Somehow I get the feeling the entire thing would've worked better as a movie.

Right now, it's a solid 8 in my book. At first the new combat animations worried me a little but now I got used to them. Now I just need to get used to some waves of enemies appearing out of nowhere.

Probably enjoyable for people who also like games like Bajonetta or Devil May Cry, but a bad RPG.
Call of Duty respawns in every fight are the death strike.

Yep, because I pause and micromanage my fights in Bayonetta and DMC all the time...

Asfor respawns I do agree in a couple areas they're done poorly - but for the spiders, undead and demons it's already been established as normal from DA:O. (The ones done poorly are the ones where other types - mercs and darkspawn for example add to the fight with obvious respawn rather than coming in from outside of the range of view)

I'd give it a solid 9 right now - and you'd be hard pressed to find someone that games more - considering we're a husband and wife that are both disabled, and with the male half of the equation being physically unable to leave the house most of the time there are very few games we haven't played heavily. (the wonders of neurologic problems not even being able to carry a 120 lb frame most days makes it difficult to be involved outside of the house - even getting the mail proves challenging sometimes)

I do have a big bug in my rear over the lack of truly gearing companions though - I could care less if their appearance would change with the gear, I just like the variety that it allows in secondary character building. But that's why its not a 10, that's easily worth knocking of a full point for to me.

While I do agree that the game likely would be better with a less restrictive world - it's not like the series was established as an open-world free-roaming game in the first - much  like the similarly "closed world-ed" Fallout 1 and 2.

Bioware's narrative strength (and seriously, anyone who claims this doesn't have good narrative hasn't beaten the game clearly....) requires linearity toa point - sandbox games have to be designed like a novella where you can read any story at any point and enjoy each piece on its own, but that leads to a weaker overall narrative.

Look at how much stronger the narrative flow in Fallout: New Vegas was compared to Fallout 3 even though they used the same basic system - primary difference between the two being that New Vegas was far more linear, making it near impossible to head any direction but south from the getgo forcing you to get entrenched into the linear core storyline up to level 15-20 before you can even really think about just doing random  poking around all over the map.

And a final point, perhaps its me getting long of tooth compared to many gamers as I near my 40th year
here - but I don't get the incessant need that people have for hyperbolic over the top nonsense in an attempt to "Glenn Beck"-ify even the most trivial conversation - if you really care about something and want it to improve, be realistic, concise and clear while remaining freeof exaggeration - otherwise you're only really making yourself look
foolish and more than likely will have your input ignored by those that could impart the changes you're petitioning for.

Personally, my score would be a bit lower. I'm kind of stuck around a 7.5 right now. The repitition of areas being a major negative for me, I can't in good conscious give it the 8 I want to but as for the content of your post?

On my second day of playing DA2 and I'm already starting to get board. I think BioWare are much better than this. As I've stated in another thread, it seems clear to me that EA wanted BioWare to release a big game to recoup some money before Star Wars: TOR releases due to the cost of that project, hence this rushed game. I wondered how DA:O took five years to make and this only took 15 months. Well, now I know.

6/10.

I think this is the problem here. As a stand alone game I never would have played it. I only played it because its called "Dragon Age" 2 and as a part of the dragon age franchise it failed to impress me at all. As a game in its own right, given it had a different name or was marketed as a spinoff title in a different genre I may have been able to rate it as high as a 6 but as something marketed as an actual sequal to DA:O I give it a firm 2.

My friend gave it a 6.5 on another forum. After playing it for a while at my friends place (for a few hours) that i think the game is worth no more then 6.0

From the things i played i would say the following:

Good:
*Some of the party talk is quiet fun when you walk around
*Warriors / rogues have more use right now
*Some what better graphics then DAO
*I did find a few funny quests here and there.

Bad:
*Lacked a overall focus
*The time jump made no sense what so ever (the one i did) and it detached me from the little story there was.
*Alot of filler combat with useless mobs that jumped out from no where. While i was playing i was asking myself "Is this a JRPG in a 3d world instead of random units spawning as you walk on the map?"
*Less abilities, unique builds.
*The party members could use alot of work from what i got to see of them
*Copy paste copy paste... I dont know how many times i entered the same building / cave but yeah...
*For it being in a city where there are tons of refuges and stuff... There sure are very few people. Hell there are more "filler enemies" then actual people.
*Tactical camera is gone
*The art direction is horrible... The Darkspawn are now your generic undead creatures. And it look strange... hell even the blood turned into jelly.

Then i heard from my friend that the game just end with nothing he explained it like this: Think of a line with how the game progress.

--Start----------------------Middle-------------------End--

On that line in his opinion the game feel like it end at the 30-40% mark.
He might have been okey with this... If it was a DLC or a expanion for 20-30$ But he feel cheated after paying 60$ for DA2.

6,5. Its an okay action rpg, nothing more. People giving the game a score of 8 or above haven't finished the game im my opinion. If you play through all quests and deny that the blatant reuse of the very few dungeons (6-7 dungeons reused 5-15 times) isnt a major, major flaw in itself that should give the game a score of max 7, you are ignorant.

The story is shallow. Not only because it has no main goal or direction, just a bunch of small quests that somewhat tie together. But because it uses every plot device so much that the DA universe starts to feel like a cliché. They "spam" blood magic, abominations at you... its everywere. Every character is too much of an archetype, just so they can drive the plot in some direction... and that is without really getting anywere with the story. While playing through the game I was sitting there and wondering what I was doing...it felt like I had no goal, and that the story only really kicked off at the very end felt so dissapointing. The game ends like it should have started. You play through a damn prolog and nothing else.

When it comes to the combat there are quite a few positive aspects to the game. Some of the boss fights are wonderful at hard/nightmare, and you have to use some more advanced tactics to beat them. But generally the visual style of the combat and that you always fight hordes of enemies ruin the feel of the DA universe for me. Suddenly we have animéstyle fighting and nearly all enemies feel generic since you fight them in large groups in the same way all through the game. Personally I feel they tried to create a hybrid between a god of war game and an rpg and failed at both.

Visually the game is also worse than alot of modern rpg's especially DA:O. Not because of the technical side of it, but because of the visual scope. You never get to "see" the landscape, you just run around between some walls the whole game and you don't even get a feel of what this city actually looks like. Very uninspired work in my opinion.

Good, sometimes very good game with a number of weak points/bad gamedesign decisions.

Feels like a step backwards to me. Also, too many similarities to another popular Bioware game.

As a hack 'n slash: 8

As a tactical rpg: 4

I'll include a few little comments I've repeated elsewhere:
The writing by itself is good. It doesn't come together as coherently as I know they're capable of and it's not as compelling as other products by bioware.
I don't like hack and slash, but it's a well made one.
Wave mechanic is terrible and removes all tactical play from the game. This alone makes the game for me unbearable as I can't stand combat. The only fun I'm having right now is from playing the quests. I could just read a book, but I threw down 60 bucks for this so I'm determined to stick it out until the bitter end.

This is Bioware's worst game I can remember. Which is still better than most as long as I can pretend to myself that it has nothing to do with DAO. I admit my emotion is keeping me from giving it an 8.0

I will give it an 8 now too. The changes took some getting used to and I am still not very happy with the animation speed, but its workable. Its not Origins which I scored a solid 11 out of 10, but as its own game by itself its not bad. I am having fun with it and I can already envision what I want to do on my 2nd playthrough which is an encouraging sign.

After DAO people expected, oddly enough, DA2 to be a full on RPG. Is it April 1st ?
