Maybe? XD

I like it. It'll look classy next to my other one. GODDAMNIT ANDERS as I wait for a mod that lets me keep him and Seb.

I was openmouthed for a good three minutes and then I turned into Princess Stabbity.

He was always one of my favorite characters but I could not let him live seeing how justified he felt with killing the Grand Cleric.

My first reaction with utter and complete shock. Then I quickly became extremely enraged and started yelling, "Freaking Anders!" while I fought my way through the rest of the game. I could not bring myself to kill him. Since my Hawke and Anders were such close friends, and remembering my DA:O character being friends with Anders I just couldn't kill him. Although I regret making that decision since he killed so many innocents.

Now that I think about this, what would happen if you don't complete the Justice side quest? It wasn't a main plot mission if I remember.

Would he just go gather the ingredients and plant the bomb himself or would this change hmm...

It happens regardless, I've done this. Heard about what he does lagter in the game so I metagamed and purposefully did not finish it to see what would happen. Nothing changed.

I can forgive someone for doing a bad thing. (Loghain)

But I can't forgive someone whose reasons spawn from insanity and would blow up more chantrys if he had the opportunity, just to escalate the conflict even further.

I mean, would you really want The Warden to come back and see what his/her old friend has become?

My jaw dropped to the floor. But I was playing a blood mage so I did the victory dance.

And then my lady Hawke and him ran away like Bonnie and Clyde. Feels good man.

Well, from what I remember this happened. (Memory is a bit fuzzy, I was in shock!"
1: "Oh, Anders is chiming in this will be good- Why is he banging his staff down into the ground? Wait, what was it that I let him do in the chantry again?"
2: "Wait a minute, that's a red beam. red is generaly bad. Anders, what are you doing?"
3: The single longest, loudest and sincere "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" I've ever uttered.

Honestly, I though Anders was just speaking his mind, like he always does. I had NO idea that this was his big finale. There wasn't even foreshadowing (even though there was), so it was completely out of the blue to me. I was like ... wait ... what are you ... why is that ... ANDERS NO NO ANDERS DAMN IT ANDERS NO. And basically a lot of "goddamn it, Anders!!" for the rest of the game.

You know, this whole thing was foreshadowed. It's been said earlier that Anders says 'boom' in reference to the ingredients you gather, then when you distract Elthina while he plants it, she says something like "I hope you found a BALM for your troubles" to Anders, but the way she says it it sounds like BOMB. Kinda interesting there.

Ugh, Anders. He totally makes you help him, too. Remember when he asks you to gather "obscure ingredients" for him? One is drakestone, and I wasn't sure what that was at first, but the second (forgot the name) was described as some sort of crystal that you find in decomposing manure. and that made me wonder what Anders wanted with saltpeter, and THAT made me wonder if drakestone was maybe sulfur...
And then he wants you to help him get into the chantry for unknown reasons. GOSH THAT ISN'T SUSPICIOUS AT ALL.
My question is, how did Anders get the recipe for black powder at all, since the qunari are supposed to guard it so zealously?

I believe, in this, there is no wrong and right. Only what needed to be done. Or do you have an idea of what would have been the "right" path?

And my Apostate!Hawke totally ran off with Anders. She will find a way to give him peace, or die trying!

Actually, I'm kind of confused as to why his actions turn people against the mages in general; it does not, by any means whatsoever change what the Templars have done. It does not erase their brutality. It is what they've done to mages that drives Anders to this eventuality; I'd consider it more fathomable that folks who have already deemed mages too dangerous after to witnessing all the atrocities of blood magic would side with the Templars.

That's the problem, there really is no right way to go about revolution. I was just thinking of the fact that there were innocent people in the Chantry, so that's why I though that he went about it wrong.

The whole ordeal is so morally grey, it's hard to say what's right and what's wrong. :|

Anders deserves peace, finally.

I'm against mages, mainly because they're idiotic power-freaks. Even if i try to help the bastards they still go absolutly bonkers, and even the first enchanter resorts to turning himself into a Harvester, using the magic that Quinten used on Hawke's mother none the less. Still, if i sided with them, all i ended up doing was fight mages AND templars, because every one of them resorted to Blood Magic. the only SANE mages are Bethany, and the three that run up when you're annuling that tower up.

