I never played Jade Empire... what would happen exactly? The character would change sizes after a close up or something?

Yes actually they would, for example if you were to engage in the female/female option romance, during the kissing cutscene your PC would actually grow to the height of a male and be taller than your companion which I thought was funny because you actually are the same height throughout the game. There are others I'm sure, but that one made me raise an eyebrow.
Some games do fine with scaling (Guild Wars is an example; allowing a basic slider for height), but don't offer the same intensely close and active cutscenes that DAO will most likely provide. Clipping I'm sure would have been a great deal of concern.
It would be great if you could change the size though, males are never really big enough for me and the ladies are always lacking a nice thick body. That's just my taste though, really tired of being the generic, average build, slightly muscular looking male who has the all to common "one size fits all heroes" look. Too many RPGs and stories are written about this kinda guy with this build. Sometimes you just want to be the really big guy as the main character, not the sub character or the more commonly used villian type. That's at least a plus with Jade Empire, I got to be the big guy.

We already have dwarves and humans and such, and I am sure the developers didn't make the mid-game scenes with every character option seperatedly saying "ok male human, now switch to the dwarf and let's redo this" even if it seems as a funny scenario
So, I myself support the addition of body costumization, even non-RPG games like Saint's Row 2 (and that had a lot of cutscenes) have them by now, would be a shame to see DA fall behind

Everybody looks unhealthy. It's not like they can't make attactive characters check out the Desire Demon.

um, as a reminder, cut scenes do not depend on height since ages, neither in NWN2, nor in DA I bet

I agree with this even tho this isn't game breaking for me. I would like to make a fighter that looks like arnold, or something like that. Perhaps, an overweight warrior would be interesting as well.
I dunno. I think it would be a good thing, but I really dont care i guess. I would like bioware to come out and explain why it isn't in either way.

Saints Row 2 did not have Height Customization though

btw, my fav looks for mage is not the typical one, mine are in pnp usualy healthy and tough even if not strong, big one that is young, one normally would not think to be a mage, would have been great to atleast be able to make a high tower of a human male mage for my second walkthrough (my first one will be a sexy female city elf, thats an interesting backstory that i wish to check out and see how easy/hard it will be to play as the "average noble knight" in her situation)
