I'm not aware of the commercials but that's an excellent point. I'm in Hanoi, Vietnam, and probably amongst about the 6 people in a population of 84 Million who decided to pay the full price for this title rather than go the shop 200 metres from my house and pay $2 for an equally functional ripped copy.... I'm bringing this up to highlight to Bioware that I'm aware of your intelligent marketing tactic of providing in-game bonuses to legitimate purchasers.
Making a broken game that only functions properly a month after release makes you lose your market edge against people who are not willing to buy a pirated copy sans in-game bonuses (which are inevitably hacked one month later) and can easily buy/download a pirated version if there's no extra incentive (most of the world's 6.7 Billion people fit into this category). If you can't give me a more functional game for $60 on day 1 than what I can buy down the road for $2, where's my incentive to pay full (indeed, a premium) price? That's the sad truth, which I'm sure you are aware of, especially in a developing market.

It's gotten to the point where I want compensation. I prepaid for the game and it's almost April 7th, one month since I started playing, and, oh, three weeks since I haven't been able to finish my file.

If April 7th passes, I will actually find a contact that would work and ask for it. I didn't get what I paid for and what was advertised, pure and simple.

This has started happening to me recently, getting towards the end of the game. My main char gets stuck in slow-motion while all the other party members are normal.

ATI Radeon HD 5770 1 Gb (11.4 preview drivers)
Creative X-fi fatality xtremegamer soundcard

Game is set to High, 2x AA, 8x Anistropic, Fullscreen (all other options disabled)

I actually just found out about this last night. It hasn't taken a hold of one of my save files yet. However, considering the fact it seems to be almost imminent, I suppose I will put my game on hold :<
I just got Isabela to max friendship, so....I'm holding waaaaay off until there is a fix to this terribad bug.

So, please....FIX THIS ****. I WANNA PLAY MY ****ING GAME.

Thanks for the save game editor. Running it in Mac has been no issue too. Yay :)

SM, that's a really great point, too.

Hanoi, huh? I never made it up that far. The closest I got was Nha Trang. But then, travel was a lot more diffcult in those days; 1969.

LOL

I've thought about going back for a visit. It sure was some pretty country.

Haha yeah 1969 wasn't a particularly good year for Nha Trang.
A friend of mine was a gunnery officer on a naval boat that year, he had some pretty hair raising stories.
It's a beautiful city now though. You'd have a good time!
Anyway I don't mean to hijack this thread, I just wanna rephrase what I said above because I don't think I communicated it clearly,. Bioware I hope you read this:
Having an online distribution platform (Steam), a decent online price and in game bonuses for legitimate purchases makes the game convenient and incentive driven enough to actually consider paying retail price for, in a country where even the Government uses pirated software and its actually impossible to buy legitimate hard copies.
It is absolutely critical though that the game works well from day 1, because 1 month after release pirated copies inlcuding DLC will be abundantly available. If the game doesn't work well immediately, and a culture grows (as it has in the past) of waiting for 1 month in order for the game to "mature" and be patched to working order, then the game has to compete with pirated versions which are available for free.
This may be less applicable in the states, where piracy may actually be occasionally punished, but in a country such as Vietnam, making a day 1 broken game completely wipes out the narrow advantage of a legit purchase.
/end rant

Not sure whether it happened to others (didnt read the whole thread). But, for me, the enemies were attacking in slow motion sometimes.

I have experienced this problem. It was just the Qunari who were automatically slow. Although since I was a force mage, and had my companions spamming ice attacks and fatiguing fog, it didn't change my gameplay much. I thought it was what  TVtropes.com calls a "Good bad bug". B) I also thought that I was getting a free attack speed buff from Isabella, oh well.

Anyway, I started a new character. I saw no signs of the bug, until I got to the deep roads, and found that I've got "Thumbs up" without Isabela in my party. My character is an archer, and doesn't seem to be slowing down so far, though.

