templars, she was a bit worried at first but she rather easily fell into line.

There is no "best ending", just like with Origins. Everything is slightly skewed. I think this is for balance/import purposes.

So, I ended up killing an ex-slave elf for the second time, the first time I killed Zevran in Origins when his Crows friend showed up and he tried to kill my Warden again and now I just killed Fenris in DA2 when he sided with the Templars.

When will these fools learn not to betray me?
