Same one I just linked heh, I think it does work, at least in a preventative measure but it's more of a workaround since it doesn't fix the core of the bug.

I wondered a while back in one of my earlier posts if simply removing their buff would be a workable (if temporary) solution, looks like someone else had the same idea.

Well, this makes the game actually playable. If you simply don't use full set, don't care about the sketchy, "did not romance anyone" and the merrill dialogue bug you are pretty fine to play the game without altering your savegame all the time.

And since it's just a override data, it can be easily deleted when an official bug fix comes into play. I am just about to start anew rather happily :D.

I tried it, and it does set the value to 0, but my character is still moving slow. (you still have their buffs, but they just say 0 rather than 5)

You can edit your character back to full speed using the save editor though and this mod should prevent you from slowing down again.

Oh, ok - thanks. So this fix is basically preventative, and won't cure however much you've slowed over time?

Yes, exactly. Just read the description and you know everything you need regarding this bug fix/workaround.

No, never used any poisons.

Okay, we can cross that off the list then!

On a side note, this only affects your attack animations, correct? Ie. you can run at regular speed just cant fight or use abilities at a normal rate.

for me this affects everything hawke takes for ever to do one animation. a regular melle swing. takes like 7 seconds while everyone else is in normal speed zipping by hawke. this is game breaking as its making lose precious damage dealing time.and every second counts :/

im on hard mode.  for me this happend during the quest for orsino to find this hidden mage group in hightown. since then it has been perma slow hawke. i havent used poisons in a long time and i have no idea why its only hawke who is so slow. it cant be my graphics or game setup.

this is frustrating enough that i dont wanna play anymore.it takes hawk 5 seconds to crouch and then he scythes. my warrior is a 2h user. everytime im in combat he becomes ultra slow. everything else is fine. its only in combat he becomes super slow and thats what matters. i cant move to positions or attack ppl in time. it affects combat so greatly.

what i can remember doing is using haste buff on anders from that tree with heal on it. but i only used it after the fight was finished. i dont know what to do. reading everyone elses post doesnt give much insight.

If you edit your attack speed back to normal via the save game editor then try the mod we linked on the last page you may be able to play again, it seems to be working for now at least. I've jiggled Isabela in and out of the party, intentionally getting her buff to bug and my speed has not been reduced so far.

alright im using the editor

oh god... im looking at it and no wonder hawke is getting hit like a truck... his dmg resistance is   is  -45

his animation speed is -79

what im worried about is... well.. how the heck do i know what his real values are supposed to be? i put his dmg resistance as 0.  i was always wondering why hawke is getting hit like a truck by everthing and has such great gear. i been playing with a glass cannon... that swings really slow.

i dont like that i have to hack my toon to make it work. im doing it but hopefully bioware will make a patch.

I'm happy someone came up with a temporary solution, at least. My first play, I didn't notice this bug because I never got Izzy's approval up that high. My second play, I started using her more and really liked taking her around the town. Then the bug hit hard so I fixed it with the save game editor and never took her anywhere. Finally I'll be able to go through the game with her in tow and not have to worry about crippling my mage.

Ok, the default value is 0.0 but you have to account for any items you have that increase it, I have two 5% items so my modifier has to be set at 10.0.

The same goes for Sebastian's buff if you had him at maximum friendship, the default is 0.0 and I have two items totalling 5% so I set it at 5.0.

An easy way is to load up your game, remove any equipment, save, then you can just set those two values to 0.0 and let the game readjust as you get all your kit together.

looking@ my saves using the eidtor progressively i notice that progressively the
animation speed modifier gets - small number up to my current which is a really high number.. so the game is progressively making hawk slow and have no damage resistance? this is nutty.. theres so many responses here. im wondering how many people have negative damage resistance like me and never realized it.

also looking more at the values... it makes no sense i have only gained fenris's approval why is his value at 40? gosh bioware! everyone else is at 100 where they should be, i have done all friendship for everyone.

edit again:   it works,. hawke is now attacking at the rate i believe he should be. it made no sense why he got slower over time. i dont know what to say other than i hope bioware fixes it so i can maybe replay the game the way it was. i been realizing i been playing with a hawke that gets slower for no reason and had no damage mitigation. so i been playing gimepd for quite a bit of saves now. this makes me a bit upset :/

so the issue is beyond just animation speed, its dmg mitigation. lost friendship points for no reason. now i feel like I paid to beta test. The story the dialougue is all top notch, the combat is refreshing and addictive. the bugs are too numerous i found. this one in particular would have ruined the game for me if i didnt edit my save.

A kind someone put up a bugfix that replaces Sebastian's and Isabella's friendship buff effect with their rivalry ones. I don't think this fixes existing games (you'd still need a save edit to fix the negative values), but I'd prevent animation speed and damage resistance dropping in negatives again and new games should work without having to manually edit them all the time.

Going to give the nexus mod a try as I have not even finished one play through of DA2 because of this bug, it's rendered the game unplayable for me :/ hope the dev's can nut this one out soon!

After 2 hours of fiddling I've had no speed reduction at all over several quests with and without Isabela, the mod works as long as you adjust your speed using the save editor.

The 2 fixes are working for me - the L20ish characters are moving at full speed, all ok - seems to work!

Thank you so much for the great advice!

Well I have encountered this bug as well. What's the worst is that this bug seems to be stacking up the further you are into the game. I am at the end and can't finish the game. Quite frustrating. I hope BioWare could hurry up and fix this bug I'm sure editing the game with the save game editor and such works but I can't say I feel encouraged to have to mess with commands just to play the game. It feels like cheating my way out of the end.

It definitely stacks, yes. On one, my line 42 modifier was 40, and on another, lower level, it was 20. On a third, it was 5. On the bright side, this fix really seems to work.

Another question, though - after you've done both fixes, does it matter if you have Isabella in your party again? Will that mess anything up again?

This is a game breaking bug. Good thing for the modding community. I guess the consoles are pretty screwed though.

It took some time to realize Hawke was slowing down, but eventually he was just moving at a glacial pace. Found out I had -60 Attack Speed and -35 Damage Resistance (middle of Act 3). Fixed it with the mod and game save edit.

If I was on the console I would want my money back. This is an unacceptable bug that makes the game very difficult to complete and totally removes any enjoyment of combat.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't comment on this, since I'm not the one fixing it, but I also think a little explanation is deserved.

According to the last information I had, it seems like the Maker's Sigh, follower player bonuses, and item sets bugs are actually all symptoms of the same issue. The game saves out the ability list incorrectly, leading to corruption. Those particular bonuses are abilities, which is why they show up on your ability screen.

We are testing a fix. I haven't been able to reproduce it personally after the fix, and QA is testing more thoroughly.

The fix of making Thumbs Up have a bonus of 0 doesn't actually fix the underlying problem, it just makes it have no consequences.
