Bethany got friendshipped really easy, in a hour or so.Just did her quest.
Aveline was first to have rivalry.
Good grief, people, what do you do to make Varric like you? I joke with him, it gives me +5 friendship. then I go out and get +15 rivalry

Varric because he apparently approves of my choices and sarcasm.
Bethany because sisters got to stay together.
Then it was Aveline, and Anders. Which of course I got Anders at 100%, because he's my romance interest and my Hawke is very pro-mage. (:

Varric. Considering I always hopped around with him and the harping duo of Fenris and Anders, Varric got to be the first, closely followed by Fenris.

Bethany because I was her protective older sister who stood up for mages, which then led to my character falling for Merrill, who was the third person she got 100% with. (Varric was second only because he pretty much loves everything.

Mage play through it was Varric, Isabella, Aveline, Merril, Anders. Fenris on the other hand ended up making me think he was bi-polar since he keep alternating between friendship, and rivalry the entire game.

Rogue play through I got Bethany to max about halfway in.

Varric seems to respond negatively if you choose the aggressive and blunt conversation options. If you go the sarcasm or diplomatic routes, he is much more likely to approve.

Most of the companions seem to react well to Sarcasm, though Merrill probably has the funniest reactions to it.
