Okay, playing through the Hadriana quest without Isabella worked. I'm now past that point and can't get this bug to happen. I've tried multiple combinations and variations but without Isabella in the party when Fenris throws his little tantrum, this issue doesn't seem to be triggered.

I suspect this only occurs with Isabella and Sebastian because they're the only companions whose friendship you can get that high so early. All in all, it depends on when you take the Fenris slaver quest but it does seem to get forced on you fairly early in Act 2.

So, no joy for you guys who've already had this bug triggered, but for everyone who hasn't reached that point don't take Isabella or Sebastian with you when you head for the Holding Caves.

In my experience, keeping Isabella out of the party seems to have completely avoided this bug. There may be other ways to trigger it but this worked pretty well for me.

If it shows up in spite of this, I'll post again. But for now, things look very positive that this may be an effective workaround.

There are other way to get it triggered. I am currently experiencing both speed debuff and negative damage resistance (for some strange reason it's at -8%) but I have completed Fenris quest in Holding Caves without Isabella and I have only ever Sebastian in party during his companion quests.

I got the slow-motion bug and the negative resistance bug. Started happening near the end of the game. I only really noticed it during Orsinos quest before the final quest.

I was able to fix it using the daosavegame editor

It's started for 3 in my family - but the actual slow bug doesn't seem to show up until the 3rd act, when you become a virtual snail. The Isabelle buff bug does show up (meaning, you have it when she's not in the party) earlier - I had it just after the Deep Roads. On the characters that didn't up her friendship, there's no problem. (I don't have the Sebastian problem because he's never in my party, but I *like* her & I'd hate to have to go back & leave her at neutral.)

If you have her maxed or high-friend (into the early 3rd Act) and just don't use her again, does the slow go away, or would you really have to restart & not gain friend? (Does this also apply to the rival buff?)

Yeah, apparently I am on the receiving end of this bug now... wonderful.

So I put Isabela and Sebastian in my party, disabled all buffs, checked my items to make sure there were no +attack speed or +DR properties, and used the savegame editor to change 42 (animation_speed_modifier) and 32 (damage_resistance) to 5 each-- is that the proper way to fix it? And to prevent it from happening again I need to keep them both in my party?

There seem to be so many little triggers that can cause them to reduce those stats, in the party, not in the party...only absolute way seems to be to not have them at max friendship so you never get the buff at all.

Best to just wait till this is fixed instead of constantly having to adjust it, they are on it though, just wish we could get a hotfix for this particular issue instead of waiting for a full blown patch for everything wrong right now.

The quest bugs and import save triggers and such I can live with, they don't detract from my enjoyment of the game and if anything will give the game a bit more replay value once they are all sorted, my character attacking in slow motion though means I haven't played the game for 3 or 4 days.

Nope it's the sebastiand frendship buff bug, the other half of the medal (with isabella being the other).

If you remove sebastian from your team you get -5% dmg resistance, then again and again with every swap ;/

Thanks. Sorry for not saying so before.

I've just started act 2 and something seems to have changed the bug for me. 'Thumb's Up' functions normally when I add/remove Isabela from the party (even on loading the save). However when I talk to Isabela without her in my active party (i.e. for the Questioning Beliefs quest) it bugs out again with 'Thumb's Up' permanently on my ability screen. It seems that as long as I only talk to her when she's in my party it all works normally now.

glad to hear that it wasn't just me! felt like wading through mud by the end of the game. the final fight was painfully slow; ended up abandoning hawke to focus on using the companions. from skimming the thread the best 'fix' at moment is not to have sebastian or isabela in party at all?

I tried everything, but the only thing that seems to work is to just not get them to the friend-buff level. I hope they fix this soon! Worse, I'm stuck on the Faith quest, which means Sebastian instantly leaps to friend level. I'm *trying* to insult him as best I can (which is easy - he's so smug) but it's not enough to evade his Buff of Doom. (figures! Next, he'll leave preachy pamphlets tucked in my door...)

I guess just not take the quest, or haul him around while offending him lavishly? I'll miss Isabella, though. I didn't think I'd like her, but she's really quite endearing.

It's awful to see my mage moving like a snail, and my poor little rogue just hobbles along behind the others in combat. Only the warrior escaped, by virtue of being the first, and having failed to endear himself to Isabelle. I was *just* about to go back to an earlier save and befriend her, but I guess *that's* out. Ugh!

I hope they'll let us know that this is going to be fixed, and soon. It's a pretty serious bug, and so far, everyone I know has experienced it.

Going to try rival them both next playthrough i guess. Hotfixes are lifesavers, but it does get tedious to check the values with the editor everytime party composition changes or a save/load is needed :/.

I wonder if there is a way to disable their friendship buff from being in game via .2da edit. Or replace it with rivalry one. I posted a request on the modding forum, so maybe someone would attempt :/

Yeah, I just hit the slowdown, and I'm too nervous to mess with the save file, especially since it'll just break again. It's amusing that rogues in slow motion still attack as fast as a 2-hand warrior, but I kind of really want to finish the game.

How's progress on the fix? Not looking for an ETA, just wondering if the problem has been located yet, or something.

It's been a couple days since they found the issue. I'm frustrated the game was released in the state it was in, sure, but I do understand they need time to jump through all the hoops to make changes.

Hey, maybe Bioware could petition for more time to work on their Dragon Age games. They seem to get it for Mass Effect. ;)

This one, here.

I unzip it, open daosavegame.exe, navigate to my most recent savegame, expand "party," select my character, look for the aforementioned fields and modify their values.

I've posted a video at the link below
that may help BioWare see what we are experiencing better than we can
describe.  It clearly shows the slow motion casting of Hawke while all
companions are moving at regular speeds.

*warning video contains minor spoilers (combat only, no dialog)*

LMAO, what's hilarious is that the animation for getting hit was still fine :D It's like, "If I'm dealing pain so slow, Maker, why must you make me feel pain normally!?"

Anyhoo, yes, same bug.

Definitely noticed it before the Qunari Crisis event (it really drove me nuts during the fight with the Arishok :P ). It probably happened earlier, but I just put it off as "me wearing heavy armor and using a big honking sword" thing, until I saw Fenris in action. Then I was all, "****g elf..."

I've only ever rezzed Hawke a few times in battle, I played in Normal difficulty.

Mephales, your save game editor completely saved my game. Act 4, and I would never have been able to keep playing with the horrible slow down! Thanks a million!

Someone has made a sort of stop gap for this bug and put it on the dragon age nexus, they have altered the buff so you actually get the rivalry buff for Isabela and Sebastian and set the regular buff to 0 so if it tries to remove any speed/damage resistance it won't but it's untested.

http://www.dragonage...ile.php?id=2299

If anyone wants to give it a go.

-editski-

Ok just checked it out, put it in the override folder in my docs and at first glance though I still seem to have Isabela's thumbs up buff the values are set at 0% so it seems to be doing what it says on the tin at least.

Just gonna have to try it for a while and see if my attack speed drops at all.

I just found this on DAnexus. It sounds amazing. But since I deleted my savegame out of frusttration I cannot really test it.
