This is Merrill's new outfit after I rival-romanced her and she moved into my house in Act 2. The only thing I had added to her original outfit with the green scarf was an armor upgrade rune designed specifically for her called "Carved Buttons".



Has anyone else had their companions armor change on them?

Fenris gets a ribbon around his wrist if you romance him, I believe.

Aveline obviously changes from her leather apron to guard armor to guard captain armor but other than that I haven't seen any other changes (except for Bethany in the party screen where you can see her in her circle mages robes)

Bethany and Carver will change into Grey Warden armor as well, although Bethany's is more suited for a mage. Merrill's outfit is the first full body, completely unexpected change that I've seen. I'm not sure what triggered it, maybe it was from moving from the Alienage to Hightown.

After finishing Anders quest "Justice" he changes into a black version of his original robe

Wait, what? You can romance Merrill as a female? I was just going to romance Isabella, but didn't expect Merrill.

so is it true when you max Friend / Rival it will change our companion's armor looks?
Because so far I had maxed out friend with Varric and Aveline, but only Aveline has different looks (heavy armor with orange scarf)

My Anders changed to a Darker outfit. He was not romanced, and I don't recall how it was done.

Anders' outfit changed for me immediately after I finished the quest where you gather ingredients and distract the Grand Cleric, and I wasn't romancing him.

Bethany also changes armor. It has nothing to do with the Upgrade. The armor change is plot driven, the stat change is upgrade driven.

All four romance options (Merrill, Isabella, Fenris and Anders) are romanceable by either sex this time around.

I believe only Varric and Sebastion keep the same outfit the entire time.

I believe it is the EXACT same system as Mass Effect 2 ... Once you complete a companions quest they change their look ... I am not sure if you have to have them at 100% friend or Rival, but they do change their look.

It's a rubbish system that is boring and ruins one of the biggest draw cards or group RPGs, the ability to personalise your own character and their team. I'd like to see this changed in future games.

It would have been better if every armor upgrade you find actually change the appearance somewhat. Atleast I think so.

I didn't get Merrill to change outfits during my playthrough-- nor did Fenris get his neat little Hawke symbol. I only got Anders' new robes. Does Isabela get a new outfit too? I had her at max Friendship, didn't notice a change...

Isabella has changes outfits for me, components of it are black now with some red... But I romanced her. Perhaps some of the costume changes are based on romance, or on event in the story.

Whoa! Nice Merrill outfit. This is strange because I was friends with everyone and the only ones to change their outfits were Aveline and Bethany (Grey Warden)

I want to see Isabela's new outfit now

Fen gains a red ribbon braclet if you romance him, I wish there was more of a change though

Yep, every single Isabela quest, and every gift. I guess it's tied to romance.

I romanced her, did every single one of her quests and gave her, her two gifts and nothing. Talk about ripped off/ kidding

I wonder if it's a bug with the PC?
