Now...I started and couple hours in and..nothing feels right in my party!
The girl is shield/sword while I want her to be 2hd, the sister can't seem to be able to get the spirit healer spec, which is the suck, the dwarven rogue has no melee talent tree whatsoever and is stuck with berta or something...EVERYHING's wrong!
Is there a way to edit that crap? Change their spec somehow?

There is a potion that will allow you to redistribute attributes/abilities, but Avelline is locked into sword and sheild, and if any complainion is missing a tree you can't get it. The specializations like spirit healer, bezerker etc are only for Hawke. Varric will only use Bianca you can't change that.
Geeez, this is a nigthmare...How can Bioware go from BG to DA:O to....that?
Damn...
I mean...maybe they should make it so NPCs also play the game instead of me then and I'll just go watch a movie or something?
Anyway, thanks for the answer.

I miss rekitting Yoshimo as an Assassin instead of Bounty Hunter and making Jaheira a pure Fighter.Kemor wrote...

I don't. Being a druid is part of who Jaheira is. Jaheira is not to be ****ed with. Trust me.

I know. I was trying to be sarcastic. It apparently failed at its purpose.ishmaeltheforsaken wrote...

keep in mind the people you are using in the party have there own storys and it changes the way the fight, avline lost people close to her so she wants to protect the friends she has (tank). you will find another warrior that is 2h spec and there is a melee rogue as well if you want to keep the people you have in your party you have to use there fighting styles or replace them with the ones that work for you
I agree with you but i really just wish that the character specific specialization was added to the base specializations rather than replaced for a spec tree altogther.
I like the idea they are trying to convey, but at the same time it feels a little bit limiting, I believe I'm going to have to play through a couple of times to full grasp the specializations and to wholey undertand this new system but for right now it seems like they are trying to put a sprinter into steel legbraces.

Exactly. What I thought we would be getting were companions that simply had their own unique tree similarly to how Hawke has three. It's honestly not that bad though. There are plenty of skills to go around, and for the kind of role they assume you'll be using them as, there are plenty of available options.

but i made carver/fenris TANKS and they did perfectly fine. (well carver was half and half nad he got beat up alot, and i went full tank mode for fenris and he was pretty much as tough as aveline)
you can make aveline a damage monster if you want as well. just invest in vanguard and the offensive shield talents.
its not as limiting as it appears, i had the same kneejerk reaction to "wtf i can't make carver use a shield?" as you did.
in fact my biggest complaint is that Merril doesnt get access to healing spells. so i turned her into crowd control and debuffs, which worked out in the end

Mods, as usual, are our saviors. I found this mod that unlocks all normal trees for all companions so I can finally have Aveline be a damage dealer, Merril a healer and Isabella an archer or something.

Of course it might cause problems but I don't really see why and so far, haven't encountered any.
You'll need to start a new game once this is installed of course, or follow the console commands instructions to edit companions who are with you already.
Enjoy, I know I will!
Now..I just need a mod that allows me to equip armors on my companions, unlock tactical camera, allow full scale friendly fire in normal mode, slow down combat...geesh
