I noticed another cave at the top of Sundermount. In act 1, there is a blue barrier like the one Merrill took down with blood magic, but when I try to interact with it, it knocks me back(and the first time some shades and stuff spawned). I couldn't ever figure out what to do there, so I just contniued on with the game. I went back in act 2, but this time(after killing the dragon up there) there wasn't a blue barrier anymore, but there was a wagon blocking the entrance. What's up with this place? Is there something I'm supposed to do in act 1?

Nope. Usually the places blocked will be unlocked as you progress and it will let you know what's going on.
In particular, that area has to do with a later quest.

So the blue barrier in the first act has no significance at all? Seems kinda odd they would put that there and then have it blocked off with a wagon in the next act.

If you run into the barrier it summons some undead. In act 3 of the final quest for Merrill the way is open.

This game reuse the same maps and block of doors in different quests to make your path different. I recall some of those blue barriers, and iirc they turn off after I complete the fight. There is a cave that has spiders and later in Act 1 you can no longer get into that section. Sorry I don't remember what the place was called.

If it's the cave near where the ritual took place you're talking about, then the blue barrier is there because it's not needed yet. The cave isn't important in Act 1 or 2, wait for Act 3 to find out what it is.
