Nobles? When do you side with nobles? the end game is siding with Templars or mages not nobles. And no where in the game does it say Hawke was made Viscount. Earlier Varric even tells Cassandra 'I don't know where she is'.

There are a group of Anti-Templar nobles you can help in a sidequest but the whole Hawke becomes Viscount thing never pans out. Probably because the local Chantry explodes and Templars and Mages tear the entire city apart in an all out death struggle.

Guess that took precedence . . .

Anyone found a way to seize the throne?
Cause when it was suggested to Alistair he said something about needing the support of the Templars.
I haven't sided with anyone yet, but I have the respect of both, been helping both factions including Thrasks rebel faction of templars and mages which I had surrender and was given mercy by Merideth.

Also is it possible to talk Anders out of making the lyrium unstable or, corrupting the lyrium in the chantry (I guess that is what he goes to do when you are asked to be a distraction.) Perhaps during the phase when he asks for help getting the ingredients one can talk him out of it. Or perhaps it doesn't matter and he'll destroy it anyway even without doing that side quest?

There is no way to become Viscount and no way to stop Anders from blowing up the Chantry and assassinating the Grand Cleric. That happens no matter what.

Actually there is a way to become viscount, it's one of the achievements. I don't know how though.

I would presume that siding with the Templars would gain you Viscount but i could be wrong.

apparantly not, if you had READ anything about this thread... If you can be viscount, It can only happen probably during the time of when you fight Asurak, or RIGHT in the next chapter...

If you side with the Templars at the end of the game, Hawke is crowned Viscount but they don't really show much of it aside from varric's line that "The city was crawling on hand and knee asking Hawke to lead them" Just a little bonus at the end I guess. Wish it was a more satisfying achievement.

isn't there a cut scene form the trailer and somewhere else showing him getting crowned? BEFORE the last battles

WE're wondering what it takes to GET there, so we can get the achievement.

What achievement are you talking about? What's the name of it?

Crowning Glory, and Honestly, I spent 2 hours trying to figure it out and I gave up and powered through the rest of the game on my Warrior. Will try again on Mage and Rogue... hopefully.. though right now I'm really disappointed in the Wheel dialogue system for DA2.

There is no cutscene. All you get is a little mention of it in the ending and an achievement. Near as I can tell the only requirement is to side with the Templars.

I sided with the Templars...yet somehow at the end of the game the Mages were praiseing me as a hero and the whole city droped to its hands and knees...begging me to become Viscount.

My friend said there is, and I beat the game on my Warrior before he did, and i've only not done one quest, which is bugged in Act 3.

I'm not sure, but maybe if you choose to spare the mages that come begging for it when you side with the Templars, you also have the mages indebted to you? I found it interesting that both the mages and the Templars are rebelling against the chantry. It makes me really curious what the dynamic will be from now on. I mean, in DA2 especially, the Chantry wasn't really 'oppressive', They didn't do anything to aid either side. You could say that's not good, but the game you have the game you have the templars actually choosing to rebel against them is.. where the Templars and the Mages are the two destructive forces, not the Chantry. Now, is the Chantry wrong to keep them 'controlled' with Lyrium like you discover in DA:O and is mentioned briefly in DAII? Yes. But like I said, you only really get a brief mention of that and then examples of how Lyrium can be very bad. I've never really cared for the Chantry, especially after the first game, but after this game, I felt sympathetic towards it. I feel like they're being the most level-headed ones of the bunch. '

I played it and got the achievement, there was no cutscene. Either it was cut or was just used for promotional material but there's not much fancy about it. Side with the Templars and you become viscount. That's it. I had to double check my achievements because there was no real fanfare and I did get it. It can't happen before act III since if Alistair is there you can ask him to support you for viscount and he says he can't, that you need Templar support.

Only thing I can say is check your achievements in case you missed it.

WOW, this game is truely epic. In the final mission, no matter which side you are with, you have to confront both first enchanter and the Knight-Commander of the Templer Order and it is a bloody mess in the whole city in the end.

I did both. Siding with the Templars is what unlocks the "Crowning Glory" achievement, but it only is mentioned by Varric in the epilogue, that's it. I was a little disappointed that the epilogue wasn't as robust as DA:O, where it talked about the fate of the other companions and important NPC's you encountered. I made a lot of my decisions as to how I interacted with quest NPC's (such as Faynriel) based on expecting an epilogue entry, but to no avail.

Also, are you referring to the part where Varric says "The Champion had become a rallying cry for the mages..." as the mages are praising you as a hero? I think what Varric is actually saying is that the Champion became a rallying cry for the mages, but in a negative way. He goes on to say "...as a reminder of their brutal oppression." Varric does say the city dropped to its knees and practically begged the Champion to become viscount, but at that point I don't think there were too many mages left in Kirkwall to praise or condemn you. ;)

Side with the templars in the end. It should pop.
