I'd really hoped to have played the game properly my first playthrough but I'm not seeing that happening.

Any news on patches and updates?

Theres no news on any upcoming updates. But I'm sure if enough people send them an email about the problems with the game, they will surely come up with fixes sooner. So try sending them an email! :D

There's been an unofficial word that we can expect patches for the game and toolset this coming week, but be patient as things may unintentionally take longer than anticipated

After patch is done, they have to send it to EA for approval, which adds another 3-10 days onto it everytime they release an Official patch. Too many people with nothing to do?

Or since this is EA, intentionally.

There is one issue that has come to my attention. Apparently for the the PC, Bioware did not release all the correct textures. Some of these are low-Res, and are likely due to the console version being released as PC (consoles do not have enough RAM or VRAM for full textures for a game this large). This means that Bioware will have to patch that soon and I will have to redo part of this mod. I am not sure why they have not released it already, but it should only be another day or two.

wtf is this ****? update the textures bioware

If it is on purpose, why buy the game anyway?

Well at least I know Im not the only one waiting.

Still...the game is probably now my favorite game all time...or close. Squashing the remaining bugs and fixing the textures should would have made the decision a no brainer. Still..quite impressed with the game..but perplexed by some things (like the texture issue)

I thought with the PC version, they could just release it without having to go through EA. Or do they still have to go through EA, but just not Sony and MS?

They still go through EA (as EA is the publisher) but not Sony or Microsoft...

I'm not really sure why everyone complains about them going through long testing periods before releasing patches/fixes. I mean hey, they could be like Microsoft, release a patch, that needs a patch, then a hotfix for the patch, and a patch for that hotfix for that patch...etc....

Yeah. I'd rather wait an extra week.

Also, what is the exact problem with the textures? Perhaps some tinkering in your video card settings could resolve the issue?

I don't see myself patching for a few weeks even after the patch is released. Their last patch was disgustingly amateur and this time I'm prepared for it.

A new patch would be most appreciated, especially if it remedys the repeated crash to desktop problem (cant use the single core trick as am running a single core early model amd64).

Speaking of which, Im not so sure that it is the processor/operating system that is causing that issue anymore.
My friend has the same processor and near same pc specs and OS (winxp 64) as me and he is yet to experience a single crash (only diff is he has an nvidia 8800GTS vid card, whereas I have a 9600GT).

Even though he bought his copy of dragonage just last friday and I bought mine on launch day, he has nearly caught me up in terms of progression (I blame the constant crashes plus restarts for this) :D

A few of my programming buddies reckon its probably something to do with corrupted save files/data causing the crashes, but its all speculation.

Fingers crossed for a fix soon so I dont have to resort to borrowing someones xbox360 copy of the game.

Its more likely that its because dragonage is a 32 bit application running in a 64 bit os with old/specific drivers it installs

No..Bioware admitted there are textures that are missing or are low-res that should have been hi-res that got messed up in the final build texture packages.. how someone doesn't noticethese is beyond me..go look at the wagon in the camp for instance..or look under the logs in a campfire and see the shining metal texture (should be more like ash there)

Bioware wanted to work on a patch but when EA saw patches dont help with the $ they forced them to work on new DLC content instead.

So that first thing they released called a patch was actually approved by EA? I find it hard to believe it was tested at all.

8800 is a better card than the 9600 and uses different specific drivers. Even two virtually identical hardware configurations are going to be nothing alike after 6 months. Maybe he's updated something you haven't, maybe the new 8800 drivers are more stable (or he's using an older version), maybe your audio is different. Try some additional comparisions and you may be able to find the difference and resolve it.

Does no one remember the Garrus face texture fiasco? I'm not expecting miracles anytime soon.

I would not hope for a patch too soon as i have just installed patch 1.01a and now game will not boot up. So far I have not found a remedy that works but I suppose I could reinstall whole game and not patch.

BTW I do agree that the game was too hard at times on normal setting.

A lot of encounters in the game could use some rebalancing. As can quite a few skills and their activation costs.

Search through the forum on updating Visual C++.  Specifically the x86 version.  That is how a lot of people have been able to play after the first virus...I mean patch.

There are two stickied posts that tell you how to fix this. One of the them is even labeled "Fix for game not working after patch 1.01"
