I remember reading that DA2 was supposed to take place over the course of 10 years. Maybe I missed something, but I'm pretty sure it's seven.

Here's the timeline as I understand it:

Prologue (Escape Fereldan)

One year passes

Act 1 (Raising money for the Deep Roads expedition)

Three years pass (Total of four years)

Act 2 (Dealing with the Qunari)

Three years pass (Total of seven years)

Act 3 (Dealing with Templar/Mage issues)

End of game

How does that add up to 10 years? I'm confused. During the wrap-ups for Companion quests in Act 3, Varric even specifically mentions it's been 6 years to the day since he met you (in Act 1). That seems to support my math.

Varric is talking from 3 years later. So add those three to the end of the playable part and u got 10 years.

That's... deceptive. I'm not sure I'd count those 3 years as part of the game, though.
