ME2 benefited from it's gameplay changes and still was a worthy successor, but not DA2. They tried to completely overhaul the game and left out all the good things that made Origins a great game.

My 2 complaints:
1) the magically appearing reinforcements that happen in most fights, it's an unnecessary annoyance
2) not being able to change the appearance of companions, not having to manage all of their equipment is nice, but it'd be cool to have more options in their appearance

Scores like that prove that there isn't even a tiny shred of objectivity behind them.

And before someone starts about what is RPG check previous BW titles (minus ME series, although they were good).Even Jade Empire had more RPG in it then this.
And when you "press the button" actually nothing "awesome" ever happens....No chance that i will even consider buying DA 3 or whatever they gonna call it...

Forgetable, babies first rpg with terrible button mashing combat on the consoles and utterly terrible artstyle. To many problems to really list.
I gave DAO a 9. Im an oldschool CRPG player and thats what I want and expect from a franchise that the developers openly said was a revival of the CRPG genre. I not only feel disappointed, but betrayed.

Pros:
- It's a BioWare game which pretty much means great story, graphics and gameplay.
Cons:
- Recycled area sets. In Dragon Age: Origins we had so many unique areas that you could tell the level designers spent hours upon hours designing. In this we have the city, beach and Dwarven tunnels with many dungeons being cut and paste copies of the previous with the cheap tactic of the designers sealing off areas with impassable doors to make me feel like it was different. No offense to Asian countries intended, but many of these dungeons felt like they were copy paste designs that I would see from a Singaporean or Chinese based company instead of a creative Canadian company.

I gave Dragon Age: Origins a (9.5)
Edit: Both ratings are for the PC version.

Compared to its prequel?
5
its not a bad game, but it reaks of a rush job, which a casual gamer wouldnt notice, but many of us here would. The recycled maps is pretty much the main issue. It seriously retracts from any enjoyment of the game beyond half way through. Comparing it to DAO, alot of things where removed, simply wernt done as well, lacked any sort of depth etc.
fully agree.
maybe 7.5 in its own right, but coming from Bioware, i only expect 10 or minimum 9. that's why i paid for a SE. compared with the Origins, the depth, the downright cutting of content, unnecessary changes, are all working against DA2. story also feels disjointed. art is an acquired taste, but darkspawn is downright laughable.
so, yes, 5 is as much as i can give it. and that's compared to 9.5 of the original.

Brilliant design, awesome quests, very nice soundtrack, compagnons that kick asses and a good combat system... but there is not enough ''environments''.

Consolized dumbing down on:
Inventory
Dialogue
Camera
Environments
Characters
Combat system reminds me of Dynasty Warriors hack and slash. Console players even have to button mash through the game!!!!
Incredibly fast combat.
No tactics whatsoever because of unknown number of mobs appearing on top of you.
Normal difficulty is for 0-attention span action players not RPG players.
Nightmare is a step in the right direction but the "mob appearing out of nowhere" mechanic ruins everything.
Less useful items
NO FRIENDLY FIRE {this is a showstopper thing for me and I'm amazed that not many people mention it} except when playing Nightmare which has other problems.
The list is too long to ignore it. This is the first BAD BioWare game. I hate to say it because they are my favorite company and I've bought and played almost all of their games except Jade Empire. I returned my copy of DA2 back for a refund and I double hate it when I say that I'm going to be weary about future BioWare games.
Tricking me once, I'm a betrayed fan
Tricking me twice, I'm an idiot.

I'm a PC gamer and an old school cRPG fan. DA:O counts as one of my top 5 games of all time. I'm 16 hours into DA2 and so far it's a solid game but not remotely as great as DA:O. I've played in spurts of 2 hours at a time, not because I don't have more time to play but rather because I kind of get bored.
I don't think the game is as well written, companions don't have as much depth or story or as much coherence as DA:O. Likewise the chat wheel hamstrings the games writing into simplistic 'yes, no, I'm a smart ass or I have questions' responses.
I don't think it is a bad game and I have had some fun with it. But I am also somewhat disappointed. I don't expect DA2 to sell as well as DA:O did. DA:O is Bioware's best selling game of all time. I kind of hope DA2 doesn't sell half as well, just so Bioware will get the hint and realize why reviews are so mixed and metacritic scores so low. They screwed up and listened to EA over their own experience with this one and hopefully if it isn't as successful as DA:O they will realize their mistake and DA3 will return to the greatness of Origins.
Sold their soul to the EA devil indeed.

Does it make you feel more mature when you dismiss everyone who likes DA2 as a console kiddie or baby?

Feels like a button masher, poor story, forgettable characters, no depth to the world, overly simplified
I won't be buying Dragon Age 3, unless things are changed. I can't believe this series started off as a game "Inspired by Baldur's Gate"
