Hi new here n wondering if i choose either the merc or smuggler missions from early on does that affect if either of them become my companion? I'm a warrior so i'm leaning towards the merc but something tells me the elf woman will become my companion (maybe even romance) later if i do the smuggler mission...any help without major spoilers would be appreciated.

Sorry if this has been asked already but i didn't see a search option here

Picking either side doesn't change who your squaddies are, so relax and just pick whichever you prefer.

I picked mercenaries without even thinking the first time, and it worked out fine.

thanks for the input...i'm new to dragon age n it seems like every choice has a greater consequence later in the game, i didnt want to lose a party member because i chose wrong

It's nothing but background flavor. I played warrior but went smuggler so I was known as someone with a shady background. Aveline even chastises me about it. I like to think that I'm something of a Green Hornet figure in Kirkwall. I think you get a few different quests during Year Two.
