I'd have to go back quite a while to get to a save before her friendship is maxed out. I suppose I could edit a recent save but I'd rather wait for the patch.

I have GFF V4.0 Editor, and I couldn't figure out where the relationship values were stored in it (I assumed it would be on the party member). After taking a closer look thanks to your post, I found it under Party Pool Members->Party Approval List, and it works perfectly (once you line up the Approval ID with the party member's Object ID), there's no additional "lock" variable. So I can work around this bug by editing my save game and setting Merrill's relationship to ±75 or so at the beginning of Act 3.
Cool, so that means in act 3 the Merrill bug is solved for you then? If so, happy to help, and I've got to try this out

BUT, as you may surmise I have fixed the problem by unsetting that flag. This required me making a save immediately before maxing out the relationship, a save immediately after (using debug so that as little changes as possible), spending 6 hours figuring out how to write a script for GFF 4.0 to export the saves into a readable format (I hate lack of documentation...), then doing a diff on the two files. Found the one plot flag that was changed, flipped that, and now it doesn't show the scene! YAY. What a waste of a day off.
I'll go update wikia with the way to fix it.
So does the scene now show in the correct place? and relate to what happened in the quest? If anyone has tried this I'll be greatful to know.
Yes, by following my guide on the wiki ( http://dragonage.wik...l.27s_Act_3_Bug ) you can get the save to show the correct scene at the end of A New Path, and it will correctly relate to the events of the quest. I've tried this several times now and it works perfectly on my saves. Please let me know if you find it useful, or if it doesn't work, or whatever.
I'd like my wasted day off to be of good use for everyone else...

In the end, after completing the quests 'A Talking To' and 'On The Loose' at the start of Act 3, I used the developer console to run the Merrill debug script and trigger her act 3 quest from it's beginning. Seemed to work OK ("A New Path" quest completed).

So FYI, yes, the patch supposedly fixes this issue.

Just reloaded Act III on my "Merrill Romance Hawke" that had this bugged. Patch fixed it.
