Dragon Age 2 is not a bad game. But if there is anything good about it, I'm yet to find it.

7.5 is fair I think as far as I've played

Pros

--UI/Menus
--Combat Tempo
--Accommodating to all Playstyles (compared to original)
--Graphics (aside from some DX11 issues)
--Storytelling (sucker for the watercolor narrative style)

Cons

--Blatant environment recycling
--Tactical choices a little limited by companions
--Item names (500 misc rings/belts/amulets, give us some kind of prefix/suffix system please)

7. I love the game to death, but the recycled maps manage to retract 3 points all by themself. It reminds me of WoW really where every cavern looks the freaking same. Other than that fairly major flaw I love it.

5 - Really not impressed.

If I was 14, then I would have voted 10!!! for sure.

I really thought Dragon Age was meant to be a mature RPG, I was wrong.

Would I be less critical if this wasn't a sequel to DA:O? Possibly. But it is a sequel and is judged as such. Although, honestly, I might be far more critical if I wasn't such a Bioware fan.

Pros:
-Characters are pretty good, and very well voice acted
-Party Character-related graphics are improved
-Combat moves much faster,

Cons:
-Weak story that lacks the focus and drive of the original, and the characters are not as memorable
-Male Hawke voice actor sounds wooden and odd
-Makes poor use of DX11
-Worse writing
-The combat is FAR too over the top and looks more like a 14 year old boy's vision of a medieval world
-No Isometric Camera
-Mass effect dialogue wheel and BIG PINK HEARTS for romance options is a terrible design decision
-Systemic bugs, such as the import save
-Bland, reused environments and dungeons
-A lot of the NPC's in towns look terrible in closeup
-The new art direction is dull, cartoonish, and childish. The new look for Elves is a perfect example. These things did not need to be changed, who no earth are they trying to appeal to?

Hopefully BioWare spends more time on the sequel.

I'd give it an 8 so far. But I'm only 5 hours in so that could go up or down as the game goes on. I really do love parts of it, but I miss some of the stuff from DA:O so...enjoying it and we'll see where it goes.

For comparison.

8/10 - KOTOR
8/10 - ME1.
9/10 - ME2.
7.5/10 - DA:O.
8/10 - DA2.

Though take my numbers for nothing, I loved ME2 more as a game but still would rank ME1 above it. I just can't ignore all the things ME2 did better and give it a lower score because of my own opinion, it changed many things I hated from ME1.

I'm still on the first act, but so far I give it a 6.5

So far it's not a scratch on Origins, and to be honest once I've completed it, I'll probably go back to playing Origins again (mods ftw!!)

6/10.

Enjoyed a lot of the new features, disliked the lack of companion inventory, and liked the characters well enough.

The story had tons of potential that the game never seized upon and the constant reusing of maps grew tiresome, especially since there were frequent large load zones you had to cross. To change out your team you had to go through at least two load zones!

6/10 is fair. It was enjoyable but lacking badly in story and direction.

If a game's about Templar vs Mages it would be a lot better to meet all the players early on and have tensions rise, outside of a few side quests the whole 'plot' only starts at the opening of Act 3 and Act 3 is only 3 missions long.

Probably enjoyable for people who also like games like Bajonetta or Devil May Cry, but a bad RPG.
Call of Duty respawns in every fight are the death strike.

Yep, because I pause and micromanage my fights in Bayonetta and DMC all the time...

As for respawns I do agree in a couple areas they're done poorly - but for the spiders, undead and demons it's already been established as normal from DA:O. (The ones done poorly are the ones where other types - mercs and darkspawn for example add to the fight with obvious respawn rather than coming in from outside of the range of view)

I'd give it a solid 9 right now - and you'd be hard pressed to find someone that games more - considering we're a husband and wife that are both disabled, and with the male half of the equation being physically unable to leave the house most of the time there are very few games we haven't played heavily. (the wonders of neurologic problems not even being able to carry a 120 lb frame most days makes it difficult to be involved outside of the house - even getting the mail proves challenging sometimes)

I do have a big bug in my rear over the lack of truly gearing companions though - I could care less if their appearance would change with the gear, I just like the variety that it allows in secondary character building. But that's why its not a 10, that's easily worth knocking of a full point for to me.

While I do agree that the game likely would be better with a less restrictive world - it's not like the series was established as an open-world free-roaming game in the first - much like the similarly "closed world-ed" Fallout 1 and 2.

Bioware's narrative strength (and seriously, anyone who claims this doesn't have good narrative hasn't beaten the game clearly....) requires linearity to a point - sandbox games have to be designed like a novella where you can read any story at any point and enjoy each piece on its own, but that leads to a weaker overall narrative.

Look at how much stronger the narrative flow in Fallout: New Vegas was compared to Fallout 3 even though they used the same basic system - primary difference between the two being that New Vegas was far more linear, making it near impossible to head any direction but south from the getgo forcing you to get entrenched into the linear core storyline up to level 15-20 before you can even really think about just doing random poking around all over the map.

And a final point, perhaps its me getting long of tooth compared to many gamers as I near my 40th year here - but I don't get the incessant need that people have for hyperbolic over the top nonsense in an attempt to "Glenn Beck"-ify even the most trivial conversation - if you really care about something and want it to improve, be realistic, concise and clear while remaining free of exaggeration - otherwise you're only really making yourself look foolish and more than likely will have your input ignored by those that could impart the changes you're petitioning for.

DA origins - 9.5

DA2 - 7
I HATE THE REPETITION visiting the same places with different names. kinda feels bioware just wanted to make quick bucks and did not take their time to give variety, the story is not as immersive as dragon age origins I got bored in the 3rd hour and now just playing for the sake of it. sure nicer graphics and better movement but without good storytelling and a better more interacted group its blaah. if i wanted a city to walk in and kill id play assassins creed. somewhat disappointed but anyway
