Okay, what's the deal with this quest?  You find some of them in containers, and find others in shops.  I'm not sure what you get for completing this quest.  It can't be gold, since you need to buy some of the swords for around 3.5 gold, and you can turn them in for like 30 silver.  Has anyone completed this quest?  What do you get?  How many swords are there?  And where did you find them all?

experience. pretty much that's it. And it doesn't have to be done to completion if you don't find them all, and only turn in a few, it's just a little added xp to buff up the bar.

It's not just xp and coin, if you turn in all there's a staff reward. Or so I'm told, playing the quest now to test it though. First playthrough I didn't find them all.

A little off topic but that quest confused me to no end. How is that the qunari attacked and then there is the qunari standing there saying "hey those swords are ours, it is your duty to give them to me" crap. I know it was a three year jump but still.

I did, for money though.  It's something like 30 silver per sword, on top of 3-500 XP per.

You get a 2h sword I forget the name though. I already had better so I just walked over to a vendor and sold it.

Apparently you only get the staff if you don't ask for money.

I got 1200 xp per sword after the first one (the first one gave much more), and I did not turn them in for money.

I don't see the point in turning them in for money anyway if you get 30 silver per sword. You actually have to buy most of them for around 3 gold each. Not exactly profitable.

Yep that seems to be the catch, dont ask for money and you get a class appropriate weapon. Semi decent although I've seen a lot better.

I just noticed how little you get for the swords... for 3 swords I got 90 silver and I think 500 exp... good thing the xbox did an autosave so I'm now going back for just exp.

Hmm... I got thousands of XP for the quest. I never asked for money. The reward if you don't ask for $$ is fixed to your class, but I'm not sure if you can get a bow or a 1H sword (I got a dagger). I certainly rec'd more than 5k exp. Maybe the exp reward scales with your level or not asking for gold? I've finished the quest, or I'd check myself.

The real question is, how is that Qunari gonna carry 10 great swords bareback all the way to Saharen?

If you find all of them and don't ask for money you get a weapon. The weapon changes to what class you are plaing also.

It's sad that it took all these responses before someone actually provided the correct answer.

As omghithere wrote, if you turn in all ten without asking for reward, then you get a weapon. This information is readily available on the internet and in the strategy guide, and the swords are easy to find. The weapon you will get will vary depending on your class.

As a rogue (dual wielder) I got a bow. So, useless, since I didn't actually use a bow. As a two-handed sword wielder I got a ridiculous-looking sword that immediately went into the junk pile.

How can you tell how many you have? I thought I'd found them all, but I didn't get anything but XP when I turned them in, and they don't show in my inventory. The codex doesn't help. either.

Read the journal entry.  When you find them all, the entry will change to reflect that no matter how many you may or may no have turned in at that point.

Well I find it more worth it to pick "No reward required" when finding one. Find them all and you get one of the best weapons in the game for Hawke. yeah sure 30 silvers nice but if you pick "No reward required" you get 1,200 exp  which to me is alot more worth it.

High town <Korvals blades>
Lowtown <Weaponsmith>
Lowtown Night <rubble in foundry district>
Gallows <Weaponshop>
Darktown Anders Clinic <in a glowing box where Anders is>
Docks Night <Bones where harbor master area is
Docks Night <Master grade box. Rouge/Verric/Sebastion/Isabella with 40 cunning will open>
De Laucent Mansion High Town Night <Northeast room box, can be getable after convercing with family during ON THE LOOSE quest>
Wounded coast <Bone pile southwest side>
Wounded Coast <bone pile Northwest side>

this quest feels like a grind.. shame on you bioware for introducing simple quests like this. At least a a quest where you find a clue leading you to the next is better than randomly searching for the swords throughout game time.. ugh.

And then the only reward is XP/meager monies?

I was greedy, thus I asked for money and forgo the weapon.. or is the weapon so devastatingly powerful that it's worth the grind to get it?

You get a very good weapon if you don't accept money and turn all of the swords in. It is class specific and is arguably the best in the game (regardless of what class you play).
