I am in the UK and have the Steam download version.

I launch the game and I can hear music and see the cursor, but the screen is black.  I have updated my video driver (ATI) as per the instructions in this forum.

My dxdiag (trying to put this in spoiler tags to avoid lengthy scrolling for people browsing the thread!  Hope this works)* EDIT sorry it didn't work, I have no idea how to do that here :( :

I didn't see but one thing in that report that rang any alarms:

Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 4094MB RAM
Page File: 2154MB used, 6030MB available

That is double the size of "used" Pagefile that is appropriate, unless you had some really fat program minimized while you used DxDiag. You need to get rid of a lot of the fat in there. Something is interfering with the game.

Cheers mate - the only things I have loading on startup are Win7 (obviously!), Steam, and my AV, and driver control panels - I take good care of my system and keep it trimmed down as much as is practical, I've seen worse tbh!

I don't necessarily think that's the problem - I rebooted my PC and started the game in dx9 and now I'm getting the startup graphics fine (although haven't started the game yet, my OH has nicked the speakers to watch telly on his PC and I don't want my first attempt at the game to be without speakers!) so it's to do with dx11. I'll have a fiddle about with the configuration and repost my issue on the dx11 technical issues thread if need be.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my setup, much appreciated. :)

Edit: OH OH OH just realised I have my iz3d anaglyph 3d driver set to start when I launch a game, that's (sadly!) not compatible with dx11, I'll disable that driver and try again, this could turn out to be a bit of a facepalm moment, I'll report back....

EDIT again: SOLVED: Yes it was my 3d driver causing an issue running in dx11.  That particular issue is solved, my sincere apologies for forgetting to disable it before reporting an issue - maybe though this thread might help the small minority of users running 3d drivers who forget to disable them before launching the game using dx11!

I now have a different issue wrt to having the mouse highlight what it is supposed to be highlighting in dx11, I have to hover it in a different area of the screen than what it is supposed to be pointing at, but afaik that is a known issue and I will post a report in the relevant thread.

Thank you again for looking at my dxdiag and trying to help, my apologies for forgetting something major on my end!
