Well the topic says it all i believe. I'm at act 3 and suddenly Isabela is in front of my writing desk with an quest mark over her head and when i try to talk to her i can't get into a conversation but she only drop one of those random comments.
I can't talk to her over at the Hanged man either. But over there she doesn't hava a quest mark at least.

Is it suppose to be like this? Do I have to get something special before i can talk to her or is it just a bug?

Facing the exact problem and i think i found out what causes it.
When i 1st entered the the Estate, merril was there ... its a scene where you are able to make love to her. Once i did, left estate and came back, isabella sitting infront of the letters with a quest mark above her and i cant start it. Reloaded the saves multiple times then found out if you actually reject Merril, it wont cause this problem. And everytime i make love to her, bug occurs.

Problem is, i want my story to be like this, fool around with Merril then get back to Isabella, but this is causing a bug to me.

Act 3. Please fix this :(

Ok I had this same problem.  Only solution I can find which is going to sound tideous is; Make sure you talk to Isabela before you romance Merril (Or have sex with Merril) otherwise the game will never let you activate the quest with Isabela.  If you get into a situation where Merril comes to your estate before you can activate the Isabella quest and your more into romancing Isabella make sure to reject Merril.  Fortunatly I'm just into act 3 with Isabela fully freinded and on my way to romance.  Merril ive got at a stage where I can romance but havnt activated the pre conversations with her for her to vist my estate for sex.  If you have already had sex with Merril pre act 3 then you could be screwed if you want to romance them both or romance Isabella. I was fortunate I could go back to a save that was before I had sex with Merril so I can romance them both.  Oh and one hint to look out for is when you 'romance' Isabella or Merril or any companion that is possible to romance, their attire changes.  I believe Isabella wears a red sash round her arm with some black attire going on aswell (This is what I read from Dragon Age wiki).  Also on the **** up save I did where I had sex with Merril before talking to Isabella, after I asked Merril to move in with me her attrie changed to a white armour plating.

Damn it - I have this bug too - she keep standing in front of the Writing Desk and keeps Gawking!! Which reminds me - there was another major bug where I couldn't complete the Chantry boards quest in Act 1 when I'm supposed to talk with that elf woman in Darktown -!!
Another bug in which if u try to hand any character a shield when he's holding a two handed weapon - BOOM - crash to desktop - 100% of the time!!!

Seriously - combined with the repetitious outdoor and indoor environment - the bugs and gameplay is really disappointing!!

No - I got this bug even when I rejected Merril - its not rejecting Merril that's causing this !!

I just noticed this bug too.

I'm 100% friend with Isabella, but never attempted romance. I am in a romance with Fenris and already slept with him.

Don't know why she's here, might try a reload and see - i just hope i'm not missing a quest to hunt Castillon for her

Anyone found her at their writing desk and it not bugged? What does Isabella want?

I'm getting this bug on my Xbox 360 version as well. From what I hear, it is indeed the Castillon quest we're getting screwed out of.

It is the quest where she meets Castillion due to it been one of her companion quests as part of her romance.  If you want to romance her or you specifically want to see Castillion, then you will need to make sure you dont ask anyone to move into your house before youve got this quest mark out the way first.

The issue that might be causing this, at least for me, is me romancing Merrill alongside Isabela (I'm surprised Bioware allowed it, but I was expecting a Mass Effect 1-style confrontation at least). It got to the point where she approached me about moving in, and I accepted, leading to Isabela not able to respond at the mansion. I loaded a previous save, rejected Merrill, and still nothing. I went and did On The Loose, and still nothing. So it would seem this might be tied directly to the option to romance Merrill and Isabela simultaneously.

I've also got this bug...

I've found a way to activate the MISSION (however it does not give the quest itself in your Journal) for Isabela. (Castillion Mission)

However, using the Dev. console, I removed every possible romance flag from everyone (except isabela) and it still did not allow me to interact with her outside of her typical banter. I then went in and added the DENIED flag to every NPC other than Isabela, which still did not remedy the problem.

I think it's complete random hapenstance that your love interests are wide-spread.

This being said, I think it's a Cinematic problem, as the mission isn't suposed to be 'click' mission, but a 'triggered' mission by you entering the estate.

I think that could be true, as Isabela first showed up at the estate when the Merrill moving-in scene played out. I recall there being both Isabela and Merrill in the first open room with your storage and such in it. I thought it was going to be the expected confrontation, but I believe it jumped straight into the moving-in once I entered the room.

I have a similar issue with Fenris. He's in his mansion. The companion quest list has an active quest (talk to Fenris in his mansion) and there is a quest marker over him, when you are in his mansion, but you can't have a conversation with him. It was there before and after the Hadriana quest.

I had the same problem with Isabel. The only way I've heard to make it work is to head back to your house immediately after talking to her in the Hanged Man for the 1st time in Act 3. Ya know....when you discuss her coming back after taking the book in Act 2. Luckily, I had a saved game right at this moment and it worked fine.

Yeah, this bug blows, but I managed to fix it but at the cost of having to start act 3 over again....

yup, I'm having this same issue on the ps3. I slept with isabella and merill in act 2 and romanced merril since isabella left... now merril's in the estate and I just got the sylvanwood ring for her. isabella's just standing next to my pile of letters, with party banter.

patch this, bioware!

EDIT: lol I just reloaded my last save and didn't talk to merril first (I did the first time because she was closest). went up to isabella to trigger the quest. I got lucky, i guess)

still... bioware, fix this problem. I know how annoying it can be for the people who still haven't managed to resolve this issue.

got same issue on my PS3

completed first time as rogue, romaced isabella first, then merril and made her live in my home.
I got the quest that Isabella gives on the desk further on Act 3, it's to kill Castillo

Then, I started playing as mage, I never romanced Merril but I did romanced Isabella, now I got her stuck on my desk with quest mark and it wont let me talk to her to give me the quest!

Did you complete the prerequisites for the quest? You need to finish "On the Loose" and speak to Isabela at the hanged man (get her act 3 codex entry). If that doesn't work, you may have to restart act 3.

Yes, I did already complete the "On the Loose" and started her act 3 codex entry on the hanged man

she's still bugged on my desk with Quest mark on her but wont let me talk to her for the quest.

Question: Are you romancing her? Also, have you started "Best Served Cold"?

I have the same problem. I've tried quite a bit to resolve it (I'm far enough along in Act 3 that I'd rather not load an old Act 2 save).

1. Completed the "On The Loose" quest
2. Rejected Merrill when she came to my home
3. Gave Isabella the second gift.
4. Started the best served cold quest
5. used the makers sigh to correct the Merrill armor bug (which changed her clothes to the romance outfit and added the missing two rune slots).

She is still standing by the writing desk with a question mark over her head. Any further ideas? And is this something Bioware is working to fix in the console patch (I'm playing on Xbox 360).

Any solutions? Though at the end of the game it still said isabella stayed with Hawke even though I had full romanced merril since I never got to finish things with isabella due to this.

In the PC, patch 1.02 corrects the problem of who stays with you. The patch also fixes the quest problem with Isabella. However I found before the patch that if I go to the Hangman and talk to Isabella there, I get the quest. It is the Castillion quest. Unless you are romancing Isabella, this quest is optional.
