I was just wondering if Hawke choosing the Blood Mage spec affects the story in any way at all.
Will other characters acknowledge you as a Blood Mage?
thanks.

Funny that you will hear your companions whine about the evil of Blood Mages after a fight with them while Hawke is busy whipping the blood, he just used as a weapon, off his hands.
But the Blood Magic specialization is just a waste when you can get much better DPS out of the other specialization trees. Disappointing, considering the blood mages you fight seem to have a much more interesting Blood Magic skillset.

that's a bit disappointing, but I guess it's expected, considering it didn't really matter in Origins.......
and I read in the guide that enemy Blood Mages can TELEPORT!! But, sadly, Hawke cannot........is that true?

*spoilers for end of Act 2/beginning of Act 3*
However, anyone raised an eyebrow when the Knight-Commander herself is aware of that Hawke's a mage/got apostates in her party, yet she doesn't do anything about him? In fact she lets Hawke build a huge amount of influence over the years that challenges her. Champion of Kirkwall or no, I'm sure letting slip the fact that their champion's an apostate/harbouring apostates would smear Hawke's rep.
Granted, I'm just at the beginning of Act 3, so who knows, maybe the writers follow up on that fact?

So, I pretty much say my mage was not a blood mage, I just had it for the game mechanic.
Funny side note... Originally in Dragon Age Origins (it was removed by the final game, restored in videos below by a mod) if you were a blood mage when you saved the circle, Wynne would call you on it, and depending on your choices you could end up killing her, Irving (if he's there) and Gregaoir (which with Irving and Gregaoir dead, it broke the game, which might be part of why they removed it.)
Wynne confronts Warden, Persuade check successful.
Wynne confronts Warden, No Persuade check, breaks game

oh....and I take it that the lack of story reference to your spec also applies to choosing Templar as a Warrior.........correct?

Merril has a specific skill that allows her to pop up next to you, but I think it's more akin to Velanna's move that you see in a cutscene, where she's swallowed by roots and then moves under the earth.
Well, they are both using Keeper magic, so that makes sense.
Also, as for the early codex saying teleportation isn't possible, maybe it's a blood mage thing? Demons do it, so why can't they teach a blood mage to do it. However, if it's a demonic spell, then it would make sense for mages to be like
Rules of Magic writing mage 1: "Teleportation? Yeah not possible,"
Rules of Magic Writing mage 2: "Actually, you can learn to teleport from demons."
Rules of Magic Writing mage 1: "No, we aren't going to encourage blood magic.... we'll just say it's not possible"

btw, in Awakening, if Anders is a blood mage, he makes a funny comment about it.

pity, that there is no special quest to obtain blood mage specialization like it was in DAO. and i thought it would be reasonably if Anders say something about you being blood mage, may be some rivalry points. but he don't care at all, such wasted opportunity.

Yeah, like I said, the devs outright stated they didnt want o punis the player for choosing a game mechanic, so that's how I see it. My Mage Hawke was not a blood mage, I just used the game mechanic.

And a TON of the mages in Kirkwall were Blood Mages.

That seriously needs to change in the next dragon age.

I don't think Hawke can teleport. Merril can, though.
Velanna did something similar in Awakening. I guess it's a Dalish thing.

I thought blood magic was going to be cool and powerful, but would cost you allies or friends or a relationship. I was hesitant to choose it, because i thought, maybe Fenris and Anders would try to kill me or something... Then i was disappointed to find, that nobody gives a crap and blood magic kind of sucks.
That seriously needs to change in the next dragon age.
Totally agree. I was so disppointed when no one brought up my Hawke being a blood mage and his dialouge didn't change because of it. I feel that since it was an important part of the overall storyline and was in the trailer, unlocking blood mage or Templar abilities should unlock some extra missions and dialouge.
