So I just started act 3 and got the normal quests to go talk to the companions. I get 2 for Merrill but that didn't really strike me as all that strange(One to talk to her at the mansion and one for her house). So I stop by her house first and notice that she isn't there but Varric is, which is odd. So I then went to the mansion and the conversation there plays out fine and she leaves to head to her house.

As soon as I enter her house a scene with her standing in front of her mirror starts. She is talking about someone really being gone, the Dalish not listening to her, and what she is supposed to do now. I'm assuming this is supposed to happen after her quest for Act 3. Then the mirror disappears after that conversation is over. Talking to her again then starts the correct conversation (the one that appears in the quest log) with Merrill, Hawke, and Varric. She mentions the mirror like it should be there.

I have the same problem. Fortunately I kept a save from act 2 and can restart act 3, so I hope this error is fixed soon. Apparently there are a lot of problems with Merrill's quests from act 2 on.

Just went experimenting with saves (due to the far nastier slowmoHawke bug). You can go to her house without triggering the scene if you don't have the conversation with her at your place at the beginning of Act 3, assuming you romanced her like I did.

Not sure yet if you can get her quest or not without doing the house dialog. We'll see.

I had this happen but didn't think it was a bug untill reading this, so what did I miss?

So, I still don't have Merill's Act 3 Quest yet. I'm thinking this broke it. Unless it happens later or something.


After looking again, I have two quests involving Merill right at the start of Act 3. One disappears as soon as I've talked to her at the house, and the other vanishes after I complete the out of place conversation. This really sucks!

Got the bug too. No mention of fixing this in the newest beta patch, which doesn't even work for Steam.

So, assuming I'm inclined to load back or start a new game, is there a way to avoid this problem? Or do we have to wait for a patch?

Just wanted to add I've got the exact same bug with my mage romancing Merrill. But I also had the out of order conversations issue when playing my rogue, who romanced Isabela. So I don't think it has to do with the house conversation - not entirely, anyway. Hope it's fixed in a patch.

Got this bug as well. First time I talk to her at the mansion at the beginning of act 3, then I go to her hovel and she's crying in front of the mirror lamenting her clan's death. Then I talk to her again and it's Varric telling her to get some fresh air.
