I liked the story, the characters, and the combat. I thought the party banter was fantastic. A definite improvement over DAO in that regard. Though i do have a feeling that we sacrificed one on one discussions and questions with your companion for that improved party banter
The recycled environments were just bad though. That drops the game a lot. If you are going to stick your game in one city, you need stuff outside that to go explore. Problem is, is that I explored everything by the first act since everything looked the same. I also did not appreciate the lack of customization, which is somewhat telling since I like how they did it in ME2.
Overall, I would give it about the same score as Origins, but they get that score for different reasons.

It definately feels like a console port on the PC. This is a game I'll play once, whereas I played DA:O about 4 times all the way through.
It's not a particularly bad game on it's own merits, but it's a very poor sequel to DA:O.

5 on it's own merit
4.5 as a continuation of the franchise

I find myself agreeing with you. I think a 8.0 - 8.5 is a a very fair overall score.AmyBA wrote...
DA:O 8.9 - 9
DA2: 8 - 8.5
I honestly enjoyed it. I loved Origins, I have put over 450 hours into it and adore it for everything it is. DA2 does feel different, the setting and how it all plays out, different. But I had a lot of fun, and really thought the story was good. No, there is no single big bad, world destroying enemy/army or central quest, its all about the series of events that happened in Hawkes life that shaped Hawke into what he/she was, and all the smaller deeds that lead him/her on their path to becoming the Champion. I thought it was wrapped up very well too.
In some ways I was disappointed that it was shorter than DA:O, because I would have liked more time to explore and to get to know the people in my characters lives, but then there were times in DA:O when it felt like it was really dragging on and taking too long to get through certain quests and areas, so that part is a double edged sword. Some of the maps being copied got kind of old, but it didn't bother me too much. I felt the combat being faster paced and more actiony was very fun, but it did feel less challenging and less tactical. I enjoy the way the inventory and character equipment was setup, and I liked my party members and their backgrounds.
So yea, overall, a good game for me.

-reusable environments.
-waves of mobs get boring (seriously I fell asleep)
-waves of mobs - removed tactical approach w/ traps/stealth n ****
-lame adult elves (children look fine I suppose)
-lame darkspawn
-lame injury system
-lots of graphical ugliness (you really thought we wouldnt notice? Where is the quality control?)
-Inventory, item description and icons were better in origins. (I am serious)
-combat isn't tactical. I don't have to think as a general and I fight more like some final fantasy kid than a spartan. Seriously I am dealing 7 blows before enemy npc deals 1.
-Bi companions. Don't like too much of it in video games sorry!

Don't think I'd even be remotely satisfied with this product unless I heard a public apology from Bioware at this point.
This game is clearly of inferior quality."
Apology for what? Go shoot yourself or something. I have no issues with it except for the fact i cant control my companions gear....

The game's first 3-5 hours are amazing; and that's when it starts to drop the ball.
The combat is a great change, but with the constant wave-style enemies, on higher difficulties it just becomes an awkward constant switch between destroying Hawke or pausing and issuing orders. There is also a somewhat limited feel for normal elite enemy level types; rather than make them interesting it seems the developers had a hard-on for Assassins, which is disappointing because not only are they annoying, they are also more interesting than the other two types you'll fight.
Enemies at first seem very interesting but lack the uniqueness of DA:O in that most fall into Assassin, Archer, Aura tank person, Mage, or Mindless infantry, whereas several of the elite enemies you could fight in DA:O had their own unique abilities, and they appeared frequently enough to not make you sick of the more generic elite enemies.
Wave combat was a good idea but is far too overdone, I'd love to be able to know exactly what I'm fighting most of the time, with occasional wave ambushes. It simply doesn't make sense for templars to suddenly appear in the middle of the city from the sky like they all have spider powers.
Environments are beautiful, but I think I spent half my game time in the same cave map, which is honestly just laziness to be copy/pasted so much over the game.
Side-quests are probably my favorite part of the game in that they're 1000x better than that of DA:O and far more interesting than DA2's main story, which is another negative, DA2's main plot quests were actually the downside of each act for me.
Characterization, dialogue, and story telling in general is really well done, with some parts completely unexpected or hilarious, something DA:O failed to do except on few occasions for me.
Overall, I think the game could be summarized as a restaurant steak dinner; your steak is there, it's perfectly cooked, but your drink isn't what you ordered, your mashed potato sides are cold, and 20% of whatever vegetables you got are rotten.
I'll definitely play the game again, but as a sequel to DA:O (which I'd say was probably an 9/10 for me) it does fall short quite a bit. Hopefully DA3 will work on what DA2 and DA:O did right, and ffs don't copy paste as much.

A good game, but sorely lacking when compared to origins.
