I found a more permanat fix to the problem.
Using the Dragon Age Save game editor (daosavegame.exe)
Look for the Fire Damage Reistance value. It has an ID of 42. Seems Bioware changed the id values for stats and 42 is now Attack speed.
Youll notice that under modifier it has a negative value. Simply change that to 0 and save. And presto, Hawke has normal attack speed again.
Aint i just awesome. took me all 10 min to find and figure out how to fix..

I've just encountered this problem.  Unfortunately, I'm too computer illiterate to be able to find thed "daosavegame.exe" program.  Can you give me a more complete string?  I've gone through my basic game files with the exe programs, but cannot find that one.

Also, am I correct that I have to correct this problem in the Dragon Age Origins game files rather than the Dragon Age 2 game files?

I'd really appreciate more info on this.  Thanks!

Edit:  I did some googling and realized that this is a separate trainer.  I downloaded it from the Project 1936 site, and unzipped it.  But I still can't get it to work.  When I click on the "daosavegame.exe" it comes up with a black screen that says "no data".  Was there an installation step I missed?  I'm terrible with this stuff. You got it so far, now you just need to click "file" and open the savegame. if you don't know where it is you can search your computer for *.das

The save game editor is here: social.bioware.com/project/1936/#files
You need to download and unzip that, then run daosavegame.exe.  Go to the menu and click Open File.  The save file will be in C:Users[your username]DocumentsBioWareDragon Age 2Characters,  You'll need to find whatever slot your last save is in.  Open it, and go down to Party and click the plus sign next to it.  Select whatever you named your Hawke.  There will be two possible problem areas (for the friendship bugs; I don't want to think about how many problems there could be from armor sets).  Damage_Resistance (ID 32) and Animation_Speed_Modifier (ID 42).  If those are negative, reset them to zero.  There are also some workarounds available here: www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php , but they're not really ideal.

Thank you so much!!  I was able to reset my damage resistance from -35 to 0, thanks to your instructions.   This should keep me going until Bio releases a hot-fix or a patch for the problem.  I do so appreciate you taking time to give me neophyte details that I was confused about.  *hugs*

Any update yet as to whether the patch will be retroactive, or simply stop the problem from happening from the time the patch is applied?
The problem is that the data itself is corrupted, and you can't un-corrupt data really, just re-calculate the values, based on character level etc...
Fixing the animation speed modifier is no problem, but how about attribute points that have been lost? How are they going to fix that? (You can't simply recalculate based on level because some people will have more attribute points than others due to plot choices etc..). In order for the patch to be effective at restoring correct attribute points etc... it will have to check all the plot tags right?

Restoring corrupted stats is going to be such a mess that I honestly doubt we might get anything besides a reset of our attack speeds and damage resistances. If even that.

That's why I don't like how character stat modifiers are handled by default in most(?) RPGs.

EDIT: Wait. Do the bugs that give base stat penalties affect the actual base stats or the base stat modifiers? If it's the latter, it might be easier to fix the stats.

I hope they have included this in the 'PC Major Issues List', because I didn't see it there...

I have the same issue. Warrior Hawke, Nightmare, used Maker's Sigh but not any sort of revival (as near as I can recall).

I first noticed it on the auto-charge Warrior Hawke does. Instead of being instant, it's sort of a sluggish frame-by-frame. And then he swings around like a 90 year old with severe arthritis.

Started a new warrior game to check and the difference is highly noticeable, both on the auto-charge and on the weapon swing speed.

Can we get a confirmation if the patch fix will be retroactive? It would be a goddamn pain to have to finish the game with him like this, not to mention terribly annoying.

for whats its worth, i thought i would add one little pebble to the swelled and raging river that is the slow attacking problem to see if the little ripple would make enough of a difference to get bio's attention for this issue.

i cant finish the game now with my furthest character and now i have to wait longer until bio patches... wow, this is a bummer... i finished DAO in the 1st week, lol. now i just want to finish this play through so i can move on with my alts...

Just want to clarify that while editing the save game works, it's still temporary. You may still need to go in every now and then and "correct" the values. But thanks to the folks who figured that out. Tried finishing the game with the attack speed I should have and it made things easier.

Hi, I tried that save editor a few times and it didn't work well for me. It corrupts my files and makes em unloadable by my game. I get a Spanish error msg telling me I don't have the DLCs (which I do but not in Spanish). Am I the only one encountering this?

