Went to Merrill's house in Act 3 and right off she is crying at the mirror and talking about Marethari being "gone." Then I went to Sundermount and there was Marethari. I assume this is the same bug everyone else is having? BTW, I am romancing Isabela and flirted with Merrill a few times in Act 2 and had to choose the Broken Heart Icon with Merrill to stop that romance from happening. Don't know if that had anything to do with triggering the bug.

Maybe this is because my brother died in the deep roads. Don't know.

or, (not verified). I read somewhere else, not having full friendship/rivalry will also prevent the bug from happening

I have a video on youtube of the bug:

The party slays the Keeper, then leaves the dungeon, only to be attacked by a party of Dalish. Then we head down the mountain and gat forced into slaying the entire Dalish population of the camp.
None of this has sparked a conversation with Merrill. There has been no conclusion to the quest. I quit the game and restarted, returning to Sundermount only to hear Merrill say, "I can't believe the Keeper hasn't moved the clan away from here yet" (and they're all still dead).
It kind of annoys me that after slaying the most important person in the world to her, and ALL of her people in the area, she has nothing to say afterwards. I hope Bioware fixes this quick.

Well what's supposed to happen is the first cutscene in the video I linked to in my last post. As you can see, she does have a pretty emotional thing to say, it's just broken and comes at the wrong time.PRegner wrote...
I've had similar bug issues with Merrill. I haven't romanced her, and she is pretty much nuetral to my character. The bug I'm getting is after we go to the top of Sundermount so she can enlist the aid of the trapped demon, and discovers that the Keeper has already released it, and been subsequently possessed.

I've heard suggestions that the origin of this bug has to do with either your relationship with Isabella and/or the conclusion of act 2. So I tested a few things:
My character romanced Merrill after sleeping with Isabella (just a fling), then asked her to move in during act 2. In act 3 I had exactly this bug where her dialogues are messed up. I then reloaded the save right before clashing with the arishok (the first time - when Merrill got bugged -, I was nice to Isabella upon her return, and refused to hand her over to the arishok, and then accepted his demand for a duel.)
However, I ran several subsequent tests. The following two choices were the only two that doesn't mess Merrill's quests/dialogue up:
1. Responded aggressively to Isabellas return, and let the arishok take her back to Par Vollen, at which he just leaves without a fight.
2. Responded aggressively to Isabellas return, though refused to let him take her to Par Vollen, as well as refusing to duel him, upon which he and all his soldiers attack you and your party.
Both of these options resulted in Merrills quests/dialogue to play out without any problems. HOWEVER, if I chose ANY other solution than the two which I described here above, her quests/dialogue becomes a scrambled mess.
The second option doesn't seem to affect your relationship with Isabella as a friend. I haven't finished act 3 yet, so I'm not sure though. The first option is quite obvious though. Hope that helps
*edit: This "workaround" just seemed to work for a while. Now it's all back to how it was before... Damnit. Well, guess I've no other choice than wait for that patch. Dismiss what is written here above...

Bah. Well, responding aggressively to Isabela's return would be out of character for my Hawke, since she actually encouraged 'Bela to take the book and save her own life. (Granted, I/she always hoped that Isabela would do the responsible thing, but still.)
I understand, it's the way I felt about my nice/sarcastic Hawke as well. But you can't really blame the main character for being somewhat pissed off about the fact that the whole mess was caused by her to begin with and she knew it. I consider myself a nice person, but I wouldn't just say "hey, nice to see you again" upon her nonchalant, albeit goodhearted entrance. Nevertheless, it didn't seem to affect her feelings towards you in the end, and to be honest, if it's between this choice and not being able to fully enjoy Merrills relationship, it's an easy choice and compromise for me until the patch comes

This is difficult for me because I have Merrill maxed before I'm out of Act I, and I have yet to find a cheat that lets me unlock the relationship once it's locked...

OK, did a lot of research, and the cause of the bug is that the final scene triggers when it is act III and Merrill's relationship is locked (maxed). So for me, it showed up as soon as act 3 started. For PRenger, most likely, it didn't show up after the quest because the relationship hadn't reached maximum in either direction.

Have you tried using the savegame editor? You can modify the approval-rating of each party member in there.

At one point, Merrill asked for my help in fixing the mirror and I refused. She then destroyed the mirror. That was before the quest with the demon and the Keeper. But the next time I saw Merrill, the mirror was back and everything went on as if Merrill was still trying to repair the mirror.
If you have the game set up to use the runscript editor, go to the editor and type "runscript zz_app_debug", You will then get a wheel with the names of the companions. Merrill is on the second page. There, you can clear or set a romance flag, remove approval, or add approval. That can be done for all companions, except Sebastian.Erzengel Des Lichtes wrote...

I have GFF V4.0 Editor, and I couldn't figure out where the relationship values were stored in it (I assumed it would be on the party member). After taking a closer look thanks to your post, I found it under Party Pool Members->Party Approval List, and it works perfectly (once you line up the Approval ID with the party member's Object ID), there's no additional "lock" variable. So I can work around this bug by editing my save game and setting Merrill's relationship to ±75 or so at the beginning of Act 3.AutomaticDuck wrote...

That's actually the cheat I used for most of my research (I verified it without the console, though). However, once the relationship is maxed, it's locked and cannot be changed in game even with approval debug. At least, I haven't found a way. I've cleared all romance flags, and tried "remove approval" low, medium, high, and Rival without success when she's at full friendship. I've even tried "add approval" low, medium, high, Friend (in case that's a toggle?) followed by Remove High, and it still didn't work. If you can tell me the exact steps that will unlock using cheats, I'd be greatful.jwsel wrote...

Cool, so that means in act 3 the Merrill bug is solved for you then? If so, happy to help, and I've got to try this out

Not... exactly. Well, not from just changing the relationship. As soon as the relationship locks, it sets the twelf flag in Plot Flags 1 of plot 2B206E2501BF40A48ED9A4B6EF7533A4. This is what is actually checked.AutomaticDuck wrote...

BUT, as you may surmise I have fixed the problem by unsetting that flag. This required me making a save immediately before maxing out the relationship, a save immediately after (using debug so that as little changes as possible), spending 6 hours figuring out how to write a script for GFF 4.0 to export the saves into a readable format (I hate lack of documentation...), then doing a diff on the two files. Found the one plot flag that was changed, flipped that, and now it doesn't show the scene! YAY. What a waste of a day off.
I'll go update wikia with the way to fix it.

So does the scene now show in the correct place? and relate to what happened in the quest? If anyone has tried this I'll be greatful to know.
