And here I was thinking that Anders was completely boring compared to his Awakening appearance.
I might have to give him another chance.

At first, I was in awe of the power displayed and mortified at what had just happened. Then, I quickly realized it was all Ander's fault and wanted to beat him to a pulp. Then, when I had the opportunity to kill him, I didn't want to, because that would be giving him the easy way out.

He doesn't even feel like Anders anymore though, they really should have made a new character instead of having an established character do a complete 180

And of course, the favorite quote from DA:O that was already mentioned: "Andraste waged war against the Imperium; She didn't write them a strongly-worded letter."

I spared him after the ****ery he did. I imagine my Lady Hawke beat the crap out of him after they were safe enough to run away. Don't lie to me again blowing up chantries or I will kill you for sure next time!
My Lady Hawke would've handed him the match if he'd let her
It was Anders who made her realize that his cause had been hers all along. As an apostate, she never liked the templars, but Anders' courage and dedication to his beliefs in the face of incredible adversity won her over.

I was annoyed that there was no hugging or kissing Anders, my LI, for the rest of the game, even when I said I'd run away with him. WTF? He just blew up the Chantry and thought I'd kill him for it. You'd think I'd at least get a kiss.

I hope we have some kind of quest later to remove Anders from the spirit of Vengeance. It has warped and twisted him, and mellowed him out way too much.
Me too! That's the principle reason my mage Hawke stuck with him. He loves Anders, couldn't bring himself to kill him, knows Vengeance is responsible, and now wants an exorcism. Here's to hoping for some kind of Witch Hunt style DLC (with more actual closure this time around, please).
Not me. What is happening isn't right. I love Anders and believe that what he and Justice are trying to do is the right thing. His anger while no action was happening is what warped Justice to Vengeance. I think that if action is happening or his anger lessens, he'll turn back into Justice. Spirits are emotion made real.
I made it one of my goals to take out the Chantry control over the mages whenever possible since the first game. Doesn't this bother you at all?
Mages are forceably removed from their families at a young age and never allowed access to their families again. You are an exception to this rule in every DA.
All mages are locked in a tower that can be turned into a genocide weapon if the templars think that the mages are possessed. They are designed for the Rite of Annulment.
All mages must pass a test (the Harrowing) where, if they take too long to complete it, they will be killed.
There are no windows to the outside world in their towers, lest they try to escape.
They are not allowed to go outside the tower except under heavily armed guard. Permission to go outside is rarely granted.
If a mage is believed to have broken too many rules, their emotions, personality and some level of self-control will be wiped from them. This is done rather than kill them because the Tranquil can enchant weapons for Templar use and they are used as a source of income. Tranquil are the only humans who can handle lyrium, which reduces the Templar reliance on dwarves. Their existence greatly reduces the outflow of the Templar coffers for enchantment costs.
Add to that the belief that there is a "divine duty" of the Chantry and the Templars to oversee mages and this entire situation isn't right. The entire Circle situation is barely held in check on each side by fear and that is a recipe for disaster. The problem created here is when you do repress people of power for too long, some will revel in it once they are able to do so.

Out of all the people that let him live and/or had him as a love interest and ran off with him, how many of you were apostates yourselves? I didn't even really think about that. I played rogue and I still supported him to the end. Even if he went all viva la revolution on me.
I had him as a LI as a sword/shield warrior. He got to watch my back a lot. :innocent:

In the end, I reloaded and spared him, because I figured if the rest of her crew had to put their lives on the line to fight the templars, he should have to as well. I would have liked the option to execute him afterward. If he had died in the fight, that would have been some redemption, but sparing him makes it seem like you support what he did.

One of the very first conversations with Alistair already revealed how the chantry uses lyrium to keep templars in check. That's not fanatism then?
From my perspective, a lot of people seem to have this situation upside down, thinking Anders is the terrorist. Templars seem to be doing far worse things than mages who are running for their lives just because they were born the way they are.
Why are there so many ex-templars or templars who help mages and question the Chantry's rules if they're so right in what they do?
Just waiting for some pro-templar to come and bash my head in *sigh*
Still, I've been thinking about this a lot since I would never have supported something which Anders does before but with DA2 and the whole setting...having just started a new playthrough as a mage to see it all first hand, I honestly don't see Anders as a terrorist. At all. He did what he did knowingly, fearing it will end up in her lover killing him on the spot. That's how well he knew how bad it was. I highly doubt he would jump up and immediately go build another bomb just because he supposedly got "off the hook".
The only thing left here for me to understand is that there will be war and I need to choose a side. Anders' deed is extreme but my Hawke will stand by him. She wants to be just as free as he does. God I love that character!

My Hawke was a rogue but I made her a HUGE mage sympathizer because of her sister Bethany and started being more pro-mage after the deep roads (I didn't take Bethany with me).
I asked my party what they thought though and Aveline mentioned I should make him help fix the mess he has caused and Merrill gave more pro-mage speeches while only Sebastian was gunning for his life. Varric was pretty neutral though he was pissed and all that made me feel somewhat better. I was sad I lost Sebastian though, my second playthrough I wanted to romance him but apparently you can't unless you kill Anders. Bawwwwl, I still can't decide if it was the "right" thing to do. Well Intentioned Extremist aren't ya Anders. Also my Hawke was able to get him to confess it wasn't a Justice ridding potion before the actual incident occurred so I felt a little less lied to.
I second the need for a banner that says "GODDAMMIT ANDERS"

Errr... did you miss the part where Meredith was in possession of an artifact that drives people insane? And also that he didn't just kill the Grand Cleric but also the many many innocent people who would have been in the chantry (I seem to remember a mention that the chantry educates the kids I wonder if school was in session, hmm... ) And also that all the mages and a lot of innocents died anyway? What Anders did was take a conflict in one city and create a world war. In the end it might make the world better but there will be a whole lot of bloodshed before that can happen. If it happens (maybe we'll just a see a return to the Tevinter Imperium)
Anyway, I thought it was pretty obvious from the beginning that JustAnders was not right in the head. But I romanced him anyway just to see what would happen. It was interesting, but I miss Awakening Anders.
It's not just a conflict in one city. It happens everywhere in the world. It was happening in DA:O. You have to choose whether or not to call the Rite of Annulment there yourself. This bit of oppression just happens to be made worse by the relic and Anders anger is worse by Vengeance, but the situation is already to the boiling point in Ferelden in DA:O. DA2 is the natural progression of ages of oppression. This is not isolated.

Not trying to flame, just sincerely want to understand how people took that. My mage romanced Fenris, but even though I'm curious about the Anders romance, I would find it hard to do it now that I know what's coming.

My PC wasn't. As a player, I was a little miffed, but it was understandable. My PC realized he was trying (however misguidedly) to protect her, and just sort of shook her head at him and called him an idiot. It was pretty obvious that explosives ingredients don't go into a potion.
Of course, like I said, she would've helped him knowingly if he had told her, so...yeah.