I restarted my character and shortly after entering act 3 i started to see the slow animation bug in fight scenes again. KUDOS to ParastieX for a work around and all other responses from DA 2 fans to help me understand how to use the gff4 editor to make DA 2 playable in Act 3 . :)

The save editor worked for me, thanks for that fix. I noticed just now when I started up the game that my Hawke was freakishly slow ... earlier today, she was moving just fine. I think, at least. But apparently her momvement speed was at -38 ... and here I thought that I'd had the luck to avoid the Isabela bug >_>

Is there a way to remove the approval from Isabela, so you don't have to edit every time? I tried the console's zz_isa_debug and zz_app_debug, but neither seems to actually remove her approval.

I'm having the slow motion bug for the first time at Mine Massacre, act 3.
I don't want to use any editor to fix that mess and make my game playable. You guys have done a good job searching for the whole community, but Bioware owes us a fix and i hope it will fix old saves, i don't want to start over from the begining.
I was a bioware fan for years, till this month. The lack of seriousness on DA2 and Mass Effect 2 Arrival is very frustrating...

Bioware, My understanding reading through this and other threads is that you will *may* give a general update on the progress of the patch today, Friday 01st (from Luke Barrett, one of your mods). I know you won't give us a date, but could you at least let us know if the patch will be retroactive? That way I can decide whether to proceed with my game, or start fresh and stop before befriending Isabela to await the patch. Thanks.

i cant believe there isnt a hotfix for this... or at least a "hotbreak" that turns off isabella interactions... i wonder what ratio of PC users have been able to complete the game without running into this issue...

no as it doesn't apply any bonus to your character, but people seem to be having issues with any bonus that applys to your character like the friendship bonus to speed ect , complete amor bonuses, the makers sigh potion and I think the revival potions?

you can either use the da save game editor that has been linked to get rid of the minus speed stats that has been linked two pages back I think or the mod on nexus which just stops the friendship bonus applying (link also a few pages back I believe)
I use the nexus mod and used the gamesave ed to fix previous character stats that got effected (the mod will not fix old characters with it hence the game save ed but it will stop future character effects until a patch is out)

Hope that helps

Gonna weigh in, I didnt play Dragon Age II til about 2 weeks after it came out. because I was still busy playing through Dragon Age Origins again to have a imported save file where I didnt kill every thing and every one :)

Loved Dragon Age II, the haters are just wrong, I love the free form mercenary questing, don't mind the reused dungeons (although some palette swaps would have been a good idea). The combat is improved, graphics, soundtrack, love the cast, really digging it.

This bug has stopped me in my tracks, prbably logged 30+ hours in 3 days and now I havent played it for 3 days cause I got the bug. It isn't even debilitating yet, I think I am probably at -5% attack speed, cause it isn't noticable, but I know it has started.

I am not gonna play the game dancing around a bug, I want this fixed now, should have been fixed weeks ago. Hotfix it, disable Isabela and Sebastians bonuses entirely, no one would care. This is just awful, can't think of any other game I had to actively stop playing because it was so broken. And I have been playing games nonstop since the NES. Sure there are games that crashed a lot, but I can't even play this one because the bug won't allow me to play in the manner I set out too.

Fix it!

Ehh, counterpoint, even if you don't mind the reusable dungeons and all that, that's less a matter of preference, honestly. It's understandable to enjoy the freeform mercenary stuff over the epic questline, I like it better myself. But reused dungeons is a cost-cutting, time-saving measure, and I'm hesitant to encourage that. There's nothing else that could be. No one ever thinks, "this game would be better if it reused the same environments".

Bioware has proven they have the resources to avoid copy-pastes in ME2, and (yes I know it's a different team but still) admitted that the copy/pasting was a gigantic problem in ME1. The copy/pasting is even worse in DA2 as in ME1 the areas you visited on the main plot were all unique. The game takes place in Kirkwall, though it only ends up taking place in 8 locations in Kirkwall throughout 50 hours of gameplay.

Game's a 6 or a 7, but could've been a 9 or a 10 if it had more time. A 7 isn't bad. But cost-cutting shaving off the perfect touch to get a perfect score is frustrating, y'know? Makes the difference between the game's criticism a bunch of nitpicking, and a bunch of real flaws that bring down the quality of the entire game.

Plus, it's broken, can't play it., haven't been able to for 2 and a half weeks I think  That contributes. :P

This bug is avoidable - don't become friends with Isabela and Sebastian in the first place - the problem with that is that you won't be able to get the level-up potion...

Uhhh still waiting for a patch, haven't been playing since I'm not sure how the quick fix will be affected by the patch. Update soon Bioware?
