I am one of many (http://social.biowar...22248/1#6445828) who have recieved a glitch in this quest chain and can no longer continue with the game. I'm stuck at the part where you kill the slavers in Darktown, I killed them, the quest text says to search the bodies, bodies searched, all disappear and no update or quest item.  I've also opened the locked chest which had nothing of use inside.  Others are getting stuck on the "Samson" portion of the quest. I've done everything else possible in Act 1 and do not want to have to completely restart my character and spend another 8 hours of my life going through it again.  I've spoken with EA tech support and they were wholly unhelpful, I also submitted a ticket to Bioware's support staff directly.
So here are my questions: Has anyone else run into this bug? Has anyone rectified it?  Also is there a console command that will reset the quest (if so does anyone know how to find the quest ID#).  Is there a console command that will either advance or complete the quest? Is there a console command that can give me the necessary item that I was supposed to get off of the corpses (and how would I go about finding the item's ID#)? Can a Bioware rep please confirm or deny whether or not the cause of this bug is known and being worked on or am I just going to have to enjoy my $65 dollar coaster for the next two months until you guys figure it out?
Edit: I'm using the PC digital download version of the game from Direct2Drive.

P.S. I can't reload a save as I didn't realize at the time that this quest was bugged (thought the item was in the chest) so I went and did the other quests so that the rogues in my party could level and unlock standard chests. So I'm pretty screwed.

No one else is having this problem except for me and the people in the other thread?

I'm thinking about taking a stab at altering the .xml file for a separate file (still have a back up) and seeing if i can manually set the quest to complete. Does anyone know how to find the quest ID or could possibly hold my hand through this God forsaken process?

Exact same problem as unruly, killed slavers in Darktown, searched bodies and opened chest and that's where the quest stopped, unable to continue with main questline since Bartrand keeps telling me to clear up anything not done, everything else is done.

Glad I'm not alone. Here's my live chat tech support transcript:

Hi, my name is Victor. How may I help you?
Me: Hi
Me: I have a problem with a quest in Dragon Age 2 entitled "Wayward Son"
Me: It seems to be glitched and has brought my progress in the game to a halt
Me: It tells me to loot the corpses of the slavers to continue, but there are no corpses
Me: I've checked the area and everywhere around it and nothing
Me: So here's my question
Me: Is there a way to reset the quest using the in game console command
Me: or
Me: is there a patch or hotfix being worked on that will rectify this
Me: other people have been having the same glitch: http://social.biowar...22248/1#6450438
Me: so anything?
Victor: Please stay online while I look into your issue.
Me: okay
Victor: Thank you for your patience.
Me: anything?
Victor: At this time I'm afraid the cause of this is unknown. I have forwarded this along to our technical support department as well as the development team for further research. Unfortunately I cannot estimate a date when this issue may be resolved at this time. I thank you for your patience while we look into this further. It might be the Glitch or Bug. You can however submit your comment/idea about the games at our game forums. These forums are regularly reviewed by our game developers and is the fastest way to convey a game issue or an idea to the game developers. Our game forums can be found at the given link:- http://forums.ea.com
Me: so what do I do?
Me: enjoy my new $65 coaster?
Victor: Just post this on forums and hope there will be something soon.
Me: guess so. thanks for your help i guess
Me: no way to reset the quest?
Victor: You are welcome. Is there anything further I may assist you with today?
Victor: Sorry, at the moment we did not have this information as the game is new.
Me: is there a way to reset the quest using the dev console?
Victor: I am not exact sure about that. You can find some gameplay information at http://www.ea.com/tips/ Or you can visit our forums at: http://forum.ea.com/...ories/list.page to post your question there.
Me: I know how to open the dev console I just want to know if there's a command that resets quests. Can you have a dev email me the /runscript code and quest id?
Me: that would surely rectify the situation
Victor: We did not have any such option. You can find something on the forums for the same.
Me: Oh well see ya later Habeeb

Just got an email from them saying the folling:
"Regretfully we do not have information on if or when a fix will be put in place. They are however collecting data from the community and are examining solutions if they determine enough customers have the problem and the problem is technically addressable with a patch, or if a work around is possible. The development thread on this issue is http://social.biowar.../subindex/140/. Certainly development will use the information gathered to ensure that this problem does not occur in future releases, however it is impossible to guarantee that this will ever be fixed in the current version. If you are not interested in tracking this issue on the message board, please know that you will automatically be notified if an official solution to this problem in the form of a work around or patch is discovered." - EA Rep Andrew
Unless I'm mistaken the general jist of this paragraph A) stop bothering them, B) that they may decide to not bother fixing it and C) that they don't particularly care very much about their customer's issues.
None of this maybe intended by "Andrew" but to be honest it doesn't matter. This game shouldn't have shipped this way. Me and many other are stuck with glitches that should never have been included (glitches that were in the demo, THE DEMO! YOU KNEW FOR WEEKS). I don't know about you guys but I'm a perfectionist, if something I do is not done or the way it should be I don't let people buy it because I know it it isn't right and it reflects poorly on me. Again this is all my opinion but I get the feeling others agree with me.

