I keep dieing.
I am playing on normal, and the game has been a breeze in all fights and boss fights up until this point. I wanted to play on normal my first playthrough, and will bump it up to hard next, and then nightmare after that.
Anyways, this fight for some reason is very hard.
My companions are: Varric, Anders, Isabela, and I am a 2h warrior with some tanky attributes/abilities but mainly DPS
How did you guys beat it? I'm stuck.

On my 10th trial, I'm about to pull my hair out this fight is pissing me off so much. There are so many waves of Fanatics it's literally like 40 on screen at once; plus the boss.
3 seconds and my whole party is dead. Nice.
*edit* Jesus christ is nobody on these boards?

As soon as the fight starts, run back in the direction that you came (near the trapped chest). This does 2 things. A) it puts you behind the spawn point, meaning only the enemies initially on the field and Varrel will appear and attack you, and
Once that group is dead, slowly move to where the fight starts. Enemies will then spawn in, but should be far easier to deal with.

I actually did win once but the game froze = But if you take control of your healer (I have Anders decked out pretty well as a healer) and just use AOEs as much as possible, the smaller less dangerous enemies die fairly quickly. But at some point you need to just focus on Varnell. I dont think the waves stop until he is dead. I could be wrong. It was so many attempts ago that I don't even remember... you need a character that can get their attention and hold it as much as possible. thats really all I can tell you
The problem may be that I don't have a dedicated tank in my party

WOOOOOT! I JUST beat it. Ok so what i did was... I ran all the way back to the steps. I placed my healer and ranged about 6 steps from the bottom of the stairs. I placed my 'tank' at the center along with my melee. it was pretty easy then. I think I only got one to maaaaybe 3 waves
This is exactly what I did. Not sure about fire storm. That probly works too.

This fight is ridiculous. I actually managed to pull Varnell away from the main area with only Fenris alive and solo'd him. Took quite a while but he went down. However, when I came back upstairs I had to still kill off the minions. Well whaddya know even with Varnell dead another wave of them spawned. Got overwhelmed and died. Unfortunately I can't change my party make-up because my only save is right before this fight. I have Fenris, myself (rogue), Isabela, and Anders. I'm so tired of hearing throw mages at it when encountering a difficult fight. I got told the same thing in DA1. I shouldn't have to have a party full of mages to take down a boss.
When you think about what you are going up against, 2 rogues is not a good idea. I killed it eventually with merrill(SP), anders, aveline and me as rogue.
The fight is still stupid and should be fixed.

Once you do this, you can keep your meaty folks up front, just pummel away, took me 3 times, to figure out best route for that.

It's like they ran out of ideas for DA2's fighting mechanics and thought that enemis popping up at every corner would add to the challenge. Well, they were wrong.
