Hawke goes. Does stuff. Beats up a boss. Leaves. Varric shrugs. Cass and Lei shrug.
I liked DAII. There didn't really seem to be a strong story holding it together, but the individual pieces were fun- the confrontation with the Qunari, the likely loss of someone important, Ander's last stand, 'swooping' still being bad, Varric's imaginary confrontation with his brother, the way attitudes towards you change, the kickass mage armor, a few of the top bottles, the banter between Hawke's companions... actually, some pieces were even more then fun. Very well done.
Then there was that ending. That didn't even feel much like an ending. It's not even the cliffhanger that I mind: I pretty much expcted that things would end with Varric finishing with an "Champion's gone!", although I'd hoped we'd see Cass heading off in search of the player character. Still, I can accept it.
The complete lack of a wrap up is a bit less cool. All we know is that war has come, but there's no real finish to that. Your companions disappear in to the eather with no chance for you to say goodbye or see what they're planning on doing. There's no answer to whether or not your actions have helped or hurt the people you met. Nothing about what happened to the city and the people in it. Not even a chance to question Sandal about wtf he's doing. No real wrap up with your uncle. No answers why every mage in Kirkwall is a freakin' moron, even the ones who had seemed pretty cool beforehand. No consquences to being told that, say, there's an army heading to Kirkwall that's going to kill the main character's boyfriend. Just... rocks fall, everyone disappears, no answers.
The cliffhanger with the Warden and Champion both being gone feels like expansion bait, but that's alright. The rest, though- I mean, I can't imagine you're going to release an expansion for each companion, as they weren't all that well liked. Not to mention all the issues and dramas.
(You may have slaughtered a full clan of Dalish! With no response to it. Gah!)
Everything feels... off. I wish there was more of a wrap-up... some sort of denouncement. Or even ending slides ala Awakening (hell, like Fallout). I felt disappointed with the lack of any sort of conclusion.
What does everyone else feel?
Was there even an ending, there?

Same. Even after Cass and Lei started to walk off I was giddy because I wanted to see those little slides appear. One right after the other, so I could read about all of the wonderful deeds that I had done through out the entire story and how they changed the world. Nothing... Credits rolled and I cried myself to sleep.

yeah, it felt like only half of the game rather then a full story. like some thing was left out. i loved the game just wish there was more to it right now. but if the expansion is about say another 20 or 30 hour's of story and they do like 3 or 4 of them i can be happy with that. just a little more closure would have been nice is all.

It was a good place to leave off I think. Theres definitely a planned sequel here as long as the money is in it. Everyone is always sad when the game ends but theres a lto of excitement here and I seriosuly doubt this is the last we will hear from the warden and hawke they've truly set the stage for the characters to come out in a big way.
that being said dont be surprised if DA3 doesnt have either of them as main characters. I would love if if they wove the story into you unknowingly forging antagonist(s) for a epic conclusion. I always look at this series not in a way that we're here for the story of any singular person but using them as a vessel to watch a much larger story at play between a conglomerate of powers vying to shape the story of Thedas.

Obviously this is just a set up for 3, which really disappoints me as unlike in say ME2 we know where its headed...in 2 you're kinda like ok? I didn't like where it left off I wouldn't have minded them covering a little bit of the present or even the leading up to you leaving Kirkwall for somewhere...some decision. Just some general idea of whats going on outside of Templars have broke from the Chantry, and Mages are defying everyone...I think one more "year" would have been nice honestly or like I said some epilogue of "ok we need to gtfo now!" and maybe show how Varric was captured as he was obviously hiding as well.
Don't get me wrong lookin' forward to DA3, just can't wait for some extra added DLC missions for this game.

It paved the way for DA3, which will be interesting. We know the Chantry is in ruins, the circles are destroyed, mages and Templars are at war ect. It's the perfect opening for DA3.
