Uninstalling the game and removing the save game folder and moving it back after reinstalling does nothing.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was under the impression that this was affecting all saves once it happened (a systemic bug) but that does not appear to be the case so don't worry about doing the re-install like that.

For those of you willing to spend time trying to figure out this issue with me, please try going backwards through your save library until the issue doesnt exist and see if you can figure out what changed between that save and the next one (and let me know where that was in the game)

Thanks for all the responses, everyone! Unfortunately, given the data it looks like none of those things are consistent across all users so back to the drawing board. Given that haste seems to alleviate the issue it seems your characters are somehow being locked in to having -attack speed% from something. On a side note its not PC specific as I'm seeing reports of this on Xbox as well.

My next question is if you were, at any time using the poison that has an attack speed debuff attached with it (sorry I cant remember the name off the top of my head) [thanks to 'msmpsn' for the suggestion]

Also, can anyone confirm that this occured before the Qunari Crisis quest where you fight the Lunatic Elf in the side streets? (where you disable the gas barrels)

I tried timing the attacks again for various saves before and after the Lunatic Elf fight. While I thought I could feel some slowdown before, the first time it is measurable (using my crude method) is the first save after that fight. It does however worsen afterwards (during the remainder of act 2 and act 3).

While it almost feels slower trying to go back before the Lunatic Elf fight, it is also not actually measurable from what I can see until after/during that segment.  Also, walking does not cause slow down but the animations for things like the Rogue jumps/rolls/ect are slowed, not just the weapon swinging.

Thanks for checking for me. So, has anyone ever seen in act 1 or before this fight? Perhaps it's occurring in this combat sequence and then it progressively gets worse based on something like Hawke dying and reviving or even simply loading the save.

Until this is fixed, I'm starting from the beginning as warrior and building my character specifically for tanking so it doesn't matter if he deals any damage at all. The quality of this game on release has sorely disappointed me. I am surprised that Bioware could even consider releasing a product this buggy that clearly required more testing. The name Bioware is often synonymous with quality. I'm simply astounded that I bought a game from Bioware that ended being unplayable.

I'm sorry.

I've made another post before seeing this one, but my other post just stated that I seem to figure it out for my rogue. For me at least, it seems to happen in Act 3 after talking to first enchanter Orisino during the main quest Best Served Cold. From that point on, my rogue is like half attack speed or less. I'm going to replay as a mage and see if it's consistent for all classes although the devs are probably going to figure it out before I get to that point. Hopefully you guys can fix it.

Can you confirm that if you load your save before talking to orsino for Best Served Cold and go to say Hightown Night that your combat speed is normal? And if so talking to him and going directly to the same combat and see if its slower.

For me, the bug became noticable near the end of Act II.  I cannot discern any specific trigger, unfortunately.

So, I retraced my saves and it turns out that for me, it was the fight with the Ancient Rock Wraith in the Deep Roads expedition that caused the issue. Every save before it is safe, and after the time skip, everything seems to be corrupted.

On top of that, my stamina has been decreasing rapidly, whereas by the time in the Deep Roads my character had 15 Willpower and 150 Stamina, by the time I reached the Varterral Hunting Grounds with level 16 Rogue, 23 Willpower and I only have 132 Stamina. Hope that helps in some way.

And I forgot to do this:

1. I haven't used Mythal's Favor, nor Ander's Ressurection.
2. Normal
3. Rogue

Yeah, timeline-wise, the bug started appearing toward the end of Year Four, I haven't even gotten to Act 3 yet, so the cause for me has to be earlier than that.

It's difficult to judge because this was progressively getting slower. I can't really pinpoint when it happened, though I'm pretty sure it was Deep Roads or later.

The save game edit that was described above does thankfully work. It wasn't a 161 but a 166 for me. Just find the one with the duration of around 20000 and max that out. Unfortunately, when your character dies it gets reset - rezzing him puts him back in slow motion. However, re-casting haste does increase the speed normally and you go back to the correct speed when it wears off.

You also can't go home if you edit the save because that removes your infinite haste.

Sigh.

I can't believe I've paid $60 for a game-stopping bugged game from Bioware. This is just not right

Sorry, I seem to have mixed up my saves. I just tried recreating the problem by playing through the Fanatic Elf fight again, to no avail. I then rechecked later saves, and there are some that still do not have the problem. It's between this fight and the end of act 2. I'll keep checking.

EDIT: I've rechecked all saves after the Fanatic Elf fight and before a definite slowdown, and the problem seems to occur pretty soon after that fight. I can however not nail it down more specifically. It might start directly afterwards, but if it does, it's subtle.

@ czaeba
Try changing SAVEGAME_EFFECT_DURATION_TYPE, too.
I set it to 4, which is I think armour. I died once and went to my home 2 times and the effect was still there. If it is a different number, just check that out and fill it in instead.
I hope that helps you.
P.S. I also noticed Haste does stack so when it is cast a second time you benefit like everyone else.

Yes, thank you Darian, your fix has worked wonders for me, though there is a certain duel in Act II that I can't figure out how to bring Haste into as a cutscene always seems to remove it.

I first noticed the bug in the deep roads expedition with Varric between the large spider boss and the dragon, however I was not personally controlling my Hawke that much so there is a good chance it happened sooner.

I have a save file right before the last fight I had before the expedition (where you take the vicounts son from the winters mercenaries) and that had the bug to.

My most recent save file that is bug free is at the end of the prologue where you chose to work with the smugglers or mercenaries. I have no save files between this and the winters fight so that is the best I can do as far as pinpointing where it happened.

Try using what I told czaeba to do. This worked for me, so maybe this can help you, too.

Personally for me it became noticable after Merrill's companion quest in act2. The save right after I beat the Varterral is where I first got the bug on my warrior.

The save editor trick works really well, thx czaeba. However, I feel kind of overpowered with it on, and I look all blue and sparkly all the time during combat. Waiting for a real fix next week hopefully >.<

I figured out a work-around.
First, unequip your gear and cancel all buffs. Now cast haste.
Make a save and grab that file : http://social.biowar...ect/1936/#files
Than open it and go to SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHARAKTER / SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHARAKTER_CHAR / SAVEGAME_EFFECT_LIST. Now pick the second effect and increase the duration to the highest number possible.
This will now let you have infinte hast, which seems to counter this weird slowdown.
Hope that helps.

Assuming I'm supposed to use the editor program, I can't seem to find those files...

Awesome, I changed it to effect type 4 and set it for maximum integer size :P
It never goes away now and things are back to normal, except for the blue glow all the time during combat but hopefully this bug gets fixed next week.

Than open it and go to SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHARAKTER / SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHARAKTER_CHAR / SAVEGAME_EFFECT_LIST.

Hmm, i could not find SAVEGAME_EFFECT_LIST in SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHARAKTER - SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHARAKTER_CHAR

You, sir, are a genius. So far this is working as an excellent temp fix. I'm still hoping for an official fix soon but this will work nicely until then.

Where is no SAVEGAME_EFFECT_LIST in SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHARAKTER / SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHARAKTER_CHAR /  in my save