Exact same problem.  Glad it's not just me.  I've read that you're supposed to go to the Wounded Coast next.  When I did that, there was a map marker in the Tal Varsoth (sp?) cavern.  When I reach it though, no one was there and the marker was on the exit.

I have this exact same problem.  He has the icon to progress the quest over his head, but he just tells me something about a Templar not being patient.

Same problem here. Can't go to expedition! I think this glitch triggers like this
1- Talk with the boy's father
2-Talk with the retired templar
3- Talk with the Templar searching for the boy
4- Loops back to the retired templar, while his dialogue is already "trigged" the information about the boy's whereabouts
5-The quest journal however understands that u still need to talk with the retired templar
6- Infinite loop =~(

So what's everyone doing? Just restarting? I'd have to revert to a save about idk 6 hours of play time back (from just before Deep Roads to the beginning of Kirkwall) and one guy in the other thread said that that didn't even fix his game D':

I'm having the same problem, this is so annoying and frankly I'm starting to get pissed off. My problem is that I can't loot the bodies at the docks, too. Everything's finished except that stupid quest and now I can't go into the deep roads. Why won't they let you abandon quests anyway?

The problem of this quest is to talk with more than 1 npc, I found a save before bugging ( but I lost 10h of gameplay to 2h gameplay save ), example: we ask location to the father of the elf boy and then we continue the quest, DO NOT talk with the templar Thrask ( it's him if I am not wrong ) otherwise the quest will bug, I recommned to people do this quest first to not have the same problem as me ... 10h of gameplay wasted because of this bug

Yeah I know, I've played for 14 hrs and now this. That's not the problem I'm having though, seems as though all parts of this quest is bugged. Are they gonna fix it do you think?

Maybe they'll fix it in a future release, but I doubt they'll even bother to make a work around for us that are already stuck. That's just the general jist I got from the EA Rep. My opinion though so I could be wrong.

I think I've found the bug.
When you have to search the bodies of the slavers... Well there's a fight just before it, in that area, with a named big bad guy and several normal enemies. I went straight for the big named guy and hit him with the Rogue ability Twin Fangs, which did a massive amount of damage and then all of a sudden he vanished. I thought it was odd at the time - he didnt die from it, but I paused the game to re target him to finish him off and he had just gone. I have a feeling this is the problem - he has probably got the quest item on his body, and he is despawning.

This is a MASSIVE fault Bioware. It's not just an annoying little sidequest, it is a main quest which needs to be completed. This is a completely gamebreaking bug and it absolutely needs to be fixed. It can be EASILY fixed on your end temporarily, by simply releasing a tiny hotfix which adds the necessary quest item to the chest, or puts it on the table there - anything. This would NOT be hard to implement - it's just placing an item in the game world, and I am sure you have tools for that.

Get it fixed!

Actually I think thats what happened to me as well, and your fix idea should work too, cannot believe no one suggested it sooner.

Having a tiny little prob there as well - it's just that I cannot loot the Reaper in the warehouse. He is actually shimmering but I cannot klick... strange but ignorable compared to the other glitch.

Running into the same problem, and cannot proceed into the Deep Roads until this is fixed. Highly annoying.

"Search the slavers' bodies for clues to where they sent Feynriel."

Searched the slavers I killed in the Darktown. Nothing. They've all despawned, and I'm completely stuck.

You NEED to fix this BioWare. This isn't an optional thing for you to do. It is preventing us from playing your game entirely!

Yep, ended the game for me as well when this bug happened - definitely not playing through the game for 8 hours again knowing everything that's going to happen.

That customer support was a joke, Joe the bartista could have given that level of support. Forwarding us to a public forum on the off-chance engineers actually can get through all these posts to give an acknowledgment much less decipher them then to find a solution is just insulting your customers intelligence. It's been 24 hours on a complete blocker bug and not even an acknowledgment. I wonder how long gaming companies are going to be able to put out games that aren't ready to be shipped before people simply give up on them and are forced to have proper QA and support by using some of the ridiculous revenue these games generate.

Bioware: Enable your users to fix their issues so they can praise you rather than making it a blocker for everyone who wants to enjoy and love your work you've spent so much time on.

Everyone else: get on your social networks and sites of choice and start informing folks about the problem. Give it visibility so something is done and late adopters don't waste their money until the game doesn't have any game ending bugs.