Realy...? This still isn't fixed? I'm actually quite amazed at this, as this is quite a serious bug. So what's the deal? is there a lack of attention to this problem, or do they simply don't know how to solve/fix it? I admit, the game is playable with the save edit thing, but it's starting to get realy realy annoying -_-

Well, good to know I'm not the only one with this issue. I'm in the third chapter and had it happen to my rogue. I did notice though that when Anders casts haste on the party my rogue will go to haste speed, but once the spell wears off, back to molasses. When I summon the Mabari War Hound and my character does the weapon twirl it's in slow motion. Seems like any animation with weapons causes the slowdown, except for sheathing that's normal speed. Really kills the game experience to play to nearly the end and have the main character become useless.

Well, I've started up a new character, an archer this time. And it's happened again! Early in Act II. It's funny to watch actually, because you hear the arrow firing, and then a few seconds later, there it goes; it's like a missile locking on!

I found a more permanat fix to the problem.
Using the Dragon Age Save game editor (daosavegame.exe)
Look for the Fire Damage Reistance value. It has an ID of 42. Seems Bioware changed the id values for stats and 42 is now Attack speed.
Youll notice that under modifier it has a negative value. Simply change that to 0 and save. And presto, Hawke has normal attack speed again.
Aint i just awesome. took me all 10 min to find and figure out how to fix..

I've just encountered this problem.  Unfortunately, I'm too computer illiterate to be able to find thed "daosavegame.exe" program.  Can you give me a more complete string?  I've gone through my basic game files with the exe programs, but cannot find that one.

Also, am I correct that I have to correct this problem in the Dragon Age Origins game files rather than the Dragon Age 2 game files?

I'd really appreciate more info on this.  Thanks!

The save game editor is here: social.bioware.com/project/1936/#files
You need to download and unzip that, then run daosavegame.exe.  Go to the menu and click Open File.  The save file will be in C:Users[your username]DocumentsBioWareDragon Age 2Characters,  You'll need to find whatever slot your last save is in.  Open it, and go down to Party and click the plus sign next to it.  Select whatever you named your Hawke.  There will be two possible problem areas (for the friendship bugs; I don't want to think about how many problems there could be from armor sets).  Damage_Resistance (ID 32) and Animation_Speed_Modifier (ID 42).  If those are negative, reset them to zero.  There are also some workarounds available here: www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php , but they're not really ideal.

When I download that I get a "gff4editor-0.5.5b.7z" that I can't do anything with.  There is no option to unzip it.

that's a 7zip file. Download 7zip extractor here:: http://www.7-zip.org/
Once you extract it, run daosavegame.exe
Open the save game under my documents>bioware>dragon age 2>characters>(your character)
Select your main character from the list
Go to line 42 and change from a negative value to 0 or 10.
save before you exit

console politics, i.e.- patch cert from MS and sony is what is fugging us PC gamers over. bio seems to always put out a beta patch at the very least if we have to wait a long time for an important fix, but for some reason theyre basically MUM on a GAME ENDING bug for the PC. thats not like bio at all!!!

im so fed up with waiting for a fix so i can continue to play my game.

Thanks.  The download page said that no additional files were needed.  Didn't mention I needed a special unzip program haha.  Jeez, my attack speed was -49.

At first I found this bug somewhat amusing but it's really getting frustrating now. The damage doesn't apply to the enemies until the animation has completed so the slow-mo attacking is greatly affecting my character's usefulness in combat. My main character happens to be my primary source of dps (or at least he was before the bug) so it's making battle's a lot tougher. Not to mention if my character is stuck in the path of a trap/spell he doesn't respond normally so he takes way more damage than he should.

Really hope the upcoming patch is going to resolve this issue, although I may have finished the game by then. Still on the fence of whether I want to even bother with a second playthrough or not.

Ok, so apparently this happens even when Isabella isn't in my party? I just checked my most recent save and it was back down to -10. What if I change my friendship status with her from 100 to 0? Would that stop this from happening? Or would that cause a lot more bugs due to having gone through a romance with her while her status was at 100?
