The duel in Act 2 was tough, now I know why.
I'm using a 2h and getting serious hang time on Mighty Blow.
trying to use whirlwind the I lose all aggro and enemies run off before it swings.
I have to shelve it at this point, until there's a fix.
This is why I need to stop buying games on release.

I've been in love with Bioware games since KOTOR but a major bug like this is just unacceptable.

Thanks for the tips on the Nexus fix and the save editor. Back to quick/cool mage action again.
Love this game. The other little glitches and bugs have not put me off at all. This one, while it was easy to fix (thanks to a wonderful modding community), is pretty dumb from a programming standpoint.
Bioware gets -1 point. Minus one more for not having it on their "major issues" list.
For folks just discovering this, like me, here are the links again:

You will need an extractor for the second one.

What happened is this:
1.) I received the Quest "Isabela's Ongoing Search" in Act 2 and went to the Hanged Man with Isabela in my party.
2.) Being aware of the bug, I removed her from the party before talking to her.
3.) Then I did the Quests "Isabela's ongoing Search" and "Questioning Beliefs" saving multiple times in between but NOT reloading as far as I remember. These two talks with Isabela pushed me to about 90% friendship with her, in other words, well within range of the friendship bonus.
4.) After the conversations I left the Hanged Man, saved again and reloaded. The consequence: I do receive Isabela's friendship bonus although she's not in the party and I actually get the +5% attack speed(checked with savegame editor).
What went wrong? How can I avoid this except for not pushing her affection into friendship levels?

Bizarrely the Isabella bug didn't used to happen to me but now it does. Haven't a clue what the trigger was.
We're under the impression that a main cause of this is the Friendship buff in conjunction with the Maker's Sigh issue where passives are breaking.

how did something like that get past QA? seems like they'd be expirmenting with different builds and character combinations alot to look for bugs and this is specifically caused by that.Luke Barrett wrote...

(ON PC)
1. Download the gff4 editor 0.5.3.7z from here: http://social.biowar...ect/1936/#files
2. Go in game and equip an item that adds to ATTACK SPEED. <- THIS IS RECOMMENDED OR ELSE ANIMATION_SPEED_MODIFIER MAY NOT SHOW WHEN YOU GO INTO THE GFF4 EDITOR
3. Make a save of that and then a QUICKSAVE -> press F5 to make a quicksave
4. Exit the game and look for the quicksave file under your character under biowarae under documents.
5. Open the .das file within the quicksave for your character that you just made. It should be something like Username -> Documents -> Bioware -> Dragon Age 2 -> Characters -> "Your Character's Name" -> Saves -> QuickSave_1 -> then click on the .das file (there should only be one)
6. Once it is open with the gff4 editor (which will be called the Dragon Age Origins Savegame Editor, but you can still use it for Dragon age 2), look under party, then at the stats of the abbreviated name of your character
7. Look for something called Animation_Speed_Modifier
8. Change the base value to 0.0 from what should be a negative number if you have the Isabella Virus for normal attack speed - if you want the attack animation and attack speed to be faster than normal, make it a positive number of say 10.0
9. Console users, sucks to be you. PCs FTW

I skipped from about page 11 of this thread to the end, so I may have missed some important info. In any case, I did get a slowdown on my rogue Hawke, which I noticed during the Dual with Arishok, in honor of Isabela. My Hawke is friends with both Isabela and Sebastian--100 for each. Never used or purchased the Maker's Sigh. Ever.
I gave up on the Dual, as it was unplayable, and fought group melee instead in a reload. I haven't really noticed the slowdown since, perhaps once, but I don't recall where--but I'll keep an eye out for circumstances and particulars and report back if of interest. I do think that switching from Hawke to a party member seemed to make the slowdown not a factor, but that could simply have been because I was no longer watching (like a?) Hawke. I have had Sebastian and Isabela in my party for most of my Act 3 so far.
Edit: So the slowdown IS occurring more often, I simply didn't notice because I always have Anders caste Haste; likely I noticed it in the Arishok dual because I was Hasteless for the first time!
I have used Mythal's favor, Regroup, the darkspawn Elixer (forgot the name), most poisons (except Fell), Tar Bomb, Combustion bomb, and I may have used an attribute potion earlier in the game, but I don't recall now. I also purchased the Heroic Potion, but haven't used it yet. I did "take" one Forbidden Tome, and destroyed others. Don't know if any of that is helpful. I had one armor set bonus earlier in the game, but I forget which set it was now.

Wow steven, you're like my parents when it comes to computers
Also, as Wobble55 said, if you have buffs to attack speed (like Isabella's passive friendship buff), make sure to add that to the value. So, instead of making the value 0, make it 5, or whatever your total attack speed value is.

HOW TO CORRECT ATTACK SPEED/ANIMATION SPEED ISSUE IF YOU HAVE CONTRACTED THE ISABELLA STD

The part I bolded is why some people couldn't find the "Animation_Speed_Modifier." Nonetheless, the only name and number that matters is the left-most column called "Id," and under that the number "42." What the name is next to 42 is inconsequential. In the same row as the 42 is a value under the "modifier" column. It will be a negative number if you are experiencing this bug.

Just found this thread as I'm having the same problem since yesterday night. Worked fine before.Peter Thomas wrote...
Ok, maybe I shouldn't comment on this, since I'm not the one fixing it, but I also think a little explanation is deserved.
According to the last information I had, it seems like the Maker's Sigh, follower player bonuses, and item sets bugs are actually all symptoms of the same issue. The game saves out the ability list incorrectly, leading to corruption. Those particular bonuses are abilities, which is why they show up on your ability screen.
We are testing a fix. I haven't been able to reproduce it personally after the fix, and QA is testing more thoroughly.
The fix of making Thumbs Up have a bonus of 0 doesn't actually fix the underlying problem, it just makes it have no consequences.
Playing a rogue, problems start in act 3.
I'm pretty sure my problem started after using a potion from the Black Emporium to add an extra level to all my characters. I can't pinpoint it, though... I'm 99% sure I used Maker's Sigh in this game, but that would have been during act 1 or act 2, certainly not act 3, and certainly not right before my problems started.
Hope this helps.

(As far as I can tell, using the editor to correct values COMBINED with the dragonagenexus override keeps things straight. It is not ideal, doesn't technically "fix" it, but seems to get the job done.)

I did never use any potion, on her or any other companion, but the bug happened anyway.
I checked the saves, and I had it reloading any save from Act 2 onward. Probably it happened when she left the party after some personal quest or when I tried to enter the qunari compound.