While I was helping him gather the ingredients I told my friend that Anders was acting all shady, like he was planning to blow the chantry or something. I THOUGHT I was joking. Then the damn chantry blows and I just sat there with my jaw dropped for several seconds. The words that came out of my mouth were "Oh Anders what did you do?"

Oh, no DEFINITELY. I agree. When you look back on it, but there's never a moment when the game recognizes that he is acting weird or might do something unusual at that time. Which is wrong. But still. I mean, they did a good job in making it a surprise. They could have easily done some camera pan to him in the background looking all angry, and then I would expect some crazy Anders **** to go down.

I was shocked, but it's preluded twice -- with Flemeth warning of major change, and at a certain point, Cassandra mentions Anders and Varric says "Don't remind me; remember, I introduced them."

Oh wow... I totally thought that Varric thing was about how flirty I was with him and Varric disapproving.  Way to be dense me!

I really wish I had the option to slap him and then have some sort of "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME, I LOVE YOU!" accompanied by a nervous breakdown.

Ugh... It was yesterday and I still feel... disturbed. Even worse I just couldn't kill him because he was right. It's worse if you have Sebastian too.

I completely agree with the slapping option. Even though I ran off with him in the end, I would have felt much better about that decision if I could have punched him in the face first.

I loved Anders so much in Awakening, and I found his plot line to be so incredibly interesting with this new direction. My female mage loved him--but she spent all of her time trying to bring actual justice. In that moment, there were no more feelings left toward Anders from me or Hawke except justice. He was killed. The situation was desperate and both sides had their faults, but Elthinia and the others in the Chantry didn't deserve to die. I'm not sure if I could not metagame when dealing with Anders on other runs. He's amazingly written, but... I just don't know. His usefulness now ends at saving my siblings in the Deep Roads.

I turned down the final part of his "Justice Potion" quest because it sounded really shady. He got really mad at me, but said, "It doesn't matter, the wheels are already in motion." Sooo I knew he was up to no good, but I didn't expect it was THAT bad.

Aveline also comments in banter that of all the mages she's met, she most expected Anders to go out in a blaze. Anders responds something like "The day is still young."

Out of all the people that let him live and/or had him as a love interest and ran off with him, how many of you were apostates yourselves? I didn't even really think about that. I played rogue and I still supported him to the end. Even if he went all viva la revolution on me.

GODDAMNIT ANDERS.

But I still support him. Anders wanted no compromise, because as Flemeth said: "Without and end, there can be no peace." Anders put an end to the First Enchanter and Knight Commander's fighting for the Mother's favor. Now, they can actually fight it out instead of relying on a neutral party for answers, or waiting for their silent god to intervene. It was a very extreme act, and an act of desperation, but I do not think the Mage's plight would have been acknowledged without it.

I agree with another poster earlier. I hope there is some sort of quest (DLC or DA3) that can remove Vengeance from him. In Awakening, Justice was able to leave Kristoff's body (epilogue.) I wonder if that would mean going into the Fade and convincing him overtime, or a spell...or Fenris reaching in, and yanking Vengeance out. The spirit is slowly driving Anders mad, I think. I would hate to lose him completely.

"Oh, wow... he just did that." As in literally, out loud. :P
I loved this plot twist. While I felt that the story as a whole in the game was a major letdown (not big enough for me! I want war!) I thought that this bit was AMAZING. I was so let down when Anders emotionally blackmailed my character into doing his stuff. He basically told her, "If you love me you have to love my convictions, too. And if you don't help me, you don't love me." So she told him, "Fine, but I won't forget that you blackmailed me to get your way." And then he did this, and it felt like such a betrayal.
Later, when Merill, Fenris, Anders, and Hawke are walking around, Merill says to Fenris, "Poor Anders. I think he broke what makes him most happy." Or something. So it was acknowledged in banter that Anders and Hawke were basically fighting then. That was AWESOME.
(The rest of that convo is really good, too. I had romanced Fenris first and he left Hawke, and Merill had destroyed the Dalish camp. Fenris went on to say something like that mages are good at destroying good things, so it was like he was rubbing it in that she had destroyed her own people. And Merill sadly says that mages aren't the only ones who hurt the things they love, as if to rub it in that Fenris left Hawke, too. Fenris answers with a begrudging agreement. In a game where I felt the interactions were a bit shallow, that interaction really hit home!)
But I digress. Point being this plot twist was awesome. It really got to me, and was the best part in a game that felt really bland to me otherwise.
