I really don't want to mess with a savegame editor.
Are you certain that by setting it to zero, you don't forfeit other modifications to speed?

I didn't find out about this bug until after I had Isabela as a friend and I was wearing parts or full set of a set with a bugged bonus :(

I'll be playing something else until next patch as well I guess,

If you set it to 0 when your character has no other speed modifying items equipped you don't forfeit anything, otherwise just set it to the value that reflects your items 5, 10 whatever. Then you can use the mod on dragon age nexus spoken about earlier to prevent it happening again till Bioware fix it.

An update would be nice - even just to mention that it's still in the works at all. I've seen a lot of bugs from EA where they just sort of abandoned fixing it entirely. :x

About the save editor, i didint had Animation_Speed_modifier, instead my ID 42 was Fire_Resistence, nevertheless the modifier was -55 so i changed it to 0 and it worked. in any case change all negative values to 0 in your character profile, worse it can happen is that you will lose a negative buff or something. i hope it helps.

The biggest reason as to why I'm hesitant to use the editor to alter the attack speed value is that when a patch does fix this, rather serious issue, it might remove the number of counters on you thus giving you a bonus instead, of course they might also just set the base speed back to 0%. As long as their fix won't just be a fix to make sure it doesn't happen any more, instead of actually also repairing the damage done. (Guess thats where the editor might come back into the picture hehe).

Presumably because they aren't just going for a hotfix, but an actual patch to fix more then just this issue.
Hopefully because they are working hard at trying to fix the issues.

Hehe me too:D

Ok I think I understand how to avoid this bug now... at best though, this is still only a way around it for those who don't want to meddle with editors and such (like me)

http://social.biowar...2/index/6646865 explains it (Thank you BloodyRaw)

Sorry if this is old news on this thread

I'd love to know why this is not on the major issues list. I know BW said they were looking into it but could we have a update please BW? I'm using the work around from nexus as I don't want to muck around in editor to be honest (many thanks to the author if you read this)

I have this problem as well. It was the first major bug I noticed in the game (besides the 30 sec freezes) as it is sooo annoying. I ended up "fixing" it by adding that one rune that increases attack speed. I hope they release a patch soon. I want my Hawke to be fast :-)

Posting just to indicate that I also have this problem.

I used the editor and the temporary fix that another poster used and the game was once again playable. Regardless, it is disappointing that a game-breaking bug could make it past testing. I've been a gamer since the late 80s/early90s, and not once has a game that I've played been completely unplayable because of a bug. Thankfully I have the PC version so I can fix this. If I'd purchased DA2 for my 360 I'd probably never buy another Bioware game again.

/disappointed

Edit: I also noticed this problem after (maybe even during) the High Dragon fight, which I completed near the begining of Act 3. I played a Mage, on hard, with Sebastian DLC, and noticed I always seemed to have Isabela's buff.

I also have this problem. I have played a mage and a rogue, I play on normal, I have resurrected Hawke using Regroup. My mage is currently in Act 3, the problem started in Act 3--pretty sure it started right after I visited the High Dragon, which I did completely by mistake as I had no interest in fighting it at that time.

I loaded a much earlier save in Act 3 and my combat is apparently normal. I am going to try playing over my previous saves and seeing if it doesn't start up again.

I hope there is a fix for this soon, seriously, because if I didn't already think I spent too much time playing this game, well, now I have to spend all that time *over again* just to regain what I've lost.

Considering Bioware's prior history with patching, I wouldn't get my hopes up for a fix anytime soon. Probably next month at some point. Way easier to just use the savegame editor and the fan fix.

Also, I have this problem. This is really annoying, BioWare. I can't play because my rogue doesn't have capabilities to attack in normal speed. Fix this. Without patch I cannot play >.<

Sadly that's probably true.

I stopped playing when this bug occurred. I was really hoping Bioware would patch it by now. Guess I'll have to use the savegame editor afterall.

I found a more permanat fix to the problem.
Using the Dragon Age Save game editor (daosavegame.exe)
Look for the Fire Damage Reistance value. It has an ID of 42. Seems Bioware changed the id values for stats and 42 is now Attack speed.
Youll notice that under modifier it has a negative value. Simply change that to 0 and save. And presto, Hawke has normal attack speed again.
Aint i just awesome. took me all 10 min to find and figure out how to fix..

Many, Many Thanks. It work for me!

This fixed my problem also. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to go about changing this value:

1. Open gff4editor.

2. Click on daosavegame.exe

3. Click on File, and then Open File.

4. Open: Documents ---> Bioware----> Dragon Age 2----->Characters------> [your character's name]----> Saves---->[whatever save you want to open - probably "Quicksave_1."

5. Open "Savegame.das

6. Click the "+" mark next to "Party."

7. Click on your character's name

8. Under the left most column labeled "Id," scroll down until you see the number 42.

9. Next to the 42 is the title "Animation_Speed_Modifier," and next to that, under the "modifier" column you should see a negative value (mine was about -42). Click on that and change it to 0.

10. Click on File, and the Save. That's it!

In step number nine, the modifier should be set to the sum of all attack speed buffs on your character at the time of your save.  If the "thumbs up" buff is showing on your abilities screen (even if Isabella is not in your party) the +5 for this should be added as well.
